
3DMark Vantage Basic Edition now free
Futuremark has offered a treat to gamers and enthusiasts by retiring the (extremely limited) Trial version of 3DMark Vantage and making the Basic Edition, which was previously priced at $6.95, a free download. Beside making this change, Futuremark also rolled out the 1.1.0 version of 3DMark Vantage bringing the following: benchmark now scales the output to best fit the display; GPU physics acceleration is now disabled by default during the CPU tests; systeminfo component updated to version 4.0.

Firefox to eventually drop support for Flash
Mozilla vice president Jay Sullivan said in an interview that web browsers will eventually stop using Flash. He likened Adobe's technology to a plug-in prison and expected that browsers like Firefox would eventually transition over to HTML5 to avoid dependence on one company's app. The executive told Fast Company Flash was burdensome, primarily on mobile devices where the resources to use Flash weren't necessarily worth the effort. He further acknowledged common knowledge that Flash was the most common source of crashes in Firefox and that HTML5 was the longer-term answer to a more stable browser. Firefox 4 has built-in plugin protection that's known mostly as a safeguard to prevent Flash from taking down the entire browser when it crashes. Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome already have sandboxing meant with Flash in mind, even though Google currently has a partnership with Adobe that preinstalls Flash.

Apple sold million of iPads 2
A number of analysts have posted their expected results for the launch weekend of the iPad 2 tablet and the consensus is about 1 million units sold. Last year, it took the iPad 28 days to surpass the 1 million milestone. Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry says he expects nearly a million sales, and that 100 percent of all iPad 2 buyers are the owners of at least one Apple product.

Samsung plans to hire ex-BMW designer
Samsung is about to turn to an automotive expert for help, according to a Korean newspaper. Former BMW designer Chris Bangle would reportedly shape the look of future Samsung cellphones and notebooks. The Joongang rumor didn't say when he would start or if there was a given aim to the designs. Bangle is best known for designing much of BMW's car line for the past decade. While the flame surfaced shapes became iconic for BMW, they were also criticized for using odd shapes that at some times scared off customers.
