Thirty-eight Percent of Kids on Facebook Under 13?
For all of the detractors of Facebook, this may explain a lot. A new survey by Minor Monitor reveals that over one third of Facebook users are kids under the age of 13 and four percent are kids under the age of six years old or less. So if you are one of the people who think that Facebook clientele are a little childish sometimes, you may be closer to the truth than you ever expected.
A new survey suggests, in fact, that 38 percent of the kids on Facebook are not alright by Facebook's age rules. For they are aged 12 or younger.

FCC Closes Case on Google Wi-Fi Snooping
I hope this will not put anyone out of a job over at Google, but upon concluding the investigation into Google's data collection practices and invasion of privacy issues, the FCC fined the mega-giant international corporation a whopping $25k for obstruction and impeding an official investigation. The fine will be paid with loose change found in Google's furniture.

Court Rules Software Not Protected By Fed Crime Laws
An Appeals Court has overturned the conviction of former Goldman Sachs engineer Sergey Aleynikov for stealing encrypted source code. The Court's interpretation of the meaning of the laws that convicted Aleynikov could have far reaching consequences within the software industry.
The court concluded that Aleynikov did not steal physical "goods" per se, but rather, software code which was "purely intangible property embodied in a purely intangible format."

Canada's Top Court: No Wiretap Without Warrants
The Supreme Court of Canada gave Parliament 12 months to rewrite a law allowing police warrantless wiretap power in the case of an emergency. The Court struck down the law on Friday, but will remain in effect until the new law is rewritten and enacted.
The decision doesn't pose a risk to public safety while Parliament rewrites the notice provision, said lawyer Joe Wilkinson, counsel to the Criminal Lawyers Association of Ontario, which intervened in the case.

Megaupload User Data Safe for Now
Score one for the Megaupload team. On Friday, a District Court judge ruled in favor of Megaupload to preserve the server data until further negotiations with all interested parties.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation, which represents at least one user whose personal files are stored on the Megaupload servers also requested that the data be preserved, and that an independent third party oversee the negotiations.
