U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to make a statement momentarily. It's being reported on CNN and in the New York Times that Osama bid Laden is dead.
UPDATE: The US is in possession of Bin Laden's body, the reports say. It was unclear where bin Laden was killed and how the U.S. obtained his body, but CNN was reporting that he was killed outside of Islamabad. US officials have long believed bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world, was hiding a mountainous region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. President Barack Obama is due to make a statement shortly."
UPDATE 2: Obama had tasked the CIA with the killing or capture of Osama bin laden. In August 2010 a lead surfaced, the US followed him to Pakistan and late in April sent Special Forces to attack a compound in Abadabad Pakistan. In the words of Barak Obama; "after a firefight, they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body."
