AMD Bulldozer Parts to Carry 'FX' Moniker?
Well, this bit of news is certainly interesting if it is indeed true. It seems that AMD is getting set to revive the 'FX' moniker for the upcoming Bulldozer parts, something that hasn't graced an AMD CPU since the Athlon 64 FX-70 back in 2006. The flagship Zambezi models, the four-module, eight-core versions, will apparently be branded as AMD Vision Black FX. The four-module, six-core Bulldozer models will be the AMD Ultimate Vision FX. Previously, the AMD FX CPUs were similar to the Intel Extreme Edition parts and carried similar $1,000 price tags. However, AMD dropped the FX nomenclature in 2006 and kept all of its CPUs at the $300 range and below, while Intel still has $1,000 parts. If this rumor is accurate, it will be interesting to see if the new AMD FX chips will carry a price premium or still be in the more affordable segment of the last few years. I hope that if the new chips do have FX in the name, this means the price tag will be in the sub-$300 range like the current models are.
The AMD Bulldozer CPUs and 900 series motherboards are expected to launch in the second quarter of 2011.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Specifications Revealed
The upcoming launch of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 has been rumored for some time, and now it seems the specifications have been revealed. The GTX 560 will be a fully unlocked GF104 part, which means it will be using a GF114 chip. It will have eight SMs, eight PolyMorph engines, 32 ROPs, and 384 SP. It will purportedly keep the 256-bit memory interface and the same 1GB GDDR5 RAM, though this time at 4.0GHz. The clock speeds will be at 820MHz for the core and 1640MHz for the shaders which is a massive 22% increase over the GTX 460. The TDP is increased to 180 watts, so it will have two 6 pin PCI-e power connections on the rear. Pricing is expected to be in the $250 range with performance around that of the AMD HD 6870. Factory overclocked models will have core speeds near 900MHz and performance near that of the HD 6950, so it seems this card will love overclocking just as much as the GTX 460 it replaces.
The GTX 560 is scheduled to launch on January 23rd, so we will see if this specifications hold any truth.

Thermaltake Max 5G USB 3.0 HDD Enclosure Revealed
Thermaltake has just revealed its newest external hard drive enclosure, the Max 5G USB 3.0, and by the looks of it should help keep any hard drive inside nice and cool. There are two 80mm fans keeping everything cool, and you can even turn off the blue LEDs on the fans if you want to keep things minimal. Internally, you can connect any 3.5" SATA drive, from SATA I up to SATA III, with a maximum capacity of 2TB. So no, you can't hook up one of the new 3TB drives but any 2TB will work out just fine. Externally, you connect the enclosure to your computer via a USB 3.0 port to get transfer speeds up to 5Gbps, hence the 5G part of its name. The port is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1, just with the much slower transfer speeds those provide.
There is no word on when the Thermaltake Max 5G USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure will be available to buy, though it is expected to cost $52.

European Standardization Committees Formalize Micro-USB Connections for All Cellphone Chargers
About a year ago, RIM, Motorola, Nokia, Apple, and a variety of other cellphone manufacturers agreed on a micro-USB charger standard for all cellphones in Europe. Yesterday, the two key standardization bodies finally formalized matters by publishing standards for a universal micro-USB charger. This means it is up to the manufacturers to implement a micro-USB port on every phone made for the European market that is capable of being connected to the computer. This will more than likely only affect smartphones, though some featurephones may be included as well. The European Commission expects the first products with the new standard to appear in the first few months of 2011 with the standard being widespread in two years. What this means for European consumers is that you will only need one charger no matter what phone you buy, whether it is an iPhone or a Galaxy S phone, all you need is one micro-USB charger.
