[H] Weekend Project
By now most of you know that every year, one of our side projects is putting together bad ass computers and donating them to local schools to help get kids interested in computers. It is common knowledge that most computer science labs consist of a few antiquated old beige box PCs (at best) and a whole bunch of iMacs. We figure that a few tricked out, overclocked, water cooled, SLI - CrossFireX computers with all the bells and whistles will grab the attention of the kids and, with any luck, make a lasting impression. Think back to the first time you saw a kick ass water cooled, custom computer....you knew you had to have one the minute you saw it and you were hooked from then on. Anyhow, here is the pile of stuff we've amassed so far with help from great companies like MSI, Intel, AMD, Corsair, Antec and Dave from OCC. I'll get cracking on the builds this weekend and I plan on doing a write up on the whole process (assembly, finished PCs, donation ceremony, etc) so keep your eyes peeled for that too. So, what are you doing this weekend? Comments

Mass BlackBerry Confusion in Looming Government Shutdown
As if the looming government shutdown wasn't bad enough by itself, now you have to confuse government officials with stuff like this. "For the first time, government agencies are trying to figure out how the Antideficiency Act applies to computers and BlackBerry devices," said John Cooney, partner at Venable LLP and former deputy general counsel at the Office of Management and Budget. "It's a difficult problem to solve." Comments

RIAA Lobbyist Turned Judge Backpedals On BitTorrent Cases
How hard is it to get a judge that doesn't have ties to the music/movie industry? Seriously? Wasn't this a problem in the TPB case a while back? In the ongoing mass-BitTorrent lawsuits, last month U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell laid down a landmark verdict in favor of copyright holders. The verdict was widely publicized, but put in doubt after it was uncovered that the Judge was a former RIAA lobbyist. This critique appears to have had an effect. In two new orders in the same cases, Howell has now backpedaled on her earlier stance. Comments

Most Fragmented Hard Drive EVER!
Although this picture was sent to us by Dennis G., a long time reader and friend of the [H], I want to make it perfectly clear this is NOT his computer. I can honestly say that I have never seen a drive this fragmented...ever. Comments

Facebook and Twitter Are More Active On Friday
A group of researchers from the U of ToOb (University of the Totally Obvious) found that people are more active on Facebook and Twitter on Friday. The study was funded by nobody because, let's face it, it's not like everyone didn't know this already. Analyzing more than 200 of its clients' Facebook pages over a 14-day period, Buddy Media found that engagement on Thursdays and Fridays was 18% higher than the rest of the week, and that engagement was actually even better on Thursday than on Friday. Meanwhile, Twitter Chief Revenue Officer Adam Bain آ— speaking at the Ad Age Digital conference earlier this week آ— said that Twitter users are more engaged with tweets on Fridays. Comments

iPhone 4 Secretly Takes Your Photo / Soul
Is the iPhone 4 secretly taking pictures of you? Have any of you witnessed this? Follow the link for the video. The issue pops up when they use FaceTime. Instead of seeing themselves back in the camera, they see a picture of themselves the phone randomly took of them earlier in the day. But don't worry that your phone might be tattling on you for double-dipping that chip, when the error happens, the other user just sees a black screen. Comments
