Sceptre Galaxy Series LED TVs come in cool colors and have nice features
There are tons of TVs on the market today that run the gamut from small screens that fit in smaller rooms or for those on a tight budget to massive screens that run thousands of dollars and have all the bells and whistles. If you are looking for a smaller screen LED backlit HDTV to fit in a bedroom or office Sceptre has some really cool offerings and has added some new sets to its Galaxy Line.

The Sceptre Galaxy series TVs are available in several colors including black, pink, red, blue, and chrome. The colors are a nice touch, but the specs are what most people are concerned about. The line has full 1080p resolution for the 24-inch screen and the TVs can be used as a PC monitor as well. The TVs are under an inch thick at their thinnest point and slightly under 2-inches at their thickest.
The dynamic contrast ratio for the screens is 14,000:1 and the panel response time is 5ms. Connectivity includes dual HDMI ports, the sets have a USB port as well for direct viewing of photos, and audio files from a flash drive. Hulu lands new content agreement with Viacom
I would bet that a bunch of you have watched shows on Hulu that you missed during the week. Hulu is a great way to catch up on the shows you miss or that your DVR can't record. The catch is that some of the shows don't show up for weeks after they air on TV making you even more behind.

Hulu has announced that it has signed a new content agreement with Viacom. The agreement will get some Viacom shows back on Hulu the morning after they air. These shows include The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. The deal will also bring some of the cool older shows Viacom has to Hulu Plus subscribers. Any geek that was around in the 90's probably watched Beavis & Butthead. The deal will get the back episodes of the animated comedy on Hulu Plus along with Chappelle's Show (I'm Rick James Biatch!), The Hills, and Reno 911 as well.
Other new shows will hit Hulu Plus 21 days after they first air. These 21-day delay shows will include Jersey Shore, Teen Mom 2, and Tosh.0. A 21-day delay might as well be never in my book; I have forgotten about a show by that point and don't care to watch it.

AT&T iPhone 4 may get tethering on Feb 13
One of the things that Apple rolled into the iPhone on AT&T a long time ago was the ability to tether the device to give your other electronics and gadgets access to 3G connectivity. AT&T in its infinite wisdom decided to block that feature because its network of epic suck couldn't stand up to more data use. With the Verizon iPhone only a few weeks from landing in geeky hands all around the country with the tethering feature intact AT&T has more pressure to allow it on its network.

AT&T has already told us officially that on February 13 some of the smartphones on its network will in fact get tethering. However, the geniuses at AT&T won't tell us what phones will get that feature. AppleInsider reports that one geek read the review from David Pogue of the NYT of the Verizon iPhone and in the original story posted, Pogue said the iPhone was getting tethering on Feb 13.
If you go look at that review now the tethering comment has been removed. It would be safe to bet that Pogue knows tethering is coming and let the cat out of the bag early and was forced to remove the comment. If the iPhone on AT&T doesn't get tethering it will be one more reason to move to Verizon for us all.

Thanko USB-powered cat nose fan makes me wonder WTF
I have seen some weird crap that is supposed to attach to your computer over the years. Thanko sells a lot of that weird crap too. One of the stranger things was a microscope that you could use to look at your zits up close. That one made me go WTF. The latest form Thanko is another of the WTF items that the company offers.

I always wonder why I see the Japanese folks in footage of Tokyo walking around in surgical masks everywhere. I assume they are afraid of germs. Thanko has a new gadget that will plug into the USB port on your computer that you wear over that surgical mask. The name is in Japanese so I don't know what it's really called.
The device is a USB fan that looks like a cat nose and mouth. It even has whiskers! I spent many a year working in the medical world and I can tell you it gets hard to breath in surgical masks. I guess the point is to blow some cool air in there to keep you from getting too hot. The downside is you will look like some sort of perverted weirdo wearing this thing. It sells for 1980 yen on Thanko.

Interstellar Marines - You Will Believe
Interstellar Marines is an indie title made by Zero Point Software, they are also the publisher and are self-funded (independent obviously) and partly funded by the gaming community.

IM is an AAA, FPS, Sci-Fi, action and adventure game that is set to differentiate itself between the constant flogging the FPS genre receives at the moment. The above video looks quite impressive for an indie-developer and I'm looking forward to seeing more on it.
ZPS is allowing you (yes you!) to be part of the journey, they do this by releasing playable chapters which are available from their website.

Duty Calls - a parody of Call of Duty by the people behind Bulletstorm
Viral campaigns, where would we be without them? This latest viral campaign is no different, leading up to the release of Epic Games' Bulletstorm, they've released a Call of Duty parody called, Duty Calls.

