Microsoft Says Over Two Million Licenses Have Been Sold to Manufacturers for Windows Phone 7
There is no denying that Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 needs to be a success for the company if nothing more than to get itself back in the mobile phone world. According to the folks in Redmond, WP7 has done just that with over two million licenses being sold to manufacturers to date. This means that there have been over two million Windows Phone 7 devices made around the world, but this does not mean that over two million have been sold since there could be a number of phones sitting in store shelves. There are no concrete facts on just how many phones are in the hands of consumers, but hopefully there is somewhere close to two million. For comparison's sake, Apple had sold three million iPhone 4's about a month after it launched but keep in mind that is an established phone brand and WP7 is quite new. Sure, there are Windows Mobile 6.5 devices still around, but that just leaves a bad taste in most user's mouths so Microsoft basically had to start from scratch for Windows Phone 7.
Microsoft is having an earnings call tomorrow so it looks like we won't have long to wait to see just how successful its new phone line really is.

Mach Xtreme Announces MX-GX USB 3.0 Flash Drive
Mach Xtreme has just unveiled its newest line of flash drives, the GX series. The Mach Xtreme MX-GX USB 3.0 series is being billed as the slimmest quad-channel USB 3.0 flash drive on the market, and at only 8mm thick, it is quite easy to see why. The MX-GX USB 3.0 drive will transfer at speeds up to 85MB/second for read and 45MB/s for write using a USB 3.0 port, but it will still work with USB 2.0 ports just at a slower speed. You can also download the MX TurboFlash utility which can give you up to a 25% increase in performance if you feel the drive isn't performing as fast as it should. The whole drive is also shock and vibration resistant, so you should feel safe when transporting it between various computers. Mach Xtreme is including a two year warranty on the flash drive.
The Mach Xtreme MX-GX USB 3.0 flash drive will be available in 8, 16, 32, and 64GB capacities starting on February 14th. The prices start at $24 for the 8GB, $36 for the 16GB, $59 for the 32GB, and $149 for the 64GB.

Connectivity is covered by USB 2.0, audio, microphone, Firewire 400 (optional) and e-SATA (optional) support on the front panel. This chassis supports standard ATX PSUs and weighs 4.0kg.
Next up is the Elite 371 chassis, targeted at gamers. This chassis includes three exposed 5.25" bays and six 3.5" bays (one exposed, five hidden), allowing ample space for optical drives and storage. This is coupled with one rear 120mm fan for cooling, with the option to add up to two 120mm fans on the top, one front 120 or 140mm fan, two side 120 or 140mm fans and one bottom 120mm fan. The top mounted fan slots and bottom mounted PSU slot include air filters to reduce dust build-up. Other features include tool-less installation of optical drives and hard drives and a CPU-cut out to enable easy mounting of CPU coolers. Two USB 2.0 ports and a pair of audio ports (audio out and microphone) can be found on the front panel. Additionally this chassis supports up to two HD 5970 video cards. Researchers at NC State Detail New Memory Technology
Researchers at North Carolina State University are working on a new memory technology that could solve the issue of needing volatile and nonvolatile memory. Volatile memory allows for faster speeds, but doesn't support the ability to save data. Nonvolatile operates slower, but allows for saving of data, such as in flash drives. This new technology uses double floating-gate field effect transistors instead of the current single floating-gate FETs. By using a double floating-gate, the researchers have been able to use each transistor as both volatile and nonvolatile memory, with a predicted very long lifetime. By using this technology, system startup time could be reduced, and servers could store important data in memory that could be quickly restored. Full details can be found in the paper "Computing with Novel Floating-Gate Devices," which will be published on February 10 in IEEE's Computer.

MSI Introduces AMD E350IA-E35 Mini-ITX Motherboard
The AMD Fusion platform looks to be the hot item for the HTPC crowd, and MSI is looking to cater directly to them with its latest product. The MSI E350IA-E45 motherboard packs a new AMD E350 Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) in a mini-ITX form factor. The E350 APU is a 1.6GHz dual-core processor that has a DX11 GPU on the same die in the form of the HD 6310. That combination allows for smooth HD video as well as low-power usage which is ideal for HTPC users. The motherboard has four SATA 6Gbps ports and two USB 3.0 ports to help get you the fastest transfer speeds possible internally and externally. There are two DDR3 slots which supports up to 1333MHz sticks, plus a PCI-e x16 slot if a discrete video option is what you prefer. The PCI-e slot only runs at x4 speeds though so keep that in mind when considering what to populate it with. On the rear you will find an HDMI and D-Sub port plus the 8 channel onboard audio connections and Gigabit Ethernet port.
There was no mention of when the MSI E350IA-E45 motherboard will launch or at what price.

Razer Announces Ferox Portable Speakers
Razer is one of the leading manufacturers of all things gaming related, including audio products like the one it is announcing today. The Razer Ferox is an ultra portable speaker set that delivers 360 degree omni-directional sound, just like the old Razer Mako desktop speakers. What makes the Ferox unique is that despite its small size, the audio is not diminished at all since it makes use of optimized digital amplifiers for outstanding performance and power efficiency. Since the audio from the speakers comes out in a circle instead of a cone that faces you, there are no dead zones when you are trying to listen to your favorite music or play your favorite game. The Ferox features an expandable resonance chamber that, with the push of a button, rises the top of the speaker up to deliver more bass. Since the Ferox is designed for portability, there is no external power source needed. The speakers run entirely off rechargeable batteries and the charge should last for up to twelve hours. There is a 3.5mm jack to connect to any system in order to get stereo sound, plus the included carrying cases ensures your Ferox speakers won't be left behind.
The Razer Ferox speakers should be available now for $59.99.
