Download.com Wrapping its Downloads in Bloatware
Well this is a bummer. Let's just hope this is a trend that doesn't catch on. Thanks to everyone that sent this one in.

At Download.com, page designs have been repeatedly tweaked over the years to promote its TechTracker updater software, TrialPay offers, and the site's mailing list. Bothersome, perhaps, but certainly not inexcusable. They've got to make money off the site somehow, after all, and banner ads don't always do the job. Now, things have taken a turn for the worse: Cnet has begun wrapping downloads in a proprietary installer. Wrapping installers is a terrible practice.

IBM to Produce Micron's First Commercial 3D Memory Chips
IBM and Micron Technology, Inc. announced today that Micron will begin production of a new memory device built using the first commercial CMOS manufacturing technology to employ through-silicon vias (TSVs). IBM's advanced TSV chip-making process enables Micron's Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC) to achieve speeds 15 times faster than today's technology.

Micron's Hybrid Memory Cube features a stack of individual chips connected by vertical pipelines or "vias," shown above. IBM's new 3-D manufacturing technology, used to connect the 3D micro structure, will be the foundation for commercial production of the new memory cube.

Facebook Flaw Lets You View Someone's Private Photos
Flaws like this one are actually kinda funny. You know, funny in a "how in the hell did they overlook that?" kinda way. I avoid this problem by letting everyone view my photos by default.

Clicking on the option to report the photo to Facebook then brings you to another window that says: "Help us take action by reporting additional photos to include with your report." Clicking on that last option reportedly reveals a page of thumbnail photos from or of that person, some of which could be private.

The Five Stages of Griefing: Death of the Consoles
PC Perspective has just posted an editorial today called "The Five Stages of Griefing: Death of the Consoles." It's funny, no matter how many times we see these "BPC" articles (blood pressure checkers), we all feel the need to jump in and defend our platform.

PCs bear the stigma of being tethered to a desk by a 6-foot cobweb of wires unless it is completely unsuitable for gaming and folds into its own screen. Once you break past the stigma, and the stigma alone, there is no reason why you cannot attach a PC to your TV; how do you think consoles do it?