The parody is quite excellent and really hones down on what makes the Call of Duty series a near joke in todays world of "serious gaming" where budgets of games have ballooned out to $50 - $100 million. In Duty Calls, it shows the first kill as a one-two shot kill, enemy down and you level up to "Master Sergeant Shooter Person".
The word that comes to mind? LOL. Secondly, the character walks next to a crate, gets shot by the enemy a few times, blood and blur are across the screen, so he shoots the enemy twice and the enemy dies. It's just perfect and how COD is these days, you are invincible while trained operatives die in the 10's if not 100's at a time.
Half way through there's another perfect bit of Call of Duty realism, two shots with a rifle and a jeep blows up. I think I'm going to buy Bulletstorm just because of this parody!

WikiLeaks has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize
Snorre Valen has nominated WikiLeaks for a Nobel Peace Prize. WikiLeaks has shown us the behind the scenes happenings of governments, where the governments would not have ever shown us this type of information.

He has been heralded as a diamond in the rough by the public and as a terrorist by the government. Governments saying that a normal man who has not deliberately killed anyone is a terrorist, yet, the confidential information he leaked makes him that said terrorist, funny.
Snorre has said "Liu Xiabao was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year for his struggle for human rights, democracy and freedom of speech in China. Likewise: Wikileaks have contributed to the struggle for those very values globally, by exposing (among many other things) corruption, war crimes and torture - some times even conducted by allies of Norway. And most recently: By disclosing the economic arrangements by the presidential family in Tunisia, Wikileaks have made a small contribution to bringing down a 24-year-lasting dictatorship.
It would be a crime to ban or oppose the right to publish such information. It should instead be protected, regardless of what we might think of the contents of some (or even all) of the published material. I am proud to nominate Wikileaks for the Nobel Peace Prize."

Google ready to pounce on the tablet market with Honeycomb
Google, unlike Apple and Microsoft don't seem to release something and then just slowly modify it over the year/s, instead they release something and never stop modifying while at the same time prepping Honeycomb for tablets as a serious release on the tablet market.

Honeycomb is set to really change things up for Google and will give them a very strong hand to fight against the onslaught that Apple is sure to bring with the sequel to their ever-successful iOS-based Apple iPad.
Honeycomb has a few features up it's sleeve such as a redesigned home screen - top left brings the search functions, top right gives application access and the bottom bar now has the traditional Android buttons - additionally, there are now no physical buttons. There are now also advanced notifications in the bottom right hand corner of the screen as well as the settings option.
Google also has "application fragments" which is just a fancy way of saying pane interface (like the Gmail app on the iPad), Google has said that developers can optimize their Android apps for Honeycomb using this. Drag and drop interactions are included in Honeycomb, allowing a user to drag and delete an e-mail for example.
Hardware acceleration is included within apps and Google says it only requires a single line of code to enable. Honeycomb also includes a new YouTube app which includes a 3D video wall, Google Books is also similar to this. Google Maps now uses 3D rendering and the buildings are even rendered in beautiful 3D.
One feature that people will surely love is video chat. Honeycomb features a widget called "contact shortcut" which gives you access to your contacts to call or email them. Video chat via Google Talk simply brings up your contact up as a full screen video.
Not long until we have this in our own hands and with this news I think I might sway from upgrading my iPad with the next-gen version and might actually swing toward an Honeycomb-powered Android tablet!

OCZ unveils new ZX series fully modular PSUs
OCZ has removed itself from all but its most core markets. That strangely has seen the company leave the RAM business that made it famous to start with and focus on the SSD market almost exclusively. OCZ has been making power supplies for a long time too and has stayed in that business as well.

The company has added a new PSU series to its range that are aimed at the user needing maximum performance. The new ZX series from OCZ have the same features with the only difference being the total power output. The line includes a 1250W unit, a 1000W unit, and an 850W unit.
All of the PSUs are fully modular with all power cables being removable. The series has a single +12V rail and the high-end 1250W unit can support three video cards while the two other units support dual video cards. The series is 92% efficient and use a traditional ATX design that will fit most cases. Pricing and availability for the new PSUs is unknown.

GoPro unveils LCD BacPac for HD Hero camcorders
I have one of the HD Hero motorsports camcorders and the camera is awesome. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't see what you are recording on it because it has no LCD. That makes it really hard to get the shot you want when using the thing away from a computer. Newer GoPro cameras have a port on the back for expansion.

