Cellcrypt releases encrypted voice call app for iPhone
Cellcrypt released a version of its voice encryption software for Apple's iPhone on Tuesday, adding to its portfolio of software to prevent eavesdropping on calls. The product, called Cellcrypt Mobile for iPhone, works with iOS4 on Apple's iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. It is one of two voice encryption applications listed in the App Store, although there are other voice encryption applications for the iPhone platform from vendors such as Goldlock and SecurStar.

PCI building thinner interconnect for handheld devices
The PCI-Express standards-setting organization is creating a thin interconnect that would link mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets to external peripherals, the organization's chief said on Monday. The cable interconnect will enable data transfers between host devices and external devices at speeds of up to 8G bps (bits per second), said Al Yanes, president and chairman of the PCI-SIG (PCI-Special Interest Group). The organization hopes handheld devices equipped with PCI-Express ports will reach the market by 2013.

Rootkit infection requires Windows reinstall, says Microsoft
Microsoft is telling Windows users that they'll have to reinstall the operating system if they get infected with a new rootkit that hides in the machine's boot sector. A new variant of a Trojan Microsoft calls "Popureb" digs so deeply into the system that the only way to eradicate it is to return Windows to its out-of-the-box configuration, Chun Feng, an engineer with the Microsoft Malware Protection Center, said last week on the group's blog.
