If you are a fan of netbooks that run alternate OS' a new offering is set to hit the UK today on Amazon. The new netbook is called the Jolibook and the thing can be pre-ordered and has a very vague and long estimated ship time. DonÂ’t expect to get your hands on this thing in time for Christmas.

According to Amazon UK, the machine will ship 1 to 3 months from today if you pre-order. That is a serious range and enough to make me go looking for another netbook to order. The only thing different about the Jolibook and any other netbook on the market is the OS. Other than the Jolicloud 1.1 OS, the machine is your basic netbook under the skin.
The machine has a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 display, an Atom N550 CPU, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB HDD, and WiFi. The netbook also has Bluetooth, a 0.3MP webcam, and a 6-cell battery promising 7-hours of run time per charge. Apparently, the reason for the large range of ship dates is that the OS is not ready. You can pre-order for 279.99 pounds right now.

Samsung Galaxy Tab selling well
Samsung is one of the first major players to toss a tablet onto the market to compete with the iPad. The tablet Samsung unveiled was the Galaxy Tab. The 7-inch screen device has been on the US market since mid-October and has only recently started to ship in other countries. The Tab hit Korea on November 14.

Samsung had stated before that it plans to move about a million of the tablets this year. So far, Samsung has managed to sell 600,000 Galaxy Tabs around the world. 30,000 units have sold in Korea since it launched there this month. Those numbers should make it easy for Samsung to hit is million unit sales goal.
If you live under a rock and somehow have missed the Galaxy Tab before the thing runs Android 2.2 and has a 7-inch screen. It has integrated 3G connectivity and WiFi. The battery is good for about 7-hours and it runs a 1GHz application processor. It has a 3MP camera with LED flash and has GPS, 1080p video capability and a lot more. You can find the thing on various carriers all around the world or buy it unlocked at Amazon and in other stores.

Futuremark and MSI hold 3DMark 11 contest
Futuremark has been known to hold contests on occasion. The last one I recall was where you could win a new display for posting the highest score on the 3DMark app. A new contest for 3DMark 11 is being held ahead of the launch of the software this week. The new contest is open until the launch of the software.

All you have to do to participate in the contest is hit the source link at the bottom of this post and make your guesses. The person who comes closest to the correct 3DMark 11 score for each of the three test systems at the specified settings will win the mainboard and video card from the system.
You can only use one email per person, so you canÂ’t guess with 100 different email addresses. Presumably, they are tracking IP addresses. The systems include MSI N450GTS Cyclone Power Edition video card with the MSI H55M-E33 mainboard in the first system run at entry pre-set. The second system is an MSI N460GTX Hawk video card with MSI P55-GD85 mainboard. The final system is an MSI N480GTX Lightening with an MSI Big Bang- XPower mainboard.

Sony Ericsson CEO points to February reveal - possible PlayStation Phone news?
Without actually saying the words - Sony is pointing toward some news regarding the hopefully upcoming PlayStation Phone.

CEO Bert Nordberg says "There's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere". Also adding that a new Sony Ericsson product would be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February.
He also added "I haven't dug into that history, but the future might be brighter," he also suggested that gaming might be the ticket that SE need to diversify it's offerings, ending with "Sony is of course a very strong brand, and why shouldn't we use that?"
If that's not a hint, then I don't know what is!

Quick Review: dexim: iPhone Charging in Style

Love or hate Apple, no one can deny just how hot iAnything items are these days. The big problem is that with so many companies offering accessories for your iDevices, it can take a bit of time to make your way through the rubbish before you get to something that stands out and deserves to be attached to your device.
dexim state on their website that their aim is to focus on unique and user friendly iPhone and iPod devices, which really for the most part explains what the company is about, except that they also do iPad accessories. They just haven’t seemed to have updated the “About Us” page yet.
IÂ’m one of those people who doesnÂ’t really like Apple, hates iTunes, but loves his iPad and iPhone. WeÂ’ve got three dexim products with us today and the focus is ultimately one thing; keeping your phone last as long as possible without the need to plug it into a computer or wall power connector.
The Audio Car Mount Charging Holder at $54.90 is fairly self-explanatory; itÂ’s a charger thatÂ’s designed for your car. The charger isnÂ’t just a cable, though; instead weÂ’ve got a full cradle here that carries with it an AUX out port.

Inside the package weÂ’ve got a few items along with the cradle itself. Apart from just the standard iPhone 4 mount, weÂ’ve also got another mount that can be interchanged with the installed one to support the iPhone 3G / 3GS. Along with that weÂ’ve got a couple of cables; the first is your standard cigarette lighter plug that helps keep power to your iPhone via the mount, while the other is a 1.3m AUX cable that goes out of the cradle and into your cars AUX In; assuming itÂ’s got one.
The quality of the device is great and weÂ’ve got a little bit of wiggle room for a case to be used in conjunction with it. On the package dexim state that the iPhone 4 will fit in without any issues using the original Apple bumper and this is something worth noting, because thereÂ’s nothing worse than getting an accessory that requires you to uninstall your cover every time you use it.

