10 Areas of Your Home Where Cable Jacks Should Be Installed

It used to be that a new home would include two or three cable jacks at the most. There would be one for each television they might have in the home. Now that many homes also receive their internet service through their cable company, that has changed. Now you will want to have a cable jack in every area of your home where you might want a computer or television connected.

Bedrooms – A minimum of one per bedroom, depending on the size of the bedroom. If it is possible that the room could be rearranged in several different ways, then you may want to install a cable jack in each potential location for the television and/or computer in each bedroom.
Living room – Again, you will want to take in every possible location for the television when choosing where to install your cable jacks in this room. You may want to at least put one in each opposite corner.
Den – A den can be used in a variety of ways. It may contain a television and a computer. Be sure and add at least two locations to this room.
Kitchen – Many people are now installing small televisions in their kitchen. If there is even the remotest possibility of that, having a cable outlet available will make it easier.
Garage – This is another place that televisions are showing up on a more frequent basis. If the garage is unfinished, it can be pretty easy to install a cable jack after the rest of the house has been finished.
Family room – Generally this is the spot where most people have their main television, so you definitely want at least one, but probably two cable jacks in this room. It may also be the location for the family computer.
Home office – You probably won’t need a cable jack for a television in a home office, but you may need one for your computer. It would be best to have one installed in the room in case it is needed, either now or in the future.
Laundry room – If this room barely fits the washer and dryer in it , then you probably aren’t going to be spending much time there. However, if you have a large laundry room where you will be folding and ironing clothes, you may want to have a television in the room. Always better to add the cable jack in the beginning than to try and add it after the fact.
Exercise room – This is a room you definitely want to have a cable jack or two installed. Just like at the ‘Y’, you’ll want to have a television to watch while you’re on the treadmill or elliptical trainer.
Porch- This is another area that people are frequently adding a television to. Make sure and include some cable jacks in this area as well.
