Scythe launches Gouriki 3 power supplies
Typically when I talk about Scythe we are looking at pics and specs on a new cooling solution for CPUs or video cards. Cooling isn't all Scythe has and the latest product to come for the company is a new line of power supplies. The line is all the same with the only difference being the power rating.

Scythe offers a 500W, 600W, and 700W version of the new Gouriki 3 PSU. They all share the same dual 12V rail as recommended by the Intel ATX 2.3 standard. The dual rails promise more stable power for computers. The PSUs also all measure in at 150 x 155 x 86mm and have a Scythe fan inside for cooling that is 140mm.
That fan has a special circuit that spins at only the speed needed to keep the PSU cool. The maximum speed is 1100rpm for the 500W offering, 1200rpm for the 600W, and 1450rpm for the 700W. The line is rated 80 Plus Bronze and has lots of protection built in for overvolt and more. Pricing and availability are unknown.

Apple to release the iPad 3 this fall?
Apple's iPad 2 has not even been announced yet and there's news floating out there of the iPad 3. Earlier today HP held an event in San Fransisco to until their latest bag of goodies based around the webOS software in which they acquired through the purchase of Palm last year. One of these devices is a tablet, called TouchPad. The TouchPad looks like an iPad, but is better specced. Some are already wondering if it's a possible "iPad-killer".

Daring Fireball's John Gruber has said "Summer feels like a long time away. If my theory is right, they're not only going to be months behind the iPad 2, but if they slip until late summer, they might bump up against the release of the iPad 3. And not only did they announce this with a distant ship date, they did it with no word on pricing."
He does mention iPad 3 in that quote. But, Apple are also touted to release a "big fall surprise". This surprise could be different to the usual iPod/iTunes or MacBook line of products. Right now, if there is an iPad 3 on the horizon, it could mean the iPad 2 is more like the difference from an iPhone 3 to iPhone 3GS, with the iPad 3 being the massive leap (much higher resolution screen, etc).
It's all good news to my ears!

Adobe Flash Player 10.2 promises more effeciency and multimonitor support
Flash Player 10.2 has hit the scene, and those who are expecting just a few bug fixes need to take a second look. Adobe's thrown in a couple extra useful goodies for us.

Not only does the new Flash Player play very nicely with AMD Fusion, but efficiency has been increased with the inclusion of Stage Video which according to Adobe "can effortlessly play beautiful 1080p HD video with just 1-15% CPU usage on a common Mac or Windows computer." Websites have to integrate Stage Video for it to work, but the speedup of delivery that it provides should help those that have stuttering issues.
The other major addition is the ability to watch a Flash video in all its fullscreen glory on a second monitor while working on the first for those with multimonitor setups. This will be a boon for multitaskers, or maybe even those who just want a fun video playing while they work on something else. This will definitely become a new test for your focus.

Guitar Hero getting the axe from Activision
Fake guitarplayers everywhere are mourning today as Activision released that they are discontinuing their popular Guitar Hero franchise after a six year run. Slipping sales are the most likely culprit, with the latest release "Warriors of Rock" setting a new low in sales for the $2 billion gaming franchise.

While it may be the first game people think of when you're naming music-based video games, new competition from the likes of Rock Band and others have severely bitten into Guitar Hero's fanbase. Activision said in a statement that "due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011." Well, it's easy to make millions when you're the only game in town but when the competition comes you've got to step it up and Guitar Hero just wasn't able to do it. Reports are stating that Activision may continue to make new downloadable content available for current Guitar Hero games; although there is no timetable on how often or how long it will continue.

Microsoft has announced that Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 has gone Release to Manufacturing (RTM). SP1 includes minor updates such as RemoteFX and Dynamic Memory. Facebook-pimped phone arrives in the form of INQ's Cloud Q
Facebook has been rumored for a while now to have their own themed phone but, INQ have been getting jiggy with Facebook as of late and have created an Android 2.2-powered that is heavily focused on Facebook integration. The below pictured device, INQ Cloud Touch and also another device named Cloud Q - which includes a QWERTY keypad.

Both devices feature triband HSPA, 3.5-inch capactive touchscreen display, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, Exchange support, insane-looking Facebook integration and Spotify for your music loving needs. INQ's devices are the first mobiles to have Facebook Social Graph API, which lets you see your most important Facebook content on your homescreen.
Another feature is the keyboard technology which is based on SwiftKey, which predicts not only what word you're typing but what words you may type based on some AI-super hacks (I use it on my HTC Desire and absolutely could not live without SwiftKey). The Cloud Touch are set to debut in April at Carphoen Warehouse and BestBuy in the UK, with the Cloud Q looking to set down in Q3.