GoPro has announced a new LCD BacPac that is made to use that expansion port and adds a LCD to the camcorder. The LCD will let you see what you are filming as you shoot the video. You can also use the screen to view any video you recorded previously.
The LCD BacPac ships with two new backs for the enclosure that holds the HD Hero cameras to keep them safe from water and shocks. The LCD has an integrated mic so you can hear the sound from your recordings as well. The BacPac sells for $79.99 and is shipping right now.

NZXT Bunker USB Locking Device

Introduction
NZXT is a company that we have all come to admire in one way or another. If it wasn't the small and compact nature of the Vulcan, or the very unique looking Phantom, NZXT has many other products that should still pique your interest in them. Testing almost everything they offer has shown that NZXT has a plethora of ideas that they are incorporating into products that not only improve the looks of chassis', but also offer practicality in some of the others.
Since NZXT has made just about every case style imaginable, they, like many other companies, are doing quite well with case accessories. They have already offered the Sleeved LED kits, and I seem to see them in quite a few case mods these days. Whether under the motherboard or around the open side of the chassis as case lighting, they have been a great success. There was also the IU01 USB Expansion device that offers connections for up to three more USB connections from the front panel, but also added a pair of USB 2.0 connections on the end. The idea was to add a power line to dedicate more power to drive all the devices we tend to hook up to our computers these days.
Speaking of USB connectivity, that brings me to the product we are taking a closer look at today; the Bunker from NZXT. This device not only will add four USB 2.0 connections to the front of any chassis via the use of a 5.25" bay of your choice, it also adds security built right in. NZXT offers a 20 Key system to vary the keys that ship in the box. So even if the guy next to you at a LAN has a Bunker, he only has a one in twenty chance of a matching key. The thick plastic and metal construction makes this device strong, yet light and easy to use.
I was informed that the Bunker would release at the beginning of January, but have yet to see it listed anywhere in Google shopping. I was given the MSRP from NZXT, and that pricing was set at $24.99. To be real honest, that is a really good price considering you not only get four additional USB connections, but some serious security for any of the peripherals attached within the Bunker once the door is closed and locked in place. Now that we have the finer points out of the way, let's delve deeper into the Bunker and see what provisions are in place for our peripherals survival.

LSI MegaRAID 9280-24i4e RAID Controller w/ 24 Crucial RealSSD C300s Review

Introduction
We've used the LSI 9260-8i for the past year to test multiple drive RAID arrays. The choice was pretty clear after testing the 9260-8i against several other hardware RAID controllers since it offered such a well designed software interface and blazing fast performance. The real standout feature, though, was the software interface used to build and manage arrays.
Today we are taking a look at the LSI MegaRAID 9280-24i4e, the flagship model in the MegaRAID lineup. The 9280 Series uses the same MegaRAID Storage Manager Software that we feel is the best in the industry and also shares all of the cutting edge features, like SSD Guard. The 9280-24i4e does have a big advantage over our daily use MegaRAID controller and that is its ability to run 24 internal SATA / SAS ports and an additional 4 external ports at the same time. This is done without port multipliers and all SATA / SAS connections go back to the MegaRAID 9280-24i4e.
Before we get too deep into the specifications and features, let's just move along to that section and take a look at it all at once.
Specifications, Pricing and Availability

The LSI MegaRAID 9280-24i4e is a beast when it comes to connectivity. There are four internal SFF-8087 connectors and each has the ability to connect to four drives. That gives users twenty-four internal connectors to be used for RAID. An additional SFF-8088 port is on the back of the controller and adds an additional four ports. These can be used with additional port multipliers giving the user up to 240 SATA / SAS targets. On the other end the LSI MegaRAID 9280-24i4e connects to the host through a PCIe 2.0 8 lane bus.
When it comes to the architecture, the heart is the 800MHz RAID on Chip and SAS Expander. Accompanying the RoC is a 512MB 800MHz DDR2 module that is built onboard the PCB. This does mean that the cache module is not upgradable, but there is a good reason why as well. LSI uses a predictive cache system that enhances the cache by making it 'smart'. The smart cache doesn't really reveal itself in normal benchmark testing, but in real world tests and special built synthetic tests we can see the difference.
The cache system is just the start of the special feature list. Our personal favorite is SSD Guard, a special feature that keeps your SSD array safe, also a first for RAID controllers. The LSI 9280-24i4e has several such features, but if what is included doesn't fulfill your every need, LSI has some advanced software add-on packages as well.
When it comes to pricing, Newegg currently lists the LSI MegaRAID 9280-24i4e for 1,285 USD, but we were able to find the best price at Provantage - 1192.37 USD.

