Roccat Readies Alumic Double Sided Mousepad for Both Speed and Control

MSI's high-end GeForce GTX 580 graphics card that's ready for water-cooling out of the box, the MSI N580GTX HydroGen OC, released in the European retail market, priced at €563. The N580GTX HydroGen uses the same full-coverage water-block as the N480GTX HydroGen, probably sourced from Heatkiller. The block uses a full copper base and composite metal top. It is ready for G 1/4" threads. The card comes slightly overclocked out of the box, but with the kind of cooling at its disposal, it leaves the fun part to you. Buffalo Intros Portable HDD with Antivirus and Encryption
Buffalo Technology rolled out the HDS-PXVU2 line of portable hard drives. Available in 320 GB, 500 GB, and 1 TB capacities, the HDS-PXVU2 offers built-in Trend Micro antivirus protection that keeps viruses and malware off its file-system. It also features a data-encryption software to protect confidential data. To protect the drive itself, a 16-point shock-absorbing mechanism is in place. The drive measures 90 x 20 x 134 mm, weighing 300g. It connects to the PC over USB 2.0, the cable is wound around the drive. An automatic data sync/backup software, along with the ecoManager power-saving software is also bundled. TSMC Reiterates 28 nm Readiness by Q4 2011
TSMC reiterated that it will be ready with a 28 nanometer manufacturing process by Q4 2011. The semiconductor company handles manufacturing of graphics processors for both AMD and NVIDIA. After the current 40 nm process, 32 nm, the next milestone process, was canceled for GPU makers to leap to 28 nm, this caused the foundry transition to the next process to take longer than usual. The current 40 nm process already seems to be saturated by GPUs with over 3 billion transistors, which are barely able to maintain acceptable thermal specs without using some sort of power-load throttling mechanism.
TSMC Chairman and CEO, Morris Chang, confirmed that tape-outs will be starting as early as in Q3, and production of 28 nm chips will start in Q4. Chang expects that up to 3% of TSMC's revenues will be made from 28 nm chips by the end of the year. "We plan to have around 2% or 3% of our total revenue in the fourth quarter [to] be 28nm. The tape-outs of the 28-nanaometer will start to ramp in the second half, starting in the third quarter and then more in the fourth quarter. But the real momentum [for 28nm], we believe, will be next year," Chang said. Apart from GPUs, the 28 nm process will also benefit ARM processors, with multi-core ARM chips clocked at 3 GHz being on cards. The 28 nm bulk process will also dish out AMD's next generation accelerated processing units (APUs).

Koolance Intros High-Flow 120 mm, 184 CFM Fan
Enthusiast PC cooling expert Koolance introduced its latest product, a 120 mm high-flow fan for cases, air-coolers, and radiators, but we're inclined to think it's designed to let users make the most out of smaller 2-fan radiators. Toshiba Announces Recall of Sandy Bridge Powered Notebooks
Notebook major Toshiba announced a recall-drive of all notebook PCs it sold that are based on Intel's Huron River platform, consisting of processors based on Sandy Bridge architecture and Cougar Point chipset, after Intel announced a critical design flaw with the chipset. In a consumer notice, Toshiba advised current owners of affected notebooks to return the notebooks for a full refund. It also asked users to backup data and remove all personal, confidential, or proprietary information before returning the units.
Affected models include variants of Satellite A660, Satellite A665, Satellite A665 3D Edition, Satellite E305, Satellite L655, Satellite M645, Portege R835, Qosmio X500, Qosmio X505. Details of which exact model numbers are affected, are tabled below. This Monday (1/31), Intel announced the discovery of a critical design error of the chipset that drives Intel's Sandy Bridge processors. In some cases, the SATA ports of the chipset will degrade in both performance and functionality. Intel had announced a massive component recall drive to pull out affected components from manufacturers.
