In the recent past I took a look at the Seagate GoFlex Portable 500GB and walked away impressed. It had a decent power curve, with a killer feature: an upgradeable interface; but did have a few minor issues. It is for this reason when Seagate asked Everything USB to review their latest USB 3.0 iteration, the FreeAgent GoFlex Portable 1.5TB, that I said yes. Has Seagate worked out the couple minor bugs that kept the GoFlex Portable line from being perfect? Read on my full review to find out.

Intel Confirms USB 3.0 on Chief River Notebook Platform

Notebooks running on Huron River platform won't be ready until a few months into 2011. Yet Intel has already revealed plans for the next big platform, code-named Chief River. What's so special about the Chief River is that it will start supporting 22nm Ivy Bridge processors and most importantly, USB 3.0 natively. Intel traditionally showcases their PC strategy during CES, and since the chipzilla will be busy demoing the Huron River platform, Chief River will have to wait until 2012. USB 3.0 will possibly face another tough year ahead. Granted, there isn't a shortage of USB 3.0 controllers with Renesas, Texas Instrument, Fresco Logic and others all shipping their own USB 3.0 host solutions in volume by next year. It's just that there aren't enough choices for USB 3.0 peripherals. Innovations won't happen in any significant extent until manufacturers know for sure USB 3.0 will become mainstream. In related news, MacBooks will surely go SuperSpeed in 2012 when Cupertino decides to move forward with Chief River.
