MSI introduces Sandy Bridge boards with graphical BIOS
MSI unveiled several new motherboards built for Intel's latest processor line-up, Sandy Bridge. The P67- and H67-series motherboards feature MSI's overclocking control center, geared for easy setup or advanced configuration, while the EFI BIOS brings a graphical interface navigable using a mouse cursor. The flagship Big Bang Marshal offers eight x16/x8 PCI Express slots, four DDR3 RAM slots, and eight USB 3.0 ports. The new models are also built with higher-quality components, such as tantalum capacitors and SFC chokes.

Mozilla Firefox rules in Europe
StatCounter has revealed that Mozilla's Firefox browser is now in pole position in the European market. This is the first time that Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser has lost the top spot in a major market, according to the analytics firm. The figures show that during December, Firefox claimed 38.1 percent of the market while Internet Explorer fell to 37.5 percent. Firefox's jump to the top was actually helped along by Google's Chrome browser, which saw its share in Europe rise from 5.1 percent last year to 14.6 percent this year. Ironically, the Firefox browser only seems to have managed to maintain its share from the previous year.

Samsung introduces DDR4 memory
Samsung has introduced its first DDR4 DRAM memory modules, which are manufactured using 30nm process technology. The new chips are claimed to offer significant improvements to power efficiency and overall performance, reaching data transfer speeds of up to 2,133 gigabits per second (or 2,133 MHz effectively) at 1.2V. The new circuit architecture is claimed to be capable of scaling up to 3.2 Gbps at higher voltages.

AMD has shed more details (http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/graphics/amd-radeon-6000m/Pages/amd-radeon-6000m-series.aspx) regarding the enthusiast parts of the new mobile Radeon generation, including HD 6900M and HD 6800M. The top-notch AMD Radeon HD 6900M features 960 stream processors and 48 texture units. The GPU is clocked between 580 and 680MHz which is enough for 1.1 to 1.3TFLOPS of processing power. The GPU will be paired with GDDR5 memory clocked at 3.6Gbps. The HD 6800M has 800 stream processors and 40 texture units. The GPU works between 575MHz and 675MHz which gives between 920 and 1080 GigaFLOPS of single precision processing power. This one is also paired up with a GDDR5 memory that is clocked between 3.6 and 4.0Gbps.

Android 3.0 to require faster hardware
According to Bobby Cha, managing director of Korean consumer electronics firm Enspert, Google's upcoming Android 3.0 software, named Honeycomb, will have a number of hardware requirements. The tablet-optimized OS will require a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor at minimum, as well as 1280 x 720 display resolution. At the moment, the only processor with that power is the Nvidia Tegra 2, although a few have been promised for 2011.

AMD launches Fusion platform
Since today, AMD's Fusion vision has become a reality as the company launched the Brazos platform, a low-power offering that makes use of the first Fusion APUs (accelerated processing units), the single-core C Series (Ontario) and the dual-core E Series (Zacate). The four chips introduced (C-30, C-50, E-240 and E-350) are made by TSMC using 40nm process technology and feature Bobcat x86 cores, an integrated DDR3 memory controller and a DirectX11-capable graphics core with 80 Stream Processors.
