Blekko search engine uses human interventions
A new player has entered the web search arena and it uses large-scale human curation to set itself apart from the competition. The new engine called Blekko features a 3 billion page web crawl and combines proprietary algorithms as well as user-made slashtags to deliver relevant results. A slashtag is a user-defined set of sites organized around a topic and is the first result pool tapped by Blekko. Using slashtags is supposed to cut out spammers, aggregators and content farms who don't actually have the results people need.

Logitech makes solar powered wireless keyboard
Logitech tonight unveiled what seems to be a first entirely solar-powered computer keyboard. The K750 has two solar panels that collect and store energy in a battery that can power the keyboard for up to four months in complete darkness. Unlike most solar-powered devices, however, it can charge from indoor lighting and may never run out of energy for the lifetime of the computer.

Apple says USB 3.0 isn't ready yet, blames Intel
Apple's Steve Jobs revealed that USB 3.0 wasn't ready for Macs at the present time, mostly because Intel wasn't putting its weight behind the technology. There's no support from Intel , Jobs said. The technology has had relatively timid adoption so far. A substantial number of major PC manufacturers do support USB 3.0, but usually only on high-end models and in many cases only with one or two ports using the faster speeds. Despite having pioneered USB, Intel hasn't produced a chipset of its own capable of supporting USB 3.0 and has left most using third-party controller chips from NEC and others that won't necessarily work in all configurations.

Microsoft shifts from Silverlight to HTML5
Microsoft server president Bob Muglia confirmed a broader shift at the company away from Silverlight on the web and towards HTML5. Silverlight was now primarily the development platform for Windows Phone 7, but more cross-platform efforts would rely on the more universal standard. Muglia stressed that Silverlight would still run on Macs and (indirectly) Linux systems, but HTML5 was the only guarantee of support for the iPhone and Pad.
