Speculation rife that Nokia will adopt Windows Phone 7
An analyst's open letter to Nokia's CEO, a former Microsoft executive, has triggered intense speculation that the Finnish phone maker will adopt Windows Phone 7 as the firmware for at least some of its struggling smartphone line. Nokia's new CEO has planned a Feb. 11 speech to investors, so far without prebriefing analysts or press. Some speculate that event could be used for a major announcement of this type.

Forrester: SaaS faces obstacles in major software sectors
Given all the hype SaaS (software as a service) has garnered, you might be inclined to think every category of software will be delivered predominantly from the cloud at some point. Not so, says a new Forrester Research report. In fact, SaaS will only be "a disruptive force" in software categories that account for about a quarter of global software spending and will have "little or no effect" on many of some 123 market segments studied, Forrester analysts Liz Herbert and Andrew Bartels write.
