Special Edition SpeedLink Classic USB Joystick is Solid Gold, No idea Why

Ah, it’s such a relief not needing to inject humor into new product release, this thing practically makes fun of itself. SpeedLink has decided to celebrate its history with a Special Edition version of their Competition Pro Special Edition Joystick. This retro controller harkens back to the era of the Atari and Amiga consoles. Perfect through simplicity, the classic joystick is a time-honored implement and SpeedLink has updated it to work on modern machines via USB. Great for quick MAME sessions their rebirth of the joystick is now old enough for a rebirth of its own (apparently). To celebrate its Silver anniversary the joystick has been recast in Gold. Perfectly functional, the gold plated accessory is a 4 button controller and comes with 2 packages of classic games from Amiga and Commodore 64. One of the buttons is the much sought after, rapid fire button. Each Competition Pro Special Edition Joystick comes with a numbered authenticity card. As fond as we are of retro gaming, the market for gold plated editions of copies of classics of yester-year don’t have much of a collectors market. One can hardly keep out the images of Mr. T and Lady Gaga playing Donkey Kong head to head. You can purchase one of these next month but final price hasn’t been released yet.

Plextor Rolls out USB 3.0 12x Blu-ray Burner

For many people the idea of an external Blu-Ray reader / writer combo drive seems like a less than optimal solution. The reason for this is simple: lack of bandwidth available and the time it takes to burn them. When you are talking about massive Blu-Ray disks, the older USB 2.0 standard just makes for one tedious, and boring process as you wait and wait and wait for the darn thing to be finished! For many this is why simple avoid external Blu-ray drives and opt for internal only versions. Well that is a thing of the past, as Plextor has just released a speedy 12X Blu-Ray burner that uses the new and super beefy USB 3.0 interface! With the all new PX-LB950UE Blu-ray you can literally have all the benefits of an internally connected Blu-ray drive (12x single layer, 8x dual layer write speeds) with the portability and ease of use that external drives offer. Even better if you don't have USB 3.0 on all your computers, the Plextor PX-LB950UE 12x Blu-ray also comes with eSATA capabilities. Add in a CyberLink software bundle to round things out and this combination of speed, flexibility and portability really sounds like a match made in Heaven. Though with all that performance and ease of use comes a down side: price; as this new drive is going to set you back about $290. For many this is a fair trade-off but, by the same token we don't think anyone with an internal Blu-Ray burner is going to rush out and buy this one as a secondary device!

Samsung HMX-H105 Camcorder Big on Features, Small on Price. Now Only $299.99.

For all you oldsters out there (like us) who remember the first "digital" camcorders (or "handi-cams") we are sure you have "fond" memories of lugging those brutes around as you tried to get low quality, shaky video and record it on those "little" video tapes. Well those days are long, long gone! The newer breed of camcorders can not only record in 1080p to SD cards but are also down right minuscule. Take the Samsung HMX-H105 (shipping since late 2009) which weighs in at an amazing 0.78 lbs, yet can take high definition video and record it to itty-bitty, yet high capacity, SDHC cards that can store up to 64GB of data. While it can not support the even newer SDXC cards (which make the SDHC's 64GB look as small as the camcorder itself) that's not a big deal as those newer SDXCs cost a frickin' fortune! Don't let that small size fool you either as its not just able to do 1080i (30fps) or 720p (60fps) but also boasts a 10X optical zoom Schneider Kreuznach Verioplan lens backed up by a 1/4.5-inch CMOS sensor. This means the video you do record won't look like you took it on a video phone. When this camcorder first cam out it went for nearly $800 bucks, but that too has gone on an extreme diet and can now be found for as little as 299.99! (Original MSRP is $749.99) That to us sounds like on heck of a deal, even if it can't do 1080p!
