Firefox 4 tops 100 million downloads
Launched on March 22nd, Mozilla's Firefox 4 has become a superstar, topping 100 million downloads yesterday. The numbers come via Mozilla's Glow stats ticker page, which has been updating the downloads since launch. StatCounter (via Crunch), says Firefox 4 already has 8 percent of the worldwide browser market share, behind more established IE8 at 30 percent, Firefox 3.6 at 24.43 percent and Chrome 10 at 15.35 percent.

Oracle gives OpenOffice back to open-source community
Oracle announced that it will discontinue commercial development of the OpenOffice suite, handing it back to the open-source community for future development. The news has been anticipated for some time, ever since The Document Foundation was set up to try and prevent a single company dominating the development of OpenOffice, a response to Oracle's purchase of Sun Microsystems, which previously owned the open-source project. The news coincides with the announcement that rival office package, LibreOffice, which branched off from OpenOffice six months ago, has announced the launch of a beta version 3.4.

New leak reveals Lenovo Tegra 2 ThinkPad tablet
The latest scoop on Lenovo's tablet plans suggests that in July the PC maker will release its own Tegra 2 tablet device with Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. Known as the ThinkPad Tablet, the hardware would start at $499 and target both regular consumers and business users.

Microsoft sold over 350 million Windows 7 licenses
It seems that the last 18 months were great for Microsoft's Windows 7 as the operating system has managed to sell over 350 million licenses and grab just over 30% of the global OS market, placing second to Windows XP (~ 47% market share, according to StatCounter). It may not have the OS crown yet but Windows 7 has surpassed Windows XP in the US, and it can only go further as more consumers and businesses adopt it.

Apple finalizing its cloud-based music service
According to the latest online report, Apple's extensively-rumored cloud-based music service is ready, not for launch but in terms of concept, structure and inner workings. All that's required now is a bunch of licensing deals to please major record labels.

MSI unveils atractive CX640MX notebook
Having recently introduced the CX640, MSI is now preparing a tweaked version of the laptop which is called CX640MX and comes bearing a heap of goodies, like the HiFre Antenna signal enhancement technology, an ambient light sensor which helps saving the batter life, and SRS audio.

Next Nintendo console to be named Stream
Analysts have suspected for quite some time that Nintendo will try to cater to the somewhat more serious gaming crowd with the new console. While the Wii was successfully aimed at casual gamers, its successor, reportedly named Stream, could also appeal to the core gaming community. It will be styled along the lines of Nintendo’s legendary SNES from the early nineties. However, the hardware front is anything but retro. The console should feature an interesting novelty in the form of controllers with built in touchscreens. Here is the interesting bit, Nintendo plans to use so-called Screen Stream technology to stream games directly onto the screens, which opens up some very interesting options, at least if you have four controllers and as many people willing to join in on the fun.

Microsoft rises up salaries
It seems that software giant Microsoft is starting to rise its employee's salaries in a bid to stop a huge brain drain. Apparently, competition from younger businesses like Google and Facebook has prompted the firm to significantly improve salary deals for many junior and mid-level workers. Some this included shifting some of their compensation from shares to wages.