Revision Updates made for our three SBG rigs

In keeping with the times, we've just made some specification updates to all three systems listed in our System Builders Guide and wanted to give a heads up to those of you looking to build up a new rig in the near future and wanting some help in terms of component choice.
Looking at the cheapest of the three systems in our SBG, the Sub-lieutenant which caters to those of you on a budget and coming in under a thousand bucks, a minor revision update has been made today in the way of a changeover of optical drive to Lite-On's iHAS424-98 SATA DVD Writer.
Focusing our attention on the more heavily specced up Commander PC which comes in at double the price, this too just gets a minor update today to the aforementioned optical drive.
As for the cream of the crop in our Admiral PC where price is of little to no concern when wanting to build your powerhouse, this one sees revision updates today that include an optical drive changeover that continues to offer Blu-ray burning support with LightScribe while dropping the price a little to boot. The drive in question is Lite-On's iHBS212 with 8MB of cache and zippy 12x BD-R and 2X BR-RE write speeds.
We've also switched up both the video card setup and sound card on the Admiral. Now the system boasts 4x MSI GeForce N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC Video Cards in Quad SLI and ASUS' much loved Xonar Essence STX sound card.

Epson PowerLite X9 projector launches
Dell has announced a new PowerLite X9 multimedia projector. The projector is aimed at use in education environment, but it will be sold online and in stores so it will end up used for all sorts of things. It would be a nice little business projector for someone that needs lots of brightness at a lower price.

The X9 produces 2500 lumens of white, color light output, and has decent resolution for presentations. The native resolution is 1024 x 768. The 2500 lumens should be bright enough on a 3LCD projector that needs to be used in rooms with ambient light.
The lamp is good for 5000 hours; the projector has 1.2x optical zoom, and vertical keystone correction. The keystone is good for correcting up to +/- 30 degrees. The projector will launch in April at an MSRP of $599. You will probably be able to find it a bit cheaper than that once it's in stores.

Dell Adamo killed off after massive discounts
I really liked the looks of the Dell Adamo notebook. The thing that most of us didn't like was that the notebook sold for about $2000 when it first launched over a year ago. The performance just didn't live up to that big price tag and you were mostly paying for the style of the rig. Over the last few months, Dell has been offering some impressive discounts on the Adamo.

The last discount I saw put the machine at $799, less than half what the notebook started out as. I was hoping that the price would be the new selling point, and it was - until supplies ran out. CNET reports that sources have told it Dell has discontinued the Adamo.
The price cuts were to clear inventory it seems. The Adamo name won't go into the night though. The same sources claim that the Adamo name will come back on a new notebook in the next six months. If Dell hopes to keep the name in our minds, it had better not take 6-months to get a new Adamo on the market.

AMD Fusion APU accelerates Flash Player 10.2
One of the most popular types on content on the web is Flash-based stuff. Flash video and games are very popular and the lack of support for Flash is one of the biggest faults in some Apple gear. TweakTown's Aussie Flood Appeal Dream System Built and Tested
Introduction

In January the north east of Australia was devastated by floods destroying homes, businesses and even whole towns. The one thing the state needs to get back on track is money, and our humble overlord Cameron came up with a great idea to help get everyone around the world involved.
At the end of January TweakTown's Aussie Flood Appeal Dream System was born and for a small donation of just $10 USD you could get a chance to win a beast of a PC that comes in just shy of $5,000 USD.
It's all great and everything to have the parts listed, but don't you wonder just what kind of performance you can get from a machine that could set you back as little as $10 USD? - Well, we did and thought since all these great companies took the time to help bring the parts together, we would take the time to build it and show you just what you can expect.
There's no real formula for what we're doing today, so we'll just be covering the parts we've got in the system while at the same time giving a shout out to the companies that help provide them.
Once we've covered that stuff we'll get stuck into some gaming benchmarks that will help give you an idea on the kind of performance you can expect from this machine. Of course, we'll be overclocking this sucker as well, so before we get stuck into the testing side of things we'll cover what we overclocked and what we ended up with.

ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (Intel P67 Express) Motherboard Review

Introduction
One thing about the Sandy Bridge launch that has been different about any other CPU launch that I have covered has been how many motherboards were launched at the same time. I was shocked at the number that came in even before the CPUs arrived. Still, it is a good thing in most respects as it gives you plenty of choices unlike a few other CPU launches that I can think of.
For our third P67 board review we stay inside the ASUS camp, but move a little down the ladder firmly into the upper end of the consumer market. Here we find the P8P67 Deluxe. This board comes complete with Digi+ VRM, EPU and the TPU for what ASUS calls this Dual Intelligent Processors with DIGI+ VRM. But that is not all you get with this new board from ASUS. You get a front panel USB 3.0 box, SLI and Crossfire, Dual GBe LAN (one of these is an Intel LAN chip), and a built in Bluetooth module. Not to mention the performance and overclocking that comes with most ASUS motherboards.
So despite the current issues with the Sandy Bridge MCP, let's dive into the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe and see if it deserves its place at the top of the consumer ladder.

