Leadtek GeForce GTX 570: A Response at the Right Time
Although officially a card presented before AMD's new series, GeForce GTX570 has only recently arrived to our offices. This situation basically made us test Cayman-based models (Reviews/Graphics-cards/Radeon-HD-6900-Series-Small-Islands-Large-Chip.html) before the new NVIDIA card, even though it had already been available at the market. We really weren't in particularly high spirits concerning this card, since it's only a slight modification of GTX580, with changes ranging from power consumption-reducing ones to various price optimisations in order to reduce the total price and successfully match the competitors. This is exactly where NVIDIA has shined this time around, since GTX570 is fantastically positioned price-wise; although it brings literally nothing new to the table, its price alone makes it an entirely different product. We got a Leadtek model for testing, a brand that we haven't seen around for a long time, which is a real shame, as they're reputed for their high-quality graphics cards.

Windows Phone 7 now has over 5000 apps
It seems that Windows Phone 7 in the past day has quietly passed the 5,000 app mark. As of Wednesday, Windows Phone Marketplace had 5,149 titles. The growth was a quick jump from 4,000 a week earlier and 3,000 at the end of November. The store size is still well behind those of Apple (300,000) and Google (100,000) but, in roughly two months, has closed in on virtually all small-scale mobile app portals. It has already caught up to Palm's 1.5 year old webOS store and now has a third of the 15,000 apps of BlackBerry App World despite RIM's store being older than Palm's.

Intel introduces SSD 310 for notebooks
Intel rolled out a new solid-state drive that could make for widespread dual-drive notebooks. The SSD 310 is as fast as some of the chip designer's full-size X25 drives, but an eighth the size. They can reach up to 200MB per second in sequential writes and 70MB per second in similar writes, improving the responsiveness by as much as 60 percent compared to a 5,400RPM conventional drive. At 0.2 inches deep and 0.35 ounces, the micro SATA drive is small and light enough that it can be used as a boot drive to speed up the OS itself but still leave room for a second drive that provides the bulk of the storage. Intel specifically singles out all-in-one and mini desktops as well as notebooks, all of which could both start the OS and apps faster but still have as much space as they need for everything else.

Smartphones to be top malware targets in 2011
Security company McAfee has listed its expected targets for malicious activity in the next, claiming Apple devices, smartphones, URL shorteners and geo-location services will be at the top of the list. Apple, for example, has long been seen as more secure or safer than its Windows counterparts, but digging deeper into the matter has always resulted in the same conclusion. Apple devices appear safer because virus writers have not taken the time to write for them. Why waste time trying to infect 9 percent of the world's PCs, when you can take just as much time to write code that could infect the other 91? However, now that Apple devices such as Macs or iOS are practically in every household, McAfee says the company will become a much larger target.

Call of Duty Black Ops most pirated game in 2010
Website TorrentFreak has posted their list of the most pirated video games of the year, and unsurprisingly the top title is Call of Duty: Black Ops.
