Verizon iPhone Hits Home Run
If first day sales are an indication, Verizon just hit a grand slam home run with its iPhone. The phone was offered to existing customers on February 3rd at 3am, and broke all sales records by 5am. Verizon must be doing something right or AT&T is doing something very wrong. Many buyers want an iPhone, but not so badly that they are willing to move to AT&T. That company's service problems are legendary, coverage can be spotty and the service is expensive. Comments

AT&T is running a bit scared these days, fearing the worst about their customers. The fact is, Verizon is in a very good position to tempt AT&T's customers away from them. So what does a company do in this situation? The answer to that is simple: you bribe them with shiny electronic devices. There are few catches that come along with the deal, though. Nasdaq Corporate Board Services Hacked
Hackers have successfully broken into a service which handles sensitive communications for the Nasdaq stock market. The hacking attempts have been ongoing sporadically for the past year and has been under investigation by The FBI and the Secret Service. The Justice Department requested non-disclosure, but the Wall Street Journal broke the story late Friday night. The service run by Nasdaq OMX Group Inc. carries strategic information for about 300 companies. The company said it appears no customer data was compromised. Comments

Patch Tuesday Coming Next Week
Microsoft will be issuing 12 security bulletins addressing 22 vulnerabilities next Tuesday. After a relatively quiet start to the year, Microsoft has been playing catch-up through January. The updated patches will cover systems across the board from XP to Windows 7. Notably absent is a fix for the cross-site scripting vulnerability in MHTML that affects all supported versions of Windows, though Microsoft has provided a workaround. Comments

Microsoft Re-releasing Halo 1?
If you believe in insider rumors and click your heels together 3 times, you may just see a remake of the original game, Halo: Combat Evolved to be released on its 10 year anniversary, Joystiq reports. Google Releases Chrome '9'

Hulu Plus Poised to Hit the Million Mark
When Hulu introduced its paid subscription service Plus last year, many users of the service scoffed at the idea of a paid service, especially when regular Hulu was still free. The strategy seems to be working so far, with Hulu Plus announcing a new deal with Viacom on Wednesday. Kilar also said that all of Hulu, including its free website, will generate nearly $500 million in revenue in 2011, up from $263 million in 2010 and $108 million in 2009. Comments

The video was put up on YouTube and went viral almost immediately, causing NBC to react by canning the employee. Microsoft Saves H.264 Support for Chrome
Microsoft released an extension to restore H.264 video format to Googlefs Chrome Browser for Windows 7 users. Google dropped support for the format last month, upsetting many Chrome users and developers. Microsoftfs release follows shortly on another free add-on for FireFox that enables Windows 7 users to play H.264 video using Windows 7Œs built in media capabilities. HP to Make Good on Faulty Chipset PC's
Hewlett Packard is working closely with Intel offering its customers a refund or replacement on computers purchased with Intel's flawed Sandy Bridge chipsets. HP is the world's largest computer manufacturer. "HP is working with Intel and our distribution partners to address this industry-wide issue," the HP spokesperson said. "HP and Intel are working together to minimize any inconvenience to customers." Comments

MTV Closes Down Game Production
Viacom, the owner of MTV, closed down operations of its game division this week. The MTV operation produced the popular Rock Band and Dance Central game franchises. Mexican Drug Cartel Rips Off Microsoft
Microsoft revealed on Friday Mexican drug cartel La Familia is raking in big bucks manufacturing and selling pirated copies of Microsoft Office. According to a Bloomberg report, the cartel is even including its own logo on the packaging. Microsoft showed off unauthorized copies of its Office 2007 software in Paris today which the company said it found for sale in Mexico. Comments
