Yahoo! CEO gets fired over the phone
The Yahoo! Board of Directors have fired CEO Carol Bartz yesterday, replacing Bartz is current CFO Tim Morse, in an interim position. There was no word on whether Morse was a likely candidate to remain CEO into the future, but the word on the street is that he is the right person for being the CEO because he will easily sign selling of the company. Morse is also the same person who suggested the purchase of MySpace to News Corporation, generating huge loss for the company.
Yahoo!'s newly formed Executive Leadership Council is tasked with establishing a new direction for the company, which has floundered since before Bartz's appointment in 2009. Bartz took over as CEO after co-founder Jerry Yang stepped down following an aborted takeover bid from Microsoft. Yang fell out of favor due to his failure to capitalize on an offer of almost twice the Yahoo!'s market value at the time. Under Bartz, Yahoo! eventually entered into an ad partnership with Microsoft instead. It seems that deal wasn't successful enough to keep the board happy. In recent months, Yahoo! has been linked to a possible purchase of streaming video service Hulu, but apparently the board wasn't satisfied with her accomplishments. Rumors that Yahoo! was looking to replace Bartz, which have consistently been denied, have circulated for months.

AMD starts shipping Bulldozer-based Opterons
AMD's first Bulldozers are now officially rolling out of GlobalFoundries fabs, but don't get too excited as there aren't really the processors you're looking for. What AMD started to ship are the Bulldozer-based Interlagos server processors, the Opteron 6200. Compatible with the current G34 platform, Interlagos chips are made on 32nm process technology and have 8, 12 or 16 cores (depending on model), a quad-channel DDR3 memory controller, up to 16MB of L3 cache and four HyperTransport links. The Interlagos Opterons are shipping to OEM customers and are set to be available in partner system in Q4. As for the desktop-bound Bulldozer CPUs, codename Zambezi (FX Series), they are expected to start shipping later this month and be officially launched in October.
Beside that, AMD released the first dual-core A-Series APU, the A4-3300 clocked at 2.5 GHz and the A4-3400 topping 2.7 GHz. Both new A-Series chips come with an FM1 package and have a DDR3-1600 memory controller, 1MB of L2 cache, built-in Radeon HD 6410D (DirectX 11) graphics with 160 Radeon Cores (the A4-3400's GPU is clocked at 600 MHz, while that of the A4-3300 is set to 443 MHz) and a TDP of 65W. The A4-3400 and A4-3300 have suggested retail prices of $70 and $75, respectively.

ASUS K53BY: Netbook in Notebook
Some time ago, we got acquainted with AMD’s new Brazos platform, or more specifically, its strongest incarnation, ASUS’ motherboard with the E-350 APU (http://www.insidehw.com/Reviews/Motherboards/AMD-Fusion-vs-Intel-Atom-Clash-of-the-Integrations.html). The “E” in the APU’s name revealed that we were dealing with the Zacate APU, containing two Bobcat cores, and the stunning performance we witnessed at the time resulted in an Editor’s Choice award as well. In the meantime, ASUS has been working fervently at launching new notebooks based on the same platform. Although the Brazos platform is theoretically aimed at the netbook market, its nature and performance enabled it to be implemented in desktop and notebook computers as well. ASUS’ K53BY is the latest example thereof.
