Super Talent offers super affordable USB 3.0 Flash Drives
USB 3.0 has been steadily seeing a decline in price to make it more accessible to the average user, and Super Talent is breaking down the price barriers with their new line of flash drives. Their new Express Duo line of USB 3.0 Flash Drives will offer an 8 GB drive for $14 USD, and a 16GB version for $29.

“The USB 3.0 Express DUO is perhaps our most exciting USB 3.0 flash drive to date. There’s simply really no reason to buy a USB 2.0 flash drive anymore,” stated CH Lee, COO of SuperTalent. It’s hard to argue with this as USB 3.0 offers double to triple the real world transfer speeds of USB 2.0 and you’d be hard pressed to find a high quality USB 2.0 drive at these prices. Look for these to hit retail around November 11th.

Android platform may become Special Ops tool
It looks like even the U.S. Government is on board with Android. The United States Special Operations Command has nailed down Android as the platform of choice to produce a fleet of devices for their entire force. Android will reportedly be the base platform for the next generation of the Tactical Situational Awareness Application Suite, or TactSA.

This set of tools is available to all special ops member and includes communications, mapping, and whiteboard tools to use in the field. The open-source ideals of the Android platform makes sense for government programs since they can tweak it to their specifications, although it will probably look nothing like the Android we know and love once theyÂ’re done with it. No word yet on whether Angry Birds will be used as a strategic exercise.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX580 to launch in under 4 weeks?
Well! This is turning into quite the fight between the GPU titans, NVIDIA and AMD.
NVIDIA have had information slowly leaking out about their upcoming GF110-based GPU, the GeForce GTX580 for a few weeks now - but the specs and information are starting to get a bit more precise, instead of guesstimates.

For nearly 6 months now, the GTX480 has been the single fastest [single] GPU available - yes the Radeon 5970 is faster, but it's a dual GPU design. AMD had the market for Q4 2009 and Q1 2010, but NVIDIA have at least been able to claim that victory amongst the sour grapes of the card (power, heat, noise, delays, etc).

AMD have been hoping to counter that with the 6970 - but NVIDIA is looking to be right there at the same time with a competing GPU.

The GTX580 builds on an optimized circuit called the GF110 (with the 480 being the GF100). NVIDIA has changed it's target with the Fermi architecture from launch - it was first targetted toward servers and the like, but the bloat associated with the GPGPU parts on the GPU caused it to draw more power, which in turn creates more heat which in turn requires a faster spinning fan to keep quiet - it also takes up valuable space on the 40nm GPU that could be used to make the card faster in games.

This is where the change begins, NVIDIA are now going back to gaming. The GTX580 will make full use of all 512 CUDA cores - by activating the 16 streaming multiprocessor clusters (SM units) - which was cut from the 480. By activating all 16 SM units, the GTX580 will also get access to more texture units and ROPs.

The 480 has 3 billion transistors - the target toward gaming can lead NVIDIA to cut as many as 300 million transistors from the GPU - it will not be as efficient in GPGPU applications, but there are only a few users (compared to the many gamers and benchers) who care for that.

Now, onto more important things - specs, here is a chart of what we can expect:

We can see increased frequencies, obviously the mentioned CUDA cores, it's stronger in bandwidth and still retains it's 384bit memory bus. This is made possible through a more matured circuit manufacturing - which has allowed NVIDIA to lower power consumption of the GF100 by 10 - 15% without any physical changes.

It's looking to be some competition to AMD, but are simple changes enough? Will it still require SLI for Surround Vision? Will it still draw more power than the stated power consumption numbers, ala GTX480? Whatever happens - we are ALL in for the GPU fight of our lives, the end users wins in this fight always.

The best bit? It's due before the end of November - as is the 69x0 range from AMD.

3G and WiFi now at the summit of Mount Everest
ItÂ’s almost getting to the point that you canÂ’t go anywhere in the world without being connected. Ncell, a joint venture between the Swedish telecom company TeliaSonera and some private investors, has installed a 3G and WiFi capable GSM network base station at the base of Mount Everest.

Long famous as the highest point in the world, the summit of Mount Everest no longer requires a satellite phone to make a call. Ncell tested the station by making the worldÂ’s highest video call at 17,388 feet and has confirmed the network is working at the summit. Ncell also plans to have 90% of NepalÂ’s population covered by the end of next year. Now all your Twitter followers and Facebook friends will be able to know youÂ’ve completed your climb of Mount Everest the second you reach the top. Hooray?

