World of Warcraft Starter Edition Announced
With a game as popular as World of Warcraft, this bit of news may be surprising to some but not to others. Typically, if you wanted to give the game a go, you would download a trial that lasts two weeks or so. Almost every MMORPG has that two week trial, or some variation of it, but what Blizzard is doing with the trial period now is something different. You see, Blizzard has announced the World of Warcraft Starter Edition, where you can play the game for free until you hit level 20. You still need to download the game from Blizzard and get it patched to version 4.2, "Rage of the Firelands," but you don't have to pay a monthly fee until you hit level 20, if you decide the game is something you're interested in. This is a good way to try the game out as you aren't tied to it for two weeks until the past trial period ran out and can game at your leisure. It could also have the side effect of sucking you into the game once you hit level 20 and not releasing you for a long time, so if you value your family, you may want to tell them goodbye before getting the trial downloaded.

AOC to Launch USB Powered Monitor
Feeling guilty about your GTX 590 rig's power consumption? AOC seems to have just the product to help you ease your conscience, a USB powered display monitor. The AOC e2251Fwu monitor also features a native resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and a 5ms response rate, aside from being USB powered. These are decent specifications to be sure, but AOC reports that its display only draws a maximum of 10W, which is amazingly low. Still, if you're wondering how your USB 2.0 port can power up a monitor when in some cases it can't even charge an iPad, AOC has apparently gotten around that hurdle by using two USB cables. No further details were available yet, but let's hope the monitor lives up to its promise when it comes out later this year.

NVIDIA Announces GeForce GTX 580M and 570M GPUs
NVIDIA has gone ahead and released two new mobile GPUs after doing a bit of a tease with them yesterday during its Crysis 2 DX11 demo. The two new GPUs are the GeForce GTX 580M and 570M, and both promise to give you blistering performance in any game. The 580M replaces the 485M while the 570M replaces the 470M, with the 580M promising to be six times faster during tesselation performance than the AMD Radeon HD 6970M. The 570M is about 20% faster than the 470M, while both the 580M and 570M are built on the 40nm process. The 580M packs 384 cores and 2GB of 256-bit GDDR5 RAM, while the 570M has 336 cores and either 1.5 or 3GB of 192-bit GDDR5 RAM. Both support DirectX 11, OpenCL, PhysX, CUDA, 3D Vision, Verde drivers, Optimus technology, SLI, and 3DTV Play, so basically everything you would want in a mobile GPU, these two have.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M will start shipping in the Alienware M17x and M18x, while the 570M will be available in the MSI GT780R.

Tag Heuer's Froyo Smartphone Costs $6,700
It's a safe bet that average smartphone buyers are going to steer clear of Tag Heuer's Link luxury smartphone. For a phone that costs around $6,700, you'd at least expect it to have better specifications than these: Android 2.2 OS, 3.5-inch (800 x 480) display, a 5MP autofocus camera, a scant 256MB internal memory, and an 8GB memory card. These would have been cutting edge five years ago. But then again, since this isn't for the rest of us, here's what Tag Heuer buyers will actually be paying for: the bulky phone is studded with gold and diamonds, uses stainless steel, and decked out in calfskin leather, as well as alligator and lizard skin. The touch screen uses Gorilla Glass, which is said to be capable of withstanding significant damage. The Swiss watchmaker also markets the phone as being airtight, watertight and shock resistant. But you're not really going to drop a phone that costs more than your i7 gaming rig now, are you?
