Man, I have to say, thank goodness for tablet computers, smart phones, Xboxes, and whatever else is distracting the masses from PC hardware. The rise of those other devices is supposed to be siphoning off interest from the personal computer, and on some levels, that must be true. There was a time when, as a guy who wrote for TR, I could make conversation with friends and relations about the latest Pentium or Radeon or whatever. These days, those conversations are all about iPads and such instead.
At the same time, it appears those of us still paying attention to, you know, the most powerful consumer computing platform are living in some sort of a magical future-land where our most persistent gripes have been replaced by difficult choices between multiple amazing options. Seagate to demo solid-state drive with 12Gbps SAS
Little-known fact: Seagate sells solid-state drives. The SSDs are targeted strictly at enterprise customers, but they exist. Seagate now says it's whipped up a version of its Pulsar.2 SSD with 12Gbps SAS connectivity, and it's going to demonstrate the drive at the SCSI Trade Association Technology Showcase tomorrow.
The company doesn't quote specs or performance details, but it claims the drive can operate at a full 12 gigabits per second and is backward-compatible with "all previous generations of SAS speeds." SAS, of course, is short for Serial Attached SCSI ; ...

Micron touts 'first fully functional' DDR4 module
So, I guess we're up to DDR4 now—or at least, we will be very soon. Micron says it has successfully developed, sampled, and received customer feedback on its "first fully functional DDR4 DRAM module"—a 4GB part that includes eight 30-nm, 4Gb chips. Here are the dirty details:
