AMD Catalyst 2011 preview and image quality investigation
AMD have promised that Catalyst 10.12 will be "big" - not, in appears, in terms of driver package size, but instead in terms of what it's going to offer to AMD graphics board users. Rage 3D takes a look at the shiny new Catalyst Control Center interface we'll be using next year, amongst other things.
AMD partnered with the design company Infusion, experts in usability and User Interface design, to create the new UI design. The new Catalyst software is designed to be intuitive and task-based, bringing the familiar feel of Internet browsers to the Control Center. Features such as search, navigation bars, and bookmarks (in CCC known as pinned pages) are included.
Long overdue, the new UI is finally resizable. The controls themselves inside the interface are familiar, being the same as in the old CCC. The standard view is now useful, with a clear and simple settings view , which are easy to find.
In standard and advanced views, you can create a list of pinned pages - favorite settings pages which you can access from your pinned list with a single click. If you've ever gone in and out of CCC multiple times in quick succession, pinned lists will be a boon for you. The UI is fast and responsive, even on a low powered CPU (Intel Core 2 @ 2GHz).
