Super Talent Producing SSD with Two Interfaces
Super Talent began shipments late last week of its new UltraDrive MX, which OCC first talked about back in July. This SSD is unique in that it features two interfaces to connect to your PC. It will feature the standard 3Gbps SATA connector, and also includes a mini USB connection. Super Talent did this to allow users to clone an existing drive using the USB connection and then replace that drive, which is probably slower. The company believes that this will help users to transition from mechanical hard drives to solid state. However, tech savvy users could already accomplish this through eSATA or even plugging the drive in internally. The drives will feature capacities of 60GB, 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB and will have 64MB of cache. The JMicron 616 controller will power the drives to read and write speeds up to 250MB/s and 180MB/s, respectively. Pricing is currently unknown, but the 480GB model is rumored to cost $1,159.99.
