Patriot Supersonic Flash Drives Enter USB 3.0 Mode

While Patriot is probably best known for the RAM and their Solid State drives, they have actually made some pretty nifty flash drives ike their Patriot Magnum line. The one thing that has been conspicuous by its absence is a USB 3.0 flash drive! Well for all you Patriot fans, the wait is over as Patriot has just announced the Supersonic series. On paper, the Patriot Supersonic series does sound very decent, but its 100MB/s read, 70MB/s write performance rating does not sound all that special; especially when you consider Kingston, Super Talent and a host of other companies have not only as good but better flash drives on the market. The same can be said of the all metal body, as even LaCie is boasting an all metal flash drive! With that being said, what does sound very intriguing is the fact that this flash drive will not need both a NAND flash controller and a USB bridge chip; rather it will be a single chip solution. The Supersonic's unknown controller literally has an integrated USB controller built into NAND memory. This means that the Supersonic flash drives can be smaller than others, run cooler than others and all round perform better (in theory) on smaller file transfers as it should have lower latency. While Patriot is mum on pricing what is known is it will come in 32 and 64GB sizes and should be available early next year.

Shogun Bros Chameleon X-1 Mouse Hides Gamepad

Every once in awhile a new product release comes along and even if we know it's probably not going to work all that well, we want the darn thing. It's pretty hard to impress pretty hardcore old school gamers like us. So it's once in a blue moon when we first laid eyes on the new release we went "Oh my god, that is so cool! Where do I sign up to buy it?!". Honestly what sounds cooler than combining a wireless game pad and a wireless mouse into one body? It's wireless, it's a game controller, it's a mouse; it's a wireless game pad mouse combo!! That's like a perfect trifecta; heck it even has a cool name as Shogun Bros. are calling this hybrid input device the Chameleon X-1! Basically, what Shogun Bros. has done it mold on the bottom of your typical wireless optical mouse a fully functioning game controller. While the hardware specs are not all that impressive (as its only an optical based mouse with a 5-stage adjustable 1600dpi sensor) and there is no information on its 2.4Ghz wireless dongle range or even battery life, this really does look like it is better than the sum of its parts. While a hard release date (besides sometime in the first quarter of 2011) is not known, what is known is that it should retail for about $55 and that the mouse portion has 7 buttons and the game pad as 14. We don't know about you, by we can't wait to see this available on a retailers shelf so we can take a long hard look at it in person.
