Phone shipments went up in Q2
Despite the fact that feature phone sales dropped 4% on-year, mobile phone shipments in Q2 still grew by a total of 11.3% compared to Q2 2010, reaching 365.4 million units thanks to strong smartphones sales. 11.3% doesn't sound bad at all, but keep in mind that Q1's growth was of 16.8%. According to the numbers provided by IDC, Nokia's position of #1 phone maker is increasingly shaky as Q2 saw the Finnish company ship 88.5 million units, down from 111.1 million in Q2 2010. These results translate into a 24.2% market share for Nokia (33.8% in Q2 2010) which is reasonably close to the 19.2% held by Samsung. The South Korean mammoth company again took second place, recording shipments of 70.2 million phones.

Way behind Nokia and Samsung, on the third place worldwide, is LG Electronics, who delivered 24.8 million phones (down from 30.6 million in Q2 2010) and secured a 6.8% share. On the fourth spot in Q2 one can find Apple who managed to increase its iPhone sales by 241% on-year to 20.3 million units and thus grabbed a 5.6% share. China's ZTE completes the Top 5 with 16.6 million shipped units and a market share of 4.5%.

Although the first models to appear on the market were in the form of motherboards, we were actually eagerly awaiting for the appearance of netbooks based on this technology. ASUS’ K-series models have already shown that the E-350 chipset can very well cope with large displays, so it shouldn’t come across as too strange that so many manufacturers have opted to make available 15” models based on the Brazos APU. As much as all of this sounds attractive, however, small and powerful machines with a display diagonal of up to 13” are what AMD was focused on during development - and these models are what we’re making a roundup of today.
