MSI FX600MX notebook gets switching graphics and more
MSI has pulled the wraps off a new notebook that uses tech to help extend the battery with dual GPUs inside. The tech is the same as what NVIDIA has been offering for a while with Optimus, but goes by MSIs own name in this iteration. MSI called the graphics switching tech GPU Boost technology. The tech allows the machine to change from a power sipping internal GPU to a discrete GPU for more power when needed.

The discrete GPU in this case is the NVIDIA GeForce 310M with 512MB of RAM. The notebook also has a special MSI exclusive anti-scratch, anti-smudge raised totem seal coating. I'm not sure what that means other than the thing has a raised embossed finish on the wrist rest and lid. The notebook also has Cinema Pro technology for the best graphics for movies and video content. The screen of the machine is a 15.6-inch LED backlit 720p resolution unit.

The CPU inside the machine can be an Intel Core i3 or a Core i5 depending on options. The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, and the rig has up to 8GB of RAM. The video output of the machine includes HDMI out and VGA out and a DVD burner is built-in. Other features include an eSATA port, USB 2.0 ports, and a memory card reader. WiFi and Bluetooth are also integrated along with a HD resolution webcam and a 6-cell battery. Pricing and availability are unknown.

Download of the Day: Cloud Antivirus 1.3.0
Our Download of the Day today is Cloud Antivirus 1.3.0.
Panda Cloud Antivirus protects you while you browse, play or work and you won't even notice it. It is extremely light as all the work is done in the cloud.

Panda Cloud Antivirus provides you with the fastest protection against the newest viruses thanks to its cloud-scanning from PandaLabs' servers.

Panda Cloud Antivirus is truly install and forget. Don't worry about updates, configuration or complicated decisions ever again.

The latest version includes the following changes:

Changes in Version 1.3.0

# Main new features -
* Malicious Web & URL Filtering - This feature blocks websites that push malware, exploits and drive-by downloads. It is available both in Free and in Pro Editions and is installed by the toolbar. Unlike similar solutions, this web filtering works at a low level so it works under all browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc. For those of you that didnÂ’t install the toolbar but would like to install the Web & URL Filtering, you can download it from here and install it manually.
* Unified Recycle Bin and Quarantine - Previously the Recycle Bin handled suspicious detections and the Quarantine handled deleted malware detections. This has been unified into a new Recycle Bin for ease of management. This is included in both Free and Pro Editions.
* Automatic and transparent upgrades to new product versions - previously only available in the Pro Edition, this is now available in the Free Edition as well. All users of Free Editions versions 1.1.0, 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 will automatically and transparently upgrade to the new 1.3. See notes below for the upgrade schedule.
* No more nagging advertising - After listening to many of you we have decided to turn off the nagging advertising popups prompting to upgrade to Pro Edition. If you want to support Panda Cloud Antivirus and wish to get the Pro Edition, you can do so from here, but we wonÂ’t bug you anymore from the popups.
* Hot updating of behavioral blocking rules - In order to increase protection on the fly against new vulnerabilities and attacks and to fix false positives, hot updating of behavioural blocking rules allows faster response time in both the Free and Pro Editions.
* Immediate notifications of virus detections - Previously if Panda Cloud Antivirus encountered multiple viruses, it would delay its traybar notification and show them grouped. This behaviour has been changed so that the notifications are shown immediately.
* Suspicious detection counter - Under the statistics window thereÂ’s some new counters for the different types of heuristics and behavioural detections.
* New versioning format - Unified versioning format in GUI and other parts of the program.

# Many bugfixes :
– Fixed issue with Windows 7 Start menu slow-down.
– Fixed Panda traybar icon disappearing.
– Fixed “you are not connected to the Internet” message when there is connection.
– Fixed issue when Free Edition users can activate behavioural analysis.
– Fixed slow-down and conflicts while playing Allods Online and AION.
– Fixed cloud-response time configuration which defaults to 30 seconds.
– Fixed constant accesses to the floppy disk drive.
– Fixed BSOD issue after install.

The Facebook phone - is it finally coming out?
It has been a long-standing rumor - a Facebook branded phone... well, Facebook has invited press to it's Palo Alto HQ in the US on Wednesday to supposedly unveil some big mobile news. Speculation on this, is of course Facebook will finally release a Facebook-branded smartphone.

Even some previously top of the mountain mobile King's like Nokia and Sony Ericsson are struggling to keep customers, or release something that stays in the headlines like Apple, Google or Microsoft and their respective phones, or mobile OS's - Facebook is a name big enough in the world to actually do this.