Opera - One hundred million
Opera - One hundred million

Oslo, Norway — February 10, 2011
More than 100 million people use an Opera™ browser each month on their mobile phones. According to the numbers issued today in Opera's State of the Mobile Web report, 90.4 million people now use Opera Mini™ every month and approximately 15 million people use Opera Mobile each month. In all, 105 million people use Opera on their phones.
"Experts all have some date when they claim the mobile Web will overtake the PC web — we're watching that transition now," said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder of Opera Software. "But, rather than think of numbers, we think of people. 100 million is the beginning of a new era for the Web. In the next few years, hundreds of millions of people will take their first baby steps online. They will make their voices heard across their country and around the world. They will not only discover new ideas, but contribute their own. We defend those voices and celebrate those ideas. It is why we believe access to the Web is a universal right, and no device is more universal than a mobile phone."

For a more detailed overview of the mobile revolution, please take a look at the fresh-from-the-servers State of the Mobile Web report. Every month, we cover the mobile Web in greater detail than any other company can. Visit http://www.opera.com/smw/ to read the report.
Opera shows what comes next at Mobile World Congress
105 million people might use Opera's browsers today, but Opera Software cares even more about tomorrow. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, new versions of the Opera Mini™ browser on Android, iPhone, J2ME, BlackBerry, Symbian and even the iPad will appear. The Opera Mobile™ browser will not be left behind either, with the latest version for Android and Symbian making their debut. Come by the booth to say hello, check out what is coming up next, or tell us what you would like to see from us next. We are in Hall 1, Booth C44.
"Our developers have been hard at work building the mobile browser of the future — for both consumers and mobile operators," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. "We want our browser to impact lives in a meaningful way. It's one reason we use mostly renewable resources to power Opera Mini's servers. It's why we make it light, so you don't have to recharge your battery every few hours. It's why Opera Mini and Opera Mobile can help operators reduce the bandwidth that clogs their networks. A browser may never change the world, but we'll never stop trying to."
About Opera Software ASA
Opera Software ASA has redefined web browsing for PCs, mobile phones and other networked devices. Opera's cross-platform web-browser technology is renowned for its performance, standards compliance and small size, while giving users a faster, safer and more dynamic online experience. Thermaltake 80 PLUS Gold Toughpower Grand Goes Multi-Graphics
The Efficiency Avantgarde adds 850W, 1050W and 1200W Models

Thermaltake Technology, leading DIY computer components and power supply brand, today announced the latest addition to the popular and award winning Toughpower Grand line of high-end PC power supply units, the Toughpower Grand in 850W, 1050W and 1200W versions. With this expansion into higher wattage segments, Thermaltake's flagship power supplies are now also catering to power-users and demanding eSports athletes whose gaming rigs are typically equipped with multiple graphics cards and multi-core CPUs. To run even up to quadruple-SLI/CrossFireX setups, the Toughpower Grand 1050W and 1200W units utilize two massive +12V rails, thereby effectively avoiding any potential voltage fluctuation and maximizing overall system stability in a mission-critical environment. Being 80 PLUS Gold certified users don't just get a guaranteed eco-friendly PSU with more than 93% efficiency at 50% load a! nd a 0.95 active power factor correction (PFC), but the electricity bill will noticeably drop as well.
For demanding setups and applications, industrial-grade components are indispensible and are being tested 24/7 at 50°C to ensure utmost stability and long-term reliability. The Japanese made and solid state capacitors withstand up to at least 105°C of heat serving as robust foundation for the Toughpower Grand Series. Additional DC-to-DC converter modules for +3.3V and +5V rails ensure low A/C ripple and great system stability. To further increase power efficiency as well as to reduce heat to a minimum, the Toughpower Grand series also incorporate an ultra durable 3 oz PCB design. Applying this PCB production process allows the electric current to flow with less resistance which in turn means less power loss and therefore less heat as well.
The unique FanDelayCool feature enables the flower shape 14cm fan to keep running 15-30 seconds after system shutdown to prolong the lifetime of PSU components.
Two sets of anti-vibration gaskets add to the Toughpower Grand's overall silence-promisions, while a convenient cable bag keeps the currently unneeded cables in order. With sufficient mounting screws and cable straps you ready to set up your high-end rig with a mighty power supply that stands for best power efficiency and exceptional reliability.
