How to Unmask the Internet's Vilest Characters
I'm not really sure why this article is titled "How to unmask the internet's vilest characters," no one is actually unmasked and the only lesson I learned is allowing someone to take naked pictures of you is a bad idea.

And that leaves people like Lani in a lousy situation. Their only option for using the law to punish trolls is to sue for defamation or invasion of privacy, as Lani has done. The problem is that while she could win a court order unmasking the troll's identity (and ultimately win damages), it's hard to bring such a suit without making her own humiliation complete.

Apple: We Have The Right To Track You
It's funny how Apple believes it has the right to track you but every time you or I do it they call it "stalking."

Apple "must have access to the comprehensive location-based information" to help it better serve customers. While failing to confirm whether devices sent the info to the company, the lawyer said it was Apple's right to do so, contending that users agree share the info in the End User Agreement.

Few businesses buy Windows out of great love for Microsoft so much as the belief that Redmond is a rock of relative stability in an industry in which companies have in the past come and gone, leaving applications unsupported

Nintendo Axes Game Boy Advance Support
With so many other Nintendo handhelds on the market, it had to happen eventually. We learned today that Nintendo is finally discontinuing the DS Lite, effectively ending GBA support for their handheld consoles. According to a leaked GameStop memo, "Nintendo DS Lite systems have been discontinued and stores will no longer be replenished on this product." As the last system to offer Game Boy Advance backwards compatibility, we're sad to see it go. But the GBA's library of classic remakes and wonderful original titles will live on in the yard sales and bargain bins of the world.

The PlayStation Network remains down after four days of interrupted service. We reported the original outage earlier this week with some attributing the attack to the hactivist group Anonymous. The cause of the outage has been blamed on "an external intrusion" with no elaboration.

Sony said it is "working around the clock to bring them both back online," but didn't say when they might return. Phone calls to the company's Tokyo headquarters went unanswered on Sunday. "We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project," the statement said.

Lesson of the Day: Encrypt Your Wi-Fi
A New York man found out firsthand how dangerous it can be to ignore all of the warnings and leave your wireless router open to the world. His home was invaded in the middle of the night by Federal agents, thrown down a flight of stairs and accused of being a pedophile and pornographer. It's a sure bet that his connection is secured now. Thanks and a tip of the hat to The Weazmeister for the linkage.

Whether you're guilty or not, "you look like the suspect," said Orin Kerr, a professor at George Washington University Law School, who said that's just one of many reasons to secure home routers.

Microsoft Issues 3rd Party Bug Advisories
In a surprising move on Microsoft's part, the company has made public a set of guidelines for its vulnerability disclosure policy, which governs 3rd party bug warnings. Microsoft will begin issuing warnings on bugs and exploits of other vendors only after the company has been made aware of the problem and have time to react to correct the flaw.

Today's advisories were part of a larger announcement by Microsoft that made public details of its bug policy, which it dubbed "coordinated vulnerability disclosure," or CVD, almost nine months ago.