Keep in mind, according to Australian telco's, in Australia alone Facebook could account for up to 80 percent of web traffic on Aussie networks. With Facebook saying they have 150 million of their users accessing their accounts through phones - this is a huge, huge deal.

Although Facebook is considered an "essential" experience on a smartphone, not one of the current incarnations on Android, or iOS "feel" 100% right. One does things better than the other, but then fails at something the former does really well. With a Facebook-orientated phone, this could soon well change.

Could this be why Facebook are holding off on polishing the experience on other handsets? Because they're waiting for a big release of their own? Not long until we find out!

Intel's X25-M G3 SSD has been spotted, tested
Intel's new G3 SSD has been spotted - amongst the newer, younger SandForce-based SSD's - it's getting harder to know "which one is best".

Intel didn't take long to punch back, it has polished it's X25 SSD and shrunk it to 25nm as a follow-up to it's G2 release, touted as the "Postville Refresh". Strangely - the G3 part was pouched from an eBay equivalent in China - someone has of course purchased it and ran benchmarks on it.

Read speed was tested up to 218MB/s, which is below the Intel-promised 250MB/s. Write speed, however, posted 167.4MB/s, near the official 170MB/s.

Of course it could be fake (like your Louis Vuitton handbag you may have purchased from the same site) - but if it is indeed fake, you won't be complaining about it's performance anytime soon.

Logitech look up at the sun, look back down and a Solar keyboard is born
Logitech are going where no [wo]man have gone before... Solar powered keyboard territory.

In the land of practicality - this might be useful, but here we go: It's an ultra-slim 1/3-inch profile, with a full slate of laptop-style chiclet keys, the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 has ambient light solar panels install on the top of either side, which means you should never have to plug it in for charge - interesting.

Logitech are claiming, that you could theoretically run the keyboard, in a desk drawer and it would last for 3 months because of it's low-power integrated circuitry. But, we all know Nuclear Man from Superman IV would pass out in an Elevator if the doors were shut - so at least it's not as useless as him.

It's supposed to feel great when typing on it - but of course the Solar powered bit is the most important to someone who would be interested in this, it may be a gimmick - but Apple themselves have talked about this type of stuff for a while now, just imagine a solar powered phone, or notebook...

Twitter user base expands by 30 million users in the past 2 months.
Wow. In September, Twitter had 145 million registered users - as of this month it has expanded out to 175 million registered users, an increase of 30 million in just 2 months - not to count, it has added a total of 70 million users since April.

It's impressive - considering Twitter had 58 million users in 2009 and 503, 000 users in 2007 - the growth is great. Twitter could be celebrating New Years with 200 million users.

Where's this growth coming from?

The new twitter.com experience - which was announced in September, as well as new initiatives like allowing users to watch and Tweet President Obama's recent town hall meeting from twitter.com would lead people to believe that the growth is the constant changing platform that Twitter is.

Twitter co-founder, Evan Williams not only revealed the above stats of Twitter growth - but also said it has grown around 100% this year on average, with 370, 000 new users signing up to Twitter every day.

NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today the new 19" MultiSync EA192M and 20" widescreen MultiSync E201W to the desktop product lineup.

Compared to previous generations of NEC's desktop LCD monitors, the LED backlight technology in both the MultiSync EA192M and E201W allows less greenhouse gas emissions and reduces power consumption and heat radiation. These new LED-backlit models also use more recycled plastics, less hazardous materials and are mercury-free, a significant advantage when compared to conventional CCFL-backlit LCD monitors.

The ambient light sensor, which automatically adjusts the brightness to the optimal setting depending on ambient lighting, screen content or both, has been added to the MultiSync EA192M and E201W to further minimize power consumption. DisplayPort connectivity is also implemented on both models, providing expanded connectivity, along with VGA and DVI-D.

The 20" widescreen MultiSync E201W is a new size available as part of the MultiSync E Series. It features a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1600 x 900 native resolution. The 19" MultiSync EA192M features a 5:4 aspect ratio, 1280 x 1024 native resolution and has long been a highly desirable size for enterprise businesses. Its integrated down-firing speakers and headphone jack enables business conferencing. Both models feature a fully adjustable ergonomic stand, including 110mm height-adjust, pivot, tilt and swivel capabilities.

"NEC is introducing more LED-backlit LCD desktop monitors to help protect the environment," said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. "Our goal is to help our customers lower their total cost of ownership throughout the life of the display and provide features that make daily operations simpler and more productive."

