Portal 2 Gets Solid Release Date
Not too long after announcing that Portal 2 would be delayed a bit comes the news of an actual release date. Valve announced last night that Portal 2 would be releasing on April 21, 2011, for the PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. So, it seems that Valve Time and Real Time may actually start to coexist provided no other delays appear. Valve also announced that the game will be distributed via EA Partners so it should be able to hit every retailer on time. Valve also said that Portal 2 will be launching with a "first-class launch campaign," so I suspect we will be seeing a multitude of TV spots and trailers released in the coming months to get everyone geared up for the sequel to one of the surprise hits from 2007. It looks like we will not have to wait very long to see what Valve has in store this time around, and perhaps even get a bit of cake in the process.

Logitech Launches Three PC Gamepads
For some PC gamers, a good gamepad is essential to the experience. Sure, many people swear by the mouse and keyboard but there are always a few who prefer holding a controller in their hands. For that, Logitech is introducing three new gamepads that are sure to fit a variety of needs. The three models are the Gamepad F310, F510, and F710, all of which take advantage of XInput and DirectInput. Those two technologies means these gamepads will work just fine with legacy titles and new titles so you won't have to worry about an older, or newer, game not working. The Gamepad F310 has a six foot cord so you should be able to use it from any distance. The F510 is known as the Rumble Gamepad F510 since it incorporates two vibration motors into it. Those motors will activate when you play any game that supports vibration feedback which will help to immerse you in the game just a little bit more. The F710 is the Wireless Gamepad  F710 and it will allow you to game wirelessly via a 2.4GHz connection. It also features vibration motors just like the F510. To use the F710, simply plug in the Nano receiver into a USB port and you are freed from the confines of a wired controller. An additional bonus to these controllers is that all three will contain codes to redeem items in the game MapleStory.
All three of the controllers are available now with the F310 costing $24.99, the F510 at $34.99, and the F710 at $49.99.

Acer Readies Aspire One Netbook with AMD Fusion
Acer is readying yet another Aspire One netbook, but this time with a twist. The Aspire One 522, or AO522 will stand out from the crowd and be based on AMD's upcoming Fusion platform. The AO522 will feature a 9W AMD C-50 "Ontario" Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) consisting of two 1GHz cores, coupled with Radeon HD 6250 graphics. The Radeon HD 6250 supports DirectX 11 and Universal Video Decoder 3 (UVD3), an impressive feat for a netbook. A 10.1" 1280x720 screen and a HDMI output finish the high-definition experience. The AO522 is rated to last 6 hours on battery. Acer did not reveal an availability date or pricing for the AO522, but I'd stay on the lookout to see how this powerful Fusion netbook performs.

Four Major Carriers Weigh In on Net Neutrality
It certainly didn't take long for a reaction to the FCC's net neutrality rules which just passed yesterday. All four major carriers in the US have weighed in on it, even though the full text of the rules still have not been released. The four carriers, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon, each have differing things to say on net neutrality and which company said what may surprise you. Sprint basically commended the FCC for passing the limited net neutrality rules and calls it a "fair and balanced approach to a difficult issue." So, it seems Sprint is in favor of it, but what about T-Mobile? T-Mobile says it will review the rules carefully before commenting but hopes it means the FCC will move on to the national broadband plan. AT&T is thankful the FCC passed it though has concerns over some of the lingering issues. It seems AT&T is content with the fairness of it all, though Verizon is well, kind of blunt in its response. Verizon says it is committed to bringing an open Internet to its customers and thinks the FCC is reaching a bit too beyond its grasp. It almost seems like Verizon is putting lawyers on speed dial since it says the net neutrality rules that were passed depart from the basic principles put forth by Presidents Clinton and Bush. Like I said, it is a bit surprising to see what each major carrier had to say about the rules being passed, and I suppose we will have to wait until the entire text is released before passing more judgement.

Samsung Sell 9.3 Million Galaxy S Phones
Not too long after having cracked the million mark with the Galaxy Tab comes the news that Samsung has sold 9.3 million Galaxy S phones. The Galaxy S line debuted earlier this summer and Samsung set a mark two months ago of selling 10 million phones by the end of the year. Well, with just about one week left in 2010 the company is at 9.3 million phones sold in the world. Not too shabby a number and really close to that 10 million goal, which Samsung expects to be hit before the year ends. The Galaxy S line has also done well in its home country of South Korea as it has sold two million phones there while the Apple iPhone 4 is only at 1.8 million. Pretty good numbers all around, especially when you consider that the four major US carriers have a Galaxy S phone each. Hopefully this means that Android 2.2 and 2.3 upgrades will be coming to the entire line before long.

It Pays to Secure Your Wireless Connection
These days it pays to use the best security available for your wireless connection, or maybe hacking your neighbor's wireless connection just doesn't pay. Either way you look at it, a man in Minnesota is facing up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to hacking his neighbor's wireless connection, identity theft, possession of child pornography along with issuing death threats against Vice President Joe Biden among others.

Barry Vincent Ardolf used the Aircrack software to crack into his neighbor's Wi-Fi that was secured using WEP encryption standard. Ardolf then set up accounts on Yahoo and MySpace to begin a campaign to embarrass his neighbor and cause him other troubles by e-mailing child pornography to the neighbor's co-workers at the law firm where he worked. Ardolf also used the fake MySpace account to post additional pornographic images. Fortunately for the victim, the law firm hired a security consultant who installed a packet sniffer which detected Ardolf logging into the Wi-Fi connection.

Both the older Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and its replacement, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) have known vulnerabilities which is why users should upgrade to the newer WPA-2 encryption.