If youÂ’re looking for a holder to use in the car for when you use your phone as a GPS and your car doesnÂ’t have AUX In, I wouldnÂ’t be worried. The design of the dexim Audio Car Mount Charging Holder doesnÂ’t intrude the built in speaker and turn by turn navigation continues to be heard clearly.
Moving up in price, but aimed to be used in a different area is the P-Flip Foldable Power Dock, and at $69.90 itÂ’s not a cheap accessory. With a built in 2000mAh Lithium Polymer Battery, the idea behind the device is to keep your iPhone 4, 3G or 3GS running for longer than just the standard battery with as much as 40 hours of extra time for music listening, 10 hours for games and video or 6 hours of talk time.

Apart from the P-Flip itself, youÂ’ve also got a USB cable that is used to charge the built in battery along with an iPhone 4 cover and Anti-Glare screen protector. dexim also provide a free download of PFlip Clock via the App Store which is a clock application that can be used in conjunction with the P-Flip.

You can then have your phone in the P-Flip with the App open and use it as a clock. You also donÂ’t have to worry about the battery going dead flat while asleep due to the P-Flip offering charge via that 2000mAh battery.
If youÂ’re worried about the device itself also taking up another USB port on your computer, you donÂ’t need to be as you can replace your current iPhoneÂ’s white cable with this one and when the cableÂ’s connected to the P-Flip and your phone is inserted in it, the phone will sync with iTunes like it normally would if you were using the standard white cable. YouÂ’ve got the added bonus that the foot print is smaller than having your phone lay down, which is nice if desk space is a little cramped. In the event you donÂ’t want the P-Flip to charge your phone you can switch off by a small button at the back and just use it as a dock for your desk.
The last accessory weÂ’re looking at is the Supercharged Leather Power Case and at $79.90 itÂ’s the most expensive accessory out of the pile weÂ’re looking at today. While youÂ’ve got one charger for the car and one for your home and office, the Supercharged Leather Power Case is for when youÂ’re on the move.

With the same 2000mAh battery seen in the P-Flip, youÂ’ve got the same possible extension on hours ranging from 6 to 40 hours depending on what youÂ’re doing. What youÂ’ve got here is ultimately an iPhone 4 case that is going to give your phone a serious amount of extra power. The quality of the case is beautiful and youÂ’ve got that great leather smell and look.

The biggest issue with the case is the fact that itÂ’s quite bulky, which is of course the cost of having all that extra battery power on hand. And while it might take your hand a little to get used to, the extra bulkiness that your iPhone 4 now has is not at all uncomfortable, nor any harder to use.

Looking inside, it does seem like the speaker and microphone at the bottom of your iPhone 4 is covered, but fortunately dexim has used their head and offered some space between these two, so speaking and hearing in speaker mode isnÂ’t impaired.
Apart from the case thereÂ’s little in the package with the only other stand out really being a USB cable that is used to charge the caseÂ’s battery. Like the P-Flip, if your phoneÂ’s in the case and you connect the USB cable up, your phone will sync with iTunes like it would with the normal white cable.
Something that has to be noted, though, is that the USB cables for the P-Flip and Supercharged Case are slightly different, so charging each device requires its included cable, as a slightly different header on each cable canÂ’t be used on both devices.
The three dexim accessories weÂ’re looking at all carry two things in common; theyÂ’re not cheap, but theyÂ’re all fantastic quality. If youÂ’re looking for something a lot better than that $9.99 mount you picked up from eBay, these are the kinds of accessories you should be looking at. Covering work to the car and everything in between, the chance is that one of these chargers weÂ’re looking at today will suit your situation!

Nexus FLC-3000 R2 Universal CPU Cooler

Introduction
I took a look back to see just how long ago it had been since we took a look at the original FLC-3000, and to my surprise, it had been quite some time. In fact, it was one of the first coolers I reviewed for TweakTown, so that might be why I was a little fuzzy on the January of 2009 date. From what I can recall going back over the review, the cooler performed pretty good in its day, but by todayÂ’s standards, and much warmer processors, the FLC-3000 needed some love to keep pace. So Nexus went to the drawing board and rehashed an older work horse to compete with the demand.
Most of the aspects of the FLC-3000 R2 are what you remember. Three sections of fins slid onto heatpipes that run at a 30° angle. The principle behind this concept is a three-pronged attack. It offers more surface area in the fins than most coolers that blow air directly at the CPU, and this should help produce much better results than a stock cooler. The second benefit is the lack of girth of the FLC-3000, so if you have tight confines for a CPU cooler, this can step in to help. The third reason for the angular design is to still allow air to blow onto the power management of the motherboard to help keep all of the components cool.
Along with keeping the basic form of the FLC-3000, the R2 does bring some changes. For one, the mounting hardware has been modified and simplified to use with both AMD and Intel processors. The second and most drastic change comes in the redesigned base and the implementation of HOC technology. Gone is the polished copper base, and left in its place are four heat pipes that make “Heat pipe On Core” contact with the processor. Enough talking about the changes already! I’m sure you are as ready as I am to see these changes and put them to the test.

