Research States LED Lights Harm Health
In a world where lights seem to overwhelm consumers on almost every device, it seems like such a thing would not even attract health concerns. But the latest research completed at multiple universities across the United States suggest that LED lights could cause some things such as cancer, obesity, and even depression. In studies done on lab mice suggests that sleeping with dim lighting in the room, which could be caused from LED lighting, can cause depression and overeating throughout the day. Even more dangerous than obesity and depression is cancer, and sleeping in a room with dim lighting can actually increase the chance for women to become diagnosed with breast cancer. Another disturbing study states that ten percent of babies who sleep with absolute darkness needed glasses, compared to the fifty-five percent of babies who slept with lighting on in the room. Though LED lights can produce enough light to disturb the human body while sleeping and cause some of these problems, the energy efficient lights have also been found to be toxic. A new study by the University of California found that LED lights contain substances such as lead, arsenic, and other different metals, which have been found to be linked to hundreds of different cancers, kidney disease, skin rashes, neurological damage, and hypertension. Luckily, these metals are only harmful to the human body if an LED is broken open and exposed, not while in normal everyday use.