ASUS with several tablets on the horizon
ItÂ’s no secret that the tablet market is looking to get pretty saturated in the next few months, and ASUS is looking to get their piece of the pie with several offerings of their own. They have tablets in four form factors looking to start launching in December.

The big boy of the group is a 12 inch tablet that will run Windows on an Intel chipset. There will be two seven inch models, one sporting WiFi and the other with “3.5G” and phone capabilities. A pair of nine inch models are also on the horizon, one with the similar Intel/Windows setup as the twelve incher with the other Tegra 2 model running Android. A ten inch EeePad has been spotted in the wild as well. All in all, it looks like ASUS may have a tablet for anyone when these bad boys start hitting shelves.

Swedish mobile carrier wires summit of Mount Everest for 3G
I'm not sure why it is that in my area I canÂ’t seem to get a reliable 3G connection with AT&T on my iPhone. The connection drops in and out of 3G and will go from one bar to full bars depending on how I hold my head and what time of day it is. Anyone with a similar problem knows how frustrating it can be. My 3G connection might be spotty here in Texas and AT&T may drive me crazy, but folks at the top of Mount Everest can now get full 3G connectivity for voice and data.

A Swedish telecom company called TeliaSonera has wired up a nearby village called Gorakshep that is in the Everest region. The 3G base station near the city has the oomph it needs to shoot a signal to the 17,000-foot peak of Everest. The system has enough bandwidth that a video call was made from a base camp at Mount Everest.

Interestingly the same wireless carrier has the world's lowest 3G station at 4,595 feet below sea level inside a European mine. The 3G service reaches to the top of Everest so now people, can Tweet about their summit adventure or beg for help in an emergency. The new connectivity means that climbers won't have to depend on satellite phones in an emergency. The downside is sherpas will now have to deal with the constant ding of text messages during their climb.

Harman Kardon shows off HKTS 60 home theater in a box speaker system
Home theater in a box systems have been around for a long time and they tend to put all of the stuff you need in one package so you donÂ’t have to guess at what to buy for a nice home theater system. Not all home theater in a box systems are created equal though, some include cables, the Blu-ray player and speakers while others only have speakers.

Harman Kardon has announced a new home theater in a box system called the HKTS 60 that offers speakers only. The company is well known for its line of speakers and has been selling gear for a long time for computer users and audiophiles, plus it has sound systems in some cars and trucks as well. The HKTS 60 system features a powered 8-inch sub with 200W of power, four identical 2.5-inch dual-driver satellites, and matching center channel speaker.

This particular system lacks the amp and other things you will need to complete the system. The speakers are all you get for your $1199 making this high-end system for the folks with a larger budget. “We have always been committed to designing and engineering products that bring out the most immersive entertainment and music experiences for the home in the most convenient of ways,” said Christopher M. Dragon, director of Consumer and Field Marketing, HARMAN Consumer, Inc. “The HKTS 60 – the newest of its kind in the HKTS family – is no different.”

ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air ships
Once up on a time I bought a MacBook and used it for a few weeks before deciding, I was a Windows man through and through and selling the thing on eBay for more than I paid proving that some fan boys will pay anything to win an auction. I had the Zagg invisibleSHIELD film on that MacBook to keep it from getting all scratched up and I use the film on my iPhone as well.

The stuff is really cool because it's clear, you canÂ’t really even tell it's on the notebook or your smartphone if you do a good job with the install. The film is also tough, it's nearly impossible to cut the stuff, even purposefully with a knife. The film Zagg uses was designed to protect helicopter rotor blades for the military.

Zagg has announced that geeks that bought one of the new and undeniably sexy MacBook air notebooks that debuted recently can now get the protective film sized specifically to fit those machines. The film starts at about $60 and is ready to ship right now. Installation is easy enough and uses a wet process and the film includes a squeegee and the liquid for install.

BitFenix introduces its new fans and accessories to us on video
Earlier today we visited the BitFenix offices here in Taipei and got acquainted with some of its new case fans and accessories for its range of computer cases.
First up David introduced us to their full range of new Spectre case fans. The fluid dynamic bearing fans come in either black or white and in a range of sizes (12cm - 52 CFM and 18 dB-A, 14cm - 60 CFM and 18 dB-A, 20cm - 65 CFM and 19 dB-A and 23cm - 115 CFM and 20 dB-A) for your cooling needs. There is the standard Spectre that comes in black or white and then there is the Spectre LED that just comes in black with four LEDs if I recall correctly. LED fan colors up for grabs are green, blue, orange, white and red.

