Russia The First to Use the Pain Ray?
Who cares if Russia ends up being the first country to use a high-tech pain ray for crowd control? The USA still has the most potent pain-inducing weapon ever used on the general population...taxes.

Russia's Defense Ministry is testing a new nonlethal ray gun for use on protesters, which looks like a close facsimile of the American system in development. The difference could be that the Russians are willing to use it.

MPAA / RIAA Ponder Suing Persistent Pirates
As much as I want to rip on the RIAA/MPAA over this, it's pretty hard to considering they will be going after people that have exhausted their first SIX STRIKES!

In the coming months U.S. Internet providers will begin to warn and punish copyright infringers. Since the "six strikes" plan was announced, a lot has been said about the temporary disconnections and throttled connections subscribers might be subjected to. But there is an even scarier outlook for persistent BitTorrent pirates, as the MPAA and RIAA have negotiated the right to demand the details of repeat infringers should they decide to take legal action.

LinkedIn Hit With $5M Lawsuit Over Lost Passwords
Well that didn't take long, now did it?

An Illinois woman is leading the charge against LinkedIn in a $5 million class-action lawsuit that alleges the social network failed to protect its members' data. The suit is a result of the recent security breach where hackers stole thousands of passwords. The passwords ended up on a site accessible to the public.

Apple Wins Anti-Surveillance Patent
Apple's anti-surveillance patent application was granted today. The bonus? It involves cloning (you) as a way of fooling eavesdroppers.

A principal's identity is cloned to form or create a cloned identity. That is, identifiers used to authenticate the principal are provided to the cloning service for purposes of posing as the principal. The cloning service acts as if it is the principal and performs automated processing over a network. The processing reflects transactions or actions over the network According to an embodiment, the network is the Internet and the actions processing reflects automated activities processed within a World-Wide Web (WWW) browser controlled by the cloning service, which masquerades as the principal.

Ecuador Says WikiLeaks Founder Seeking Asylum
At first if you don't succeed, appeal, appeal again, appeal some more, last minute appeal....then hide out in the Ecuadorian Embassy in the UK. Heh, this guy is a never-ending source of entertainment.

WikiLeaks chief Julian Assange has taken refuge in the South American nation's embassy in London and is seeking political asylum. Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said Ecuador is weighing the request. The move comes less than a week after Britain's Supreme Court rejected Assange's bid to reopen his attempts to block extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning after two women accused him of sexual misconduct during a visit to the country in mid-2010. He denies the allegations.