Below is a partial list of features included in the MultiSync EA192M and E201W:

• LED backlight technology
• 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
• Fully ergonomic adjustable stand (110mm height-adjust, tilt, swivel and pivot)
• Expanded connectivity with DisplayPort
• Integrated down-firing speakers (EA192M)

• Carbon footprint and cost meter allow users to quickly and easily track the savings of green gas emissions
• Compliant with the newest standards, such as ENERGY STAR 5.0 and TCO 5.0
• EPEAT Silver

The MultiSync EA192M and E201W will be available in November 2010 at an estimated street price of $239 and $199, respectively. Both ship with a 3-year parts and labor limited warranty.

Archronix to Build the World's Most Advanced FPGAs on Intel 22 nm Technology
Achronix Semiconductor Corp. today announced strategic access to Intel CorporationÂ’s 22 nanometer (nm) process technology, and plans to develop the most advanced Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).

The Achronix Speedster22i FPGA family will shatter existing limitations of FPGAs, allowing cost effective production of high performance devices over 2.5M LUTs in size, equivalent to an ASIC of over 20 million gates.

Taking advantage of the performance and power savings of IntelÂ’s 22nm process technology, Speedster22i will also extend the boundaries of FPGA speed and power efficiency, enabling as much as 300% higher performance, 50% lower power, and 40% lower cost than any other FPGA in any other process technology.

Achronix Speedster22i will be suitable for a wide range of applications in the telecommunication, networking, industrial and consumer markets and will enable emerging applications such as 100G, 400G Ethernet networking and LTE mobile communications. Additionally, Speedster22i will be the first commercial FPGA family that can be manufactured in the United States of America, making it the ideal platform for military and aerospace applications requiring “on shore” silicon.

“Intel’s manufacturing strengths and lead in process technology offers leadership cost, performance and power efficiency benefits, giving Intel and our manufacturing customers such as Achronix an opportunity to design products with superior capabilities,” said Sunit Rikhi, vice president, Technology and Manufacturing Group, Intel.

If YouÂ’ve Got Light, YouÂ’ve Got Power: Logitech Introduces Solar-Powered Keyboard
If YouÂ’ve Got Light, YouÂ’ve Got Power: Logitech Introduces Solar-Powered Keyboard
Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 Powered By Light — Even Indoors

FREMONT, Calif. — Nov. 1, 2010 — Today, Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) introduced the Logitech® Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 — the company’s first light-powered keyboard. The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard powers itself whenever there’s light, even indoors, making battery hassles a thing of the past.

“The keyboard is still the best input device for typing emails and IMs, updating your Facebook™ page or posting responses to your favorite blogs — and the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is the next big innovation in keyboard technology,” said Denis Pavillard, vice president of product marketing for Logitech’s keyboards and desktops. “The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard is powered by light but can work in total darkness for up to three months. Plus, with its PVC-free construction and fully recyclable packaging, it’s designed to minimize its footprint.”

Powered by Light — Even Indoors

To give you hassle-free convenience, the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard powers itself through its integrated solar panel — no power bricks or charging cables needed.
The included solar power app (available for download beginning Nov. 15, 2010 at www.logitech.com/k750.solarapp) features a lux meter to help you get the necessary light, makes it easy to get at-a-glance information about battery levels, and even alerts you when you need more power.

LogitechÂ’s first solar keyboard can be powered by indoor light and stays charged for at least three months in total darkness. Plus an integrated power-indicator light eliminates surprises.

Only 1/3-Inch Thick

But Logitech did much more than bring solar power to the keyboard. At only 1/3-inch thick, the sleek Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard looks good. With its rounded edges and thin profile, this stylish, streamlined keyboard is a joy to hold and behold.

Feel-Good Typing

The low-profile keyboard features Logitech Incurve keys™. Using a concave design, Incurve keys support the shape of your fingertips, while helping guide your fingers to the right keys. In addition, the soft, rounded edges make it easy for your fingers to glide from key to key.

Powerful, Reliable Wireless Connection with Logitech Unifying Technology

The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 offers Logitech Advanced 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity, keeping you connected with virtually no delays or dropouts, so you get all the benefits of a cord, with the convenience of wireless. Logitech Advanced 2.4 wireless also includes 128-bit AES encryption with the keyboard — one of the highest levels of security available.

Plus, the tiny Logitech® Unifying receiver is small enough to stay in your laptop, so there’s no need to unplug it when you move around. And you can easily add up to six Logitech Unifying and Unifying-ready mice and keyboards — without the hassle of multiple USB receivers.

Pricing and Availability

The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in November 2010 for a suggested retail price of $79.99 (U.S.). To learn more about the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 please visit www.logitech.com or our blog for more information.
