Hardware Roundup: NVIDIA GTX 590 Edition
As everyone expected, NVIDIA released its GTX 590 card today as seen in the video published this morning. It's a dual-GPU unit using two GF110 graphics processors, the same as found on the GTX 580 card. Clocks have been lowered from what's on the GTX 580, though, in an effort to keep the thermal characteristics within acceptable levels. With an MSRP of $699, the GTX 590 lands squarely in the small court as AMD's Radeon HD 6990. Now it's up to you to check out the reviews to see how the GTX 590 stacks up.

Samsung Begins Industry's First Production of 30nm 4Gb Mobile Memory Chips
Samsung has begun mass production of its 4Gb (gigabit) low power double-data-rate 2 (LPDDR2) mobile memory chips, an industry first. The new 4Gb DRAM chips are produced using 30nm architecture, giving mobile device manufacturers the ability to design smaller, more compact devices with extended battery life.
Wanhoon Hong, executive vice president of memory sales and marketing at Samsung Electronics went on to say that the "mass production of 4Gb LPDDR2 is a tremendous advancement for the mobile industry, one that will enable our OEM customers to move quickly in launching better differentiated high-performance mobile devices into the market. Samsung will continue to take the initiative in accelerating growth of the market by providing high-performance, high-density green memory products as often and as early as possible."
The 4Gb LPDDR2 DRAM was developed by Samsung late last year and mass production started earlier this month. The LPDDR2 memory offers data rates of 1066Mb/s along with 25% less power consumption. Samsung will use the new chip in 1GB (8Gb) and 2GB (16Gb) bundles in the coming months.

Pica-Pic Revives Retro Gaming Handhelds on the Internet
Remember those gaming handhelds of yesteryear? The ones where it was simply one game to the handheld, whether it was a movie tie-in game or even a sports title? Those things haven't existed in years, since being replaced by Gameboys, DSs, and PSPs, but one company is set on reviving those handhelds albeit in a different way. You see, a website by the name of Pica-Pic has taken all those retro handhelds and made a portal for them to be played entirely on the Internet. Navigate your way to the website, pick a handheld, and play it entirely in your browser using your keyboard. It is simplified gaming at its best and one that should bring back plenty of memories to those of a certain age. I can see plenty of time being wasted there, and perhaps if the website is popular enough, we may even see it appear on our phones.

Showtime May Pull Current Shows Off Netflix
Netflix has quite a bit of content for you to stream to your computer or TV and remains a very popular choice. Recently, Netflix has acquired the rights to air an original show, House of Cards, of its own, something it has never done before since it relies on content from other stations. Well, it seems Showtime doesn't like that idea and is considering pulling its still-running shows off of Netflix, shows like Dexter and Californication. Showtime would keep older shows like The Tudors and Sleeper Cell on Netflix since those don't have any new episodes being aired, but the current lineup of shows would not be so fortunate. Showtime said it had negotiated with Netflix and that the shows currently being aired would no longer be accessible from Netflix but rather Showtime's own website. Netflix, however, says no such deal has been put in place and that it has a good relationship with CBS, which owns Showtime. So, which side is correct? Well, we really don't know just yet and it is possible that Showtime is just posturing since Netflix could be viewed as competition now. Depending on what Showtime and Netflix negotiate, Dexter and Californication may no longer appear after this season but time will tell.

Blackberry Playbook Available April 19
The Blackberry Playbook is the tablet offering from Research in Motion. The device has now been priced to start at $499 with a launch date of April 19. There will be offerings featuring both Wi-Fi and 4G networking. However, not much is known about the 4G model regarding price or network provider. The Wi-Fi models are listed for sale on AT&T and Verizon, so it would seem logical that the 4G models would also run on those networks. The base Wi-Fi model will feature 16GB of storage, while 32GB and 64GB versions will be available for $599 and $699, respectively. All versions will feature a 7 inch screen, and RIM hopes to compete with the iPad 2. However, it will likely be tough for RIM to dethrone the iPad with its first offering, especially with a brand new OS.

Firefox 4 Downloaded 7 Million Times
The newest version of the Firefox browser from Mozilla was released officially yesterday. Mozilla claims that it has been downloaded nearly seven million times worldwide. European users are in the lead with three million downloads, with North America and Asia rounding out the top three. Firefox is available across the three major operating systems, and will be available on Android devices soon. This large surge in initial downloads could mean a turnaround for Firefox, which has seen a downturn in market share in recent times.