Next on the agenda and kind of linked in with the BitFenix fans is the Hydra, which is a LED fan controller. This nifty little black device allows you to hook in up to 9 Spectre LED fans and adjust the intensity of the LEDs on the fans.

Following on in the video above we finished off with the S2, which is a cool little security device that prevents people stealing your expensive cabled peripherals such as mouse and keyboard. It simply mounts on the back of your case by way of a magnetic and padlock and you run your cables through the S2 to prevent theft.

Nexus Two spotted?
Has the Nexus Two been spotted? There has been some fluff online about it, such as:
British publication "City A.M." saying that the Nexus Two is a Carphone Warehouse exclusive and will be released in time for the holidays - and might not be made by Samsung. Android and Me are convinced it will be a Samsung - and will be announced at it's November 8th press conference, will ship with Android 2.3 and will be available on multiple carriers.

Then, we have Google CEO Eric Schmidt saying back in July that there will be no Nexus One successor, period:

"The idea a year and a half ago was to do the Nexus One to try to move the phone platform hardware business forward. It clearly did. It was so successful, we didn't have to do a second one."

Gizmodo has reported that "a friend of [theirs] got to play with it," and they describe it as basically a Samsung Galaxy S with a front-facing camera and a stock build of Gingerbread that's still "really buggy."

Reference GeForce GTX580 pics!
The first pictures of NVIDIA's next GPU are leaking out - here we can see the GeForce GTX580, the successor to the GTX480.

From what we can see - the cooler looks virtually untouched - which can lead us to believe either NVIDIA have fine-tuned the Fermi architecture and reduced power consumption (and thus, heat generated/output). But, this isn't the final stage of the card - the cooler could change.

The GeForce GTX580 is the counter punch to AMD's upcoming Radeon 6970 - which is due for release in late November.

Playing Kinect early triggers XBox Live killing update

Better look out if youÂ’ve got some connections that hooked you up with a Kinect before the November 4th launch. Plugging in the Kinect or a Kinect game triggers an update that will install a new version of the Dashboard that not only doesnÂ’t allow you to play the game, but cuts you off from Xbox Live as well. ThereÂ’s currently not even a fix available, so youÂ’re stuck without online play (or the ability to play with your shiny new Kinect) until Microsoft gets an update out. Better keep that black market Kinect in its box for another week if you fancy being able to play online.

Flash to HTML 5 conversion tool in the works from Adobe
HTML 5 is coming, and Adobe has made it clear that they are doing everything they can to make Flash play as nicely with HTML 5 as possible. At their MAX conference, Adobe gave a live demo of the Flash to HTML 5 conversion tool that they have in the works.

This isnÂ’t the first tool to bridge the gap between Adobe products and HTML 5; there are already plugins available for Illustrator 5 and Dreamweaver CS5. This new tool doesnÂ’t jusr support the animations themselves but the elements inside. This allows the content to be viewed to be viewed on nearly every platform, including the decidedly Flash-unfriendly iPhone and iPad. This would definitely give Flash a leg up on being compatible, albeit indirectly, with platforms like iOS. Check out the demo video after the break.

Samsung Galaxy Tab coming to Sprint and.....U.S. Cellular?
Yep, the Galaxy Tab is going to be everywhere. Just like the Galaxy S phones, SamsungÂ’s making sure that their tablet is going to be in your face just about everywhere. Sprint has announced that the Tab will be hitting their stores on November 14th, but they werenÂ’t even the most surprising carrier announced in the past couple of days.

U.S. Cellular, #6 in the mobile game in the U.S., has also announced that they will carry the Galaxy Tab as well. Most recently in the news for being the first U.S. carrier to get the HTC Desire and then scoring their own Galaxy S phone with the Mesmerize, U.S. Cellular looks to really be trying to step their game up by adding the Tab to their list of goodies. ThereÂ’s no launch date announced or even a shot of their branded Galaxy Tab, but we canÂ’t imagine itÂ’ll be much later than SprintÂ’s launch if they want any share of the holiday market.

Enterprise-focused Droid Pro without camera in the works
Picking phones for enterprise situations can be a bit tricky. If you work in a joint with a lot of high security information and products you donÂ’t want getting out, phones with cameras are a big no no. BlackBerry and Windows Mobile have been the two big dogs in those industries for a while now, but it looks like Motorola is looking to get some Android love into the enterprise sector by releasing a camera-free version of the Motorola Droid Pro.

