Developers split over Mac App Store license swaps
Even for those users who have been buying and downloading software on their own for years, the Mac App Store's promise of license code banishment, convenient multi-Mac licenses, and effortless one-click installation are hard to ignore. There's just one problem. If you've amassed a collection of Mac software over time, Apple doesn't offer a way to turn your existing app licenses into Mac App Store equivalents--and so far it has shown no intention of changing its tune.

iPad to lead 400 percent surge in NAND flash use this year
Apple's iPad is leading an almost five-fold surge in NAND flash memory use this year as consumers gobble up tablets in increasing numbers, according to a report released today by HIS iSuppli. The consumption of NAND flash memory chips, which are used to build SSDs (solid-state drives) used in mobile devices, is expected to soar to 2.3 billion gigabytes (2.3 exabytes) this year, up a 382.4 percent from 476.8 million gigabytes (or 476.8 petabytes) in 2010.

Microsoft accuses former manager of stealing confidential strategy docs
Microsoft has accused a former manager of taking hundreds of megabytes of confidential company material when he left the firm for a new position at CRM rival Salesforce.com. In a motion filed with a Washington State Superior Court Thursday, Microsoft alleged that Matt Miszewski, formerly a market development manager in the company's government group, lied about retaining "a large trove of materials -- 600 megabytes of information comprising more than 900 separate files (estimated at 25,000 pages)" of proprietary Microsoft information on his personal computer.
