Google Offers Free Calls Home To U.S. Military
Google has just announced that it is offering free calls home to all the men and women of the armed forces that are currently stationed abroad.

We understand that it's not always easy or affordable for our troops serving overseas to call friends and family at home, so starting today we're making it completely free for all uniformed military personnel with valid United States Military (.mil) email addresses to call the United States, right from Gmail.

L.A. Noire Developer Enters Bankruptcy
Wow. I knew that Team Bondi was in trouble but I didn't know it was this bad.

Australia administration is similar to the USA's Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It allows failing companies to keep from shutting down while an appointed administrator attempts to regain solvency, reorganising the business, selling off assets, and laying off staff if needs be.

WikiLeaks To Sue Leaker Of Leaked Documents
Wait, did WikiLeaks just say they are going to sue someone for leaking information that was leaked to them? Seriously? I bet the state department, the very same people WikiLeaks leaked information on, is just dying to help them out too.

...and in violation of a signed security agreement with the Guardian's editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger, disclosed top secret decryption passwords to the entire, unredacted, WikiLeaks Cablegate archive. We have already spoken to the state department and commenced pre-litigation action.

Twitter To Show Ads From Companies You're Not Following
Twitter plans on showing you ads from companies you don't follow? Oh the controversy! You mean Twitter has to somehow pay for all the free bandwidth people are sucking up? This is an outrage!

That means that users who aren't following Virgin America on the service might still see an ad for the airline in their "timeline" — if Twitter thinks they have things in common with people who do follow Virgin. This marks the first time that Twitter will show ads to users who didn't take some direct action to trigger them, either by following a specific account or by searching for a term on the service.

Microsoft Collects Phone Location Data Without Permission
This is just another example of Microsoft blatantly copying Apple! Hell, they might as well use Apple's "it's a bug" excuse while they are at it.

"The Windows Mobile operating system is clearly sending information that can lead to accurate location information of the mobile device regardless of whether the user allowed it," Kamkar wrote in an analysis made public yesterday as part of a lawsuit filed against Microsoft. Lawyers for the suit, who are seeking class action status, hired him to perform the testing.

Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 Full Tower Case
If you are in need of a full tower case, the folks at Think Computers have a review of the Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 that might be of interest.

Thermaltake sort of went away from that look with the Element series of cases, the newer Armor cases are more on the lower-end and the Level 10 cases are out of most people's price range. So where is the happy medium for gamers and modders that want a Thermaltake case? I believe they have answered with the Chaser MK-1 Full Tower Case.

Google, Facebook Top U.S. Web Destinations in July
I guess it is no real surprise that Google and Facebook were the top web destinations in July. I just can't get over the fact that people spend more than 5 hours a month on Facebook.

According to the research firm, 172.5 million unique visitors went to Google in July, spending an average of nearly 1.5 hours on the site. The world's top social network, Facebook, had nearly 159 million unique visitors. However, the social network was far and away their favorite place to be, with folks spending an average of over 5 hours on the site during the month.

Apple Blasted For Alleged Pollution by Suppliers
Apple is under fire again, this time from Chinese environmental activists, that say the company is polluting and endangering public safety by discharging heavy metals and other toxins. The bright side is that it is much easier to keep track of employees that glow in the dark.

In a report issued Wednesday, a group of nongovernmental organizations accused the technology giant of violating its own corporate responsibility standards by using suppliers it said its investigations found are violating the law and endangering public health by discharging heavy metals and other toxins. Responding to the report, Apple said Thursday that it was committed to "driving the highest standards of social responsibility" in its supply chain.

Hotfile Ordered To Share User Data With The MPAA
The courts have ordered Hotfile to share its user data with the MPAA. Wait, isn't file sharing what got them in trouble in the first place?

In their ongoing battle with the MPAA, the Florida-based file-hosting service Hotfile has suffered a major loss. A federal court has ordered Hotfile to disclose user data, the identities and revenues of their top affiliates, and financial information on the company itself. District Court Judge Adalberto Jordan argued that the MPAA needs this info to prove that Hotfile is promoting and profiting from copyright infringement.

Anonymous, doing what they do best...making people hate them.
