Amazon: Web Problem Due to Hardware, Not Hackers
Amazon released a statement today claiming that the outages the company experienced over the weekend were hardware related, not a hacker attack. Internet retailer Amazon is denying that pro-WikiLeaks hackers were responsible for the failure of its websites in several European countries. Amazon sites were offline for about half an hour in Britain, France, Germany and other countries late Sunday, leading to speculation they could have been targeted by online "hacktivists." Comments

Most U.S. Broadband Connections Aren't Broadband
Just because your ISP calls it broadband, doesn't mean that it actually is. New data from the FCC suggests that most consumers aren't getting speeds that technically adhere to the agency's new definition of broadband, which was recently changed to 4 Mbps downstream and 1 Mbps upstream. According to the study, more than two-thirds (68%) of the 90,963,000 U.S. broadband connections tracked were too slow down or upstream (or both) to technically qualify as high-speed service -- not even meeting 3Mbps/768 kbps. Gawker Commenter Database Hacked
It looks as though Gawker's commenter database has been hacked exposing 1.5 million usernames and passwords. Gawker Media includes Kotaku, Gizmodo, Life Hacker, Jalopnik Valleywag and other sites, so if you've ever made comments on any of those sites, your information has been compromised. Thanks to Michael L. and everyone else for the link. "We're deeply embarrassed by this breach," Kidder continued. "We should not be in the position of relying on the goodwill of hackers who identified the weakness in our systems. And yes, the irony is not lost on us." Comments

MSI to Unveil New Laptops at CES 2011
MSI will be displaying its new generation of notebook creations from 6-9 January at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the USA. Its booth number 30559, will be located in Convention Center South Hall 3. Laptops to be shown will include machines from the G Series of gaming computers, F Series ultimate performance NBs, the C Series of stylish multimedia notebooks, the X-Slim Series which features ultra-thin, ultra-light laptops, Wind U netbooks, and WindPad tablets. Google Says the Cloud is Our Future
Google seems to have become the new voice for Cloud Computing strangely timed to the recent release of Chrome OS and the Cr-48. 2011 will most likely be the year of the Cloud, with many devices making their debuts next year to make it all possible. It's nice to have Google on board in such a timely manner. "[For example], backups, what happens if your computer dies? Viruses or malware. Winklevosses' Vs. Zuckerberg, Round Two
If you saw "The Social Network" movie, you may recognize the name of Winklevoss. That is the name of the twins in the movie and real life who hired Mark Zuckerberg to code the "Harvard Connection" They then sued Zuckerberg over intellectual property disputes. The suit was settled, but recently uncovered documents may take all of this litigation back into the courtroom. The documents, which apparently were leaked to the site, were filed by Facebook's legal representatives in response to the former classmates' attempts to overturn a settlement they made with Zuckerberg three years ago. Quantum Dot Displays Start to Shine
QD Vision announced a partnership with LG Display to develop display technology using Quantun Dot technology (QLED). The company cites the ease of manufacture, brightness and energy efficiency of the technology as a possible replacement for OLED technology in many applications. Quantum dots are nanometer-sized semiconducting crystals that can shine a bright, spectrally pure color when exposed to either light (photoluminescence) or electrical current (electroluminescence). T-Mobile Going with 4-G Tablet
T-Mobile is jumping into the 4-G tablet arena next year, competing directly with Sprint. Verizon, not to be outdone, is expected make the jump also. This is starting to look more like the battle of the press releases rather than useful information. Neither T-Mobile or Sprint offered any details besides the 4G capabilities of their tablets, so OS, pricing, release dates, and manufacturers are yet unknown. Comments

Zynga's newest game has broken the company record reaching 6 million active users in only 8 days. CitiVille is the newest in a line of games released by Zenga since its startup in 2007. Someone has way too much time on their hands. Zynga claims to be the largest social game network on the web with self-published numbers of 1.3 million daily active users and 20 million registered users. Comments

For a $7.99 per month subscription, the app will bring a large selection of streaming shows straight to your net device of choice. TV is just not for TV any longer. Hulu first debuted as a free site, and while it can still be accessed for free, it's now offering a premium service, Hulu Plus, which promises a greater selection of content and the ability to access it all on devices other than a computer.