Apacer Introduces SandForce-Driven Turbo II AS602 SSD Series
Apacer Technology, a global innovator in memory module, takes advantage of its technical superiority again to step up the SSD read and write speed as well as its durability. The memory giant debuts today the Turbo II AS602 SSD series, which features top-of-the-line and high-speed SandForce SF-1222 controller that helps optimize sequential read/write performance to a blazing fast of 285/275MB and delivers more IOPS (30,000 input/ 13,000 output per second). Apacer also improves SSD's capability to transfer data involving small files and increases overall transfer rate. Plus, the built-in Duraclass technology delivers best-in-class reliability tantamount to enterprise-level SLC drives and edges over previous generations
"With its technical superiority in consumer and enterprise SSD as well as the use of SandForce SF-1222 controller, Apacer has managed to create the nearly impeccable AS602 SSD," said Apacer. "Compared with its SSD counterparts, Apacer's AS602 SSD has not only the fastest sequential transfer speed but fastest random read and write speed as well. It features incredible reliability and makes up all the SSD shortcomings so as to address the speed needs for users," Apacer added.

SandForce controller delivers flagship-class read and write speed
Apacer's latest AS602 flagship is equipped with the favorable SandForce SF-1222 controller and the unique page mapping designs, which allow its transfer rate to rank on top of its counterparts. Its sequential transfer speed is up to 285/275 MB per second, which greatly increases the booting and operating speed of your computer. In addition, AS602 boasts ultra high IOPS (30,000 input/ 13,000 output per second). It is also 500 times faster than the traditional hard disk in reading small files. Regarding the display cache, Apacer's AS602 is also 5 times faster than its counterparts, while boasting outstanding performance.
In a bid to optimize the maximum speed performance of AS602, Apacer adopts the new SATA II interface which allows the fastest speed up to 300MB per second. The support for NCQ helps enhance the efficiency and sustainability that allow AS602 to run fast at high bandwidth.
Duraclass Technology offers unprecedented reliability as SLC SSD
Apacer has sort out users' biggest concern - durability with its SandForce controller featuring exclusive Duraclass technology. Also, Apacer's superior quality control magnificently extends the life of AS602 and makes it hundred times more durable than its SSD counterparts. Apacer's AS602 has the astonishing reliability that can be compared to the enterprise-class SLC.
Duraclass features the special Durawrite technology which effectively lessens the redundant read-write cycles and extends flash memory endurance by hundred times. Plus, the ECC and RAISE can help avoid catastrophic flash block failures that strengthen data security. Apacer perfectly combines the above features to create a comprehensive AS602 SSD that delivers fast transfer rate, long durability and amazing stability boasting enterprise level.

Users can enjoy sustainable and stable performance with support for TRIM command in Windows 7 right away after installation.
Elegant and sophisticated style with aluminum hair-line enclosure
Apacer's AS602 is made entirely with firm and durable aluminum. Its design is inspired by a rugged and impact resistant iron enclosure of tanks, which reflects the supreme reliability and firmness of AS602 and the distinguished position as Apacer's flagship model. It has shock resistant up to 1500G, which prevents the SSD from being damaged even if the data is transferred on the move.
The Apacer Turbo II AS602 SSD is backed by a five-year warranty. Insisting on providing top quality products and comprehensive services are Apacer's sincere commitment to its customers. The new Turbo II AS602 SSD is available in various capacities, from 60GB, 120GB, 240GB. The SSD is currently available with a bundle which includes an exclusive SSD+Optimizer package, SATA-to-USB adapter and the laptop-only disk cloning software of Acronis True Image. Apacer also offers a 2.5'' to 3.5'' mounting bracket for desktop users. Upgrading your hard disk with completed hardware and software allow you to enjoy the excellence performance of Apacer AS602 SSD and witness its speed legend.

"The new OCZ ZX Series delivers on all levels with exceptional performance and efficiency as well as a sleek modular cable design that allows customers quick and easy configuration with just the cables they need," said Charlie McMenomey , PSU Product Manager at OCZ Technology. "The fully modular design makes installation a breeze as well as helps improve airflow in systems loaded up with high performance components, and for the ultimate stability this premium PSU comes with a large diameter ultra-quiet fan design so consumers can focus on their games and applications without the distraction of fan noise."
The newest addition to the OCZ lineup completes the family of ultra-quiet, high-reliability PSUs in 850, 1000, and 1250 watts. As OCZ's first fully-modular power supply, the ZX is ideal for system builders that desire total control over connector options to maintain a tidy case environment with maximum airflow.
The ZX Series is tested and qualified for systems with multiple power-hungry drives and video cards by delivering up to 1250W of continuous power, and offers rock-solid, super-clean DC output, a powerful single +12V rail, and complete array of connectors including detachable ATX, dual CPU, and multiple PCIe and SATA pins.
