Dell Venue Android smartphone priced at US$499, available for purchase

The long-waited Dell Venue, also known as the Thunder in its early development stages, has been given a price tag of US$499. Similar to the Venue Pro, the Venue offers a 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 (Snapdragon) CPU and a large 4.1-inch WVGA AMOLED capactive multi-touch screen, but drops the slide-out keypad and runs on Google's Android 2.2 platform.

Intel X18-M, X25-M and X25-V solid state drives have a new 02M3 firmware

Intel has released a new firmware (02M3) for its X18-M, X25-M and X25-V solid state drives (SSD) on 34nm NAND flash. The new firmware fixes slow-boot issues on SATA 6Gb/s controllers, drive hangs when reading S.M.A.R.T. logs, and improves NCQ capability among others.
No new firmware for the early 50nm SSDs though; the current version is still 8850 for the X25-E and 8820 for the X18-M and X25-M.

TSMC 28nm on schedule for Second Half 2011
vr-zone.com - Owing to the cancellation of 32nm and delays in 28nm, TSMC's 40nm has had an unusually long lifespan. Confined to this restriction, the overall GPU performance hasn't moved forward by much, and for everyone involved, including customers, 28nm can't come sooner. Thankfully TSMC Chairman and CEO, Morris Chang, confirms that there will be no further delays, with tape-outs starting in Q3 2011, and production in Q4 2011. Chang expects 28nm revenue to account for 2% - 3% in Q4 2011, which is an impressive ramp up.

Ivy Bridge to have 20 percent performance advantage over Sandy Bridge

Although Intel's Sandy Bridge processors have only just launched, early details of Intel's next generation platform codenamed Ivy Bridge are already starting to trickle out. According to early roadmap details we've seen, Intel is estimating that Ivy Bridge will offer a 20 percent performance advantage over Sandy Bridge which is slightly more than what Sandy Bridge offered over Intel's first generation of Core i processors.

AMD slashes Phenom II prices

Intel's release of Sandy Bridge CPUs was widely expected to trigger a fall in prices across the AMD CPU product range. While two new CPUs were introduced - Phenom II X4 840 and 975BE - much of the pricing remained unchanged. The expected price cuts are now coming in, nearly one month later - hot on the heels of Intel's recall for 6 series chipsets. The biggest price cuts are dished out to the two top Phenom II X6 CPUs. The 1090T BE is now down to a very reasonable $209, with the flagship 1100T BE falling to $239.
