Nvidia bringing Optimus to Sandy Bridge desktops, launch :: Posted by THRASHER2
LucidLogix Virtu software hasn't even become available to consumers (it will do so next month) and it can already start worrying about competition as Nvidia is planning to make its own graphics switching technology (Optimus) available on desktops.
The desktop version of Optimus is set to be introduced at Computex and will work on basically any H67, H67 and Z68 motherboard that includes at least one display output (Gigabyte has Z68 boards without display outputs and Optimus won't work on those).
Nvidia's technology doesn't require any real tweak in terms of hardware and won't cost motherboard makers a thing (unlike Virtu which has a licensing fee) but it will be limited to systems equipped with Nvidia cards (no surprise here right?).
As it does in laptops/netbooks, Optimus will allow LGA1155 desktops to switch between CPU-integrated graphics and the discrete graphics card, depending on the task running - for example, the Intel HD graphics will be used when doing light work (browsing, writing documents) or editing videos (Quick Sync is the key here), while the GeForce/Quadro card will kick in when gaming and running benchmarks. The end result should be a lower power draw and even a bit more peace and quiet.

Razer announces its Hydra controller :: Posted by THRASHER2
Motion sensing with Sixense
Altough the partnership between Razer and Sixense was announced back in January at CES, we now see a first concrete product as a result of that partnership, the Razer Hydra. The motion sensing controller that should bring gaming-grade motion sensing controller for a whole new dimension of gameplay and immersion for the PC platform, at least according to Razer.
The Razer Hydra uses magnetic motion sensing and come bundled with a compact base station that can precisely track the exact location and orientation of controllers. Razer is promising ultra-low latency in order to get the most fluid and precise game experience ever. The controller itself features an analog stick, four Hyperresponse buttons and rapid-fire trigger. In case you've been wondering, the controller is not wireless, probably in order to keep the latency as low as possible.
The Hydra will be ready and selling in June and will be currently only available as a bundle with two controllers, a base station and a copy of Valve's Portal 2 game, all for €140/US $140. Razer promises that Hydra will be optimized with over 125 PC titles one it hits the retail shelves.
In case you are interested, Joystiq site did a nice hands-on with the device and you can check out some of the game previews here.

Intel's Z68 comes on May 11th :: Posted by THRASHER2
The "new LGA 1155 chipset"
Although it has already been rumoured for a May launch, we managed to confirm that Intel's Z68 LGA 1155 chipset with Sandy Bridge support will launch on May 11.
As noted, the Intel Z68 Express chipset supports Intel's Sandy Bridge processors and will be marketed as a "performance overclocking chipset" that has support for CPU, memory, as well as processor graphics overclocking support. The Z68 can easily be considered as the tweaked P67 as it brings display outputs and RST SSD caching, while the rest of the specs are pretty much on par with the P67.
Other thing that also seperates the Z68 from the P67 is LucidLogix's Virtu graphics switching software that will be supported by some, if not all, MB manufacturers, but honestly don't get you hopes up as Lucid's solutions had history of falling short when it comes to support, and there were some rumors that this one is no exception either, but we'll hold on with info until we manage to get more details regarding it in the next few days.
The current schedule puts the launch of the Z68 on May 11th which makes more sense than the previously rumoured May 8th (Sunday) launch date. The good thing about Z68 is that it price shouldn't be that much higher when compared to the P67.
More info regarding the Z68 should appear as we draw closer to the launch day.

End of the line for DS Lite :: Posted by THRASHER2
First DS Lite is end-of-life after 5-year run
With Nintendo having the 3DS in full distribution, it is time to thin the handheld herd some, as there are just currently too many models that are still in distribution. The latest casualty is the original DS Lite, which after a five-year run has been discontinued and retailers will no longer being getting any additional product, from what we are told.
While Nintendo is not yet confirming that they have made the initial DS Lite end-of-life, it stands to reason that this is the case; considering that they already have the DSi and DSi XL, is there really any need for the old DS Lite? We don’t think so, and we expect it to quietly fade away, but as inventory of the units dwindle there might be some deals to have on a new DS Lite, should you have to have one.
Speaking with some of our sources in the development community, at least for the rest of this year you can expect the DS platform to continue to receive significant software support, with many releases planned for the rest of the year. Next year, however, looks a bit murkier as developers are faced with the decision to continue with DS titles, do 3DS titles, or a combination of the two.
We will have to see how things shake out, but we expect things to be about the same, with more software headed to the 3DS next year as the platform sales continue to grow.

Intel plans Core i3 2105 for May 22 :: Posted by THRASHER2
3.1GHz for $134
Intel is still not done with introduction of its desktop Sandy bridge parts and the company plans to launch yet another Core i3 CPU.
The new one will be called Core i3 2015 and comes with 3.1GHz core clock and no Turbo for the CPU. It is still a dual core with two threads and it has 3MB shader cache.
Its not really a spectacular CPU but so had a pretty good laugh when we found it listed for saucy €1289.45 for boxed version and €1194.14 for tray one, both listed here.
Intel already sells Core i3 2100 with same specs but slower Intel HD Graphics 2000. The new one has Intel HD graphics 3000 with 8509MHz graphics clock that can overclock to 1100MHz if necessary.
The launch date is May 22nd and it will sell for $134.

GTX 560 reportedly coming on May 17 :: Posted by THRASHER2
Spec remains unclear
According to EXPreview, Nvidia is planning to introduce the mainstream GTX 560 sans Titanium moniker on May 17.
However, the specs are still not clear, but rumour has it that it will be based on the GF114 core with 336 CUDA cores, 56 texture units and 32 ROPs. The card should end up clocked upwards of 800MHz and it should 1GB of GDDR5 memory. Of course, these figures should be taken with a grain of salt.
There is still no word on price, either. The plain GTX 560 will clearly end up somewhat cheaper than the Titanium version, which currently retails between €180 and €200 in most EU markets. It sounds like a proper replacement for the ageing GTX 460 in this particular market segment and it have to face off against AMD’s HD 6870, which sells for about €150.