Smooth Creations “Goliath” Core i7-980X Custom Gaming PC

Introduction
Based in White City, Oregon, Smooth Creations sells built-to-order gaming PCs and is known for its high-quality custom paint jobs. Last month we reviewed the HD 5970-equipped, Phenom X6-based, “Battlefield: Bad Company 2” custom gaming rig.
This month we review that system’s big brother; the aptly named “Goliath.”
LetÂ’s take a look!
Specifications, Pricing and Availability

All Smooth Creations systems are built-to-order and available only through Smoothcreations.com. The company is, in the full sense of the term, a custom builder. Although the companyÂ’s website showcases a few models and offers several options on the configuration pages, the company seems to prefer you call them up and talk to one of their reps to discuss options for a new system. One of the main selling points for the companyÂ’s systems is the free custom case paint, and it probably is in the customerÂ’s best interest to discuss what is and isnÂ’t feasible in that regard with an actual person.
The website also emphasizes that Smooth Creations chassisÂ’ are meant to last well beyond a single hardware-obsolescence cycle. When youÂ’re ready for a new computer, send your chassis back to the company for a free interior cleaning and a buff and polish of the artwork. Then theyÂ’ll build a new system to your specs in your existing chassis.
While that might at first seem a bit gimmicky, take a look at the custom chassisÂ’ Smooth Creations offers, and youÂ’ll soon recognize that they are works of art unto themselves. These arenÂ’t just off-the-shelf cases with a coat of auto paint on them. TheyÂ’re functional art designed by an in-house team of artists and engineers.
Check out Smooth CreationsÂ’ Youtube channel as well as its web gallery for a sampling of various chassis art. We particularly liked this one.
The Goliath contains some of the best hardware available on the market today. Built on an ASUS Rampage III x58 LGA 1366 motherboard, the builder overclocked the Intel i7 980 processor from its stock speed of 3.33GHz all the way up to 4.5GHz. An elaborate liquid cooling scheme comprised of parts from Koolance and Danger Den makes such extreme overclocking possible. A pair of AMD HD 5970 video cards (4 GPUs total) in CrossfireX provides some serious framerates.
The rest of the hardware compliment includes 12GB of Corsair Dominator GT 2000MHz RAM, a Lite-On Blu-ray burner, and a 1200 watt(!) Corsair AX power supply. An Aerocool Power Panel mounted on the front of the chassis displays component temperatures and provides controls for the systemÂ’s numerous cooling fans. The hard drives consist of two 256GB Western Digital Silicon Edge SSDs in RAID 0 and two 2TB Western Digital Caviar Green 7200RPM drives in RAID 1.
For an in-depth discussion of the different RAID configurations, see here. Basically, RAID 0 provides faster read/write times by having two separate disks act as one, allowing data to be read/written in parallel at each disk’s maximum rate, and splitting the data between the pair. RAID 1 is your garden-variety data mirroring for protection in case one of the drives fail, hence the acronym for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. We’ll talk more about the benefits of this configuration in the “General Usage” section of the review.
As configured, this system goes for approximately $6990 USD as of November 2010.

Power-saving technologies
GPU Boost: MSI's GPU Boost technology allows the FX610MX to switch between the discrete graphics card and the graphics modes. So when you're processing heavy-load graphics applications, one touch of the hot key switches you over to the discrete graphics card mode for more powerful graphics processing. For word processing and browsing the Internet, you can cut over to the power-sipping integrated graphics chip mode.
ECO Engine: The FX610MX also features MSI’s exclusive ECO engine power saving technology which allows you to select from among five power management levels—Video Game, Film, Presentation, Word Processing, and Turbo Battery, to automatically adjust display brightness, on/off switch, sleep mode, and processor performance settings, maximizing battery flexibility and use per charge.

WhatÂ’s more, the center is graced with a shimmering MSI logo and the wrist placement areas with a raised diamond texture to enhance comfort of use.
The zenith of precision technology: Every detail of the FX610MX's body was meticulously crafted by MSI's design team. The power button is encircled by chrome plating which blends wonderfully with the cold, luminescent blue lights above the keyboard. The unmatched chiclet keyboard with its solid touch, the raised multipoint touchpad, and the brush finish of the hotkey zone add further class to the FX610MX.
Latest transfer interface
802.11n high speed wireless and HD720p webcam: The FX610MX comes equipped with an HD720p webcam 802.11 b/g/n high speed wireless, Bluetooth V2.1+EDR module with X3 transfer rate, and a high-performance instant messaging device that allows you to stay in touch with friends and family anywhere in the world.
HDMI: The FX610MX features High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) which transfers up to 5Gb of video bandwidth for clear, true-to-life image quality to show HD images on large-screen televisions. Now, sharing exciting high-quality multimedia on large-screen devices, like projectors and digital TVs is easier than ever.
eSATA high speed transfer interface: MSI's FX610MX combines eSATA and USB interfaces into one port, so you can select between USB or eSATA when connecting up with equipment. The eSATA interface, for instance, transfers data at speeds 6.4 times faster than the USB2.0, so using the eSATA interface to connect to an external hard drive gives you read rates almost as fast as those of an internal hard drive.