According to sources at Engadget, "the new Enterprise-focused DROID phone without a camera" coming is indeed the Droid Pro. The Droid Pro (known as the Droid 2 in the U.S.) could be a big hit for business users that donÂ’t have a ton of choices of phones that are work-friendly. All of the Droid ProÂ’s great features would be included, just without the pesky camera to crack down on photo leaks. Government think-tank employees rejoice!

OCZ RevoDrive X2 SSD brings four Sandforce controllers to one PCI-E slot
It looks like OCZ is finding plenty of ways to keep that new Taiwan manufacturing plant plenty busy. OCZ is following up their already speedy RevoDrive PCI-E SSD solution, which hit the market not too long ago, with the RevoDrive X2.

On the surface, you wouldnÂ’t think things had changed much: PCI-E connection, between 100GB and 960GB of storage. Looking under the hood is where you get an idea of the improvements. OCZ has doubled the onboard SandForce-1200 controllers, going from two to four. Onboard RAID 0 gives this drive the ability to hit up to 740MB/s transfer speeds and up to 120,000 IOPS, which is quite an improvement over the 600MB/s speeds of the original RevoDrive. Prices have not been made available yet, but weÂ’re betting itÂ’s gonna be a pretty penny.

EKING S700 is the world's first E-notepad and it has a color screen
Electronic paper screen are on the market in force with several different products being the same basic thing. We have ePaper and eInk for instance that are different flavors of the same tech that offers a black and white image on a screen that uses little power and lacks a backlight. These screens are very common today in devices like eReaders and you can find them on some watches even.

A company called EKING has unveiled a really cool new product called the S700 that claims to be the world's first E-notebook. The device is in a case that looks like a spiral notebook and inside that notebook is a 7-inch digital paper screen. The big difference between this digital paper screen and the ones on devices like the nook or Kindle is that the S700 has color. The screen also support two input methods with resistive touch and electromagnetic induction touch. That means the screen supports navigation with your finger and it recognizes handwriting from a stylus.

The S700 has 3G and WiFi connectivity and can surf the web and check email. Those emails can even be handwritten. When work is done, you can use the device to watch video and play games as well. Other features included a fingerprint security system and a 3MP camera. That camera can take photos of business cards and then put the contact information into the contacts list on the S700. The S700 sounds very interesting and the only issue is that we donÂ’t know the price or if the Chinese gadget will come to the US or other countries.

AppStation kneeboard straps your iPad to a leg
I have seen some strange gear for iPads and iPhones over the years. A new accessory for the iPad called the AppStation looks weird at first glance, but when you think about some of the uses for the device, it's actually pretty cool. The AppStation is aimed at pilots or other users who need to keep an iPad stable and accessible when their hands are busy in a situation where a normal holder won't do the trick.

The AppStation has a Velcro-style strap that holds the iPad holder and iPad to the user's leg near the knee. The iPad holding portion of the AppStation is black polycarbonate material and has a curved back to comfortable fit the leg. The rear of the strand is raised s the screen naturally tilts towards the user. The iPad can easily be inserted and removed from the holder as needed.

The holder also has integrated storage for small items like a Mini Mag Lite flashlight and an iPad stylus. The thing is thin enough to fit in a smallish flight bag or other briefcase. It only comes in black and will fit any version of the iPad according to the maker. The holder is aimed at the pilot who might use the iPad for navigation. However, I think if you fly a lot on commercial aircraft, it might be good for keeping your iPad close while you fly. You can order one right now for $69.95.

ASUS Announces Disk Unlocker, Make Use of HDDs with Over 2 TB Capacity
ASUS Announces Disk Unlocker, Make Use of HDDs with Over 2 TB Capacity
Disk Unlocker is exclusive (patent pending) software from ASUS that overcomes current operating system limitations that prevent a hard disk drive from utilizing more than 2048GB (also known as 2.2TB). This one-click software solution instantly enables the full capacity of the latest generation of high-density hard drives, making vast amounts of storage space available to ASUS motherboard users.

In the early days of computing, users would never have dreamed of needing more than a few megabytes, let alone a few gigabytes worth of data, and as a result, operating system code was written to reflect this way of thinking. Today, with ever-increasing data densities and hard drive capacities now reaching 3TB and beyond, PC users are still saddled with operating systems unable to use the full capacity of hard drives larger than 2048GB. In other words, storage space can remain unused and inaccessible without a motherboard upgrade.

ASUS Disk Unlocker remedies this problem in a quick and easy fashion, opening up the full capacity of hard drives larger than 2048GB. Disk Unlocker is yet another example of ASUSÂ’ deep commitment to innovation for its customers, allowing them to fully realize the potential of their PCs without the need for an awkward operating system upgrade or costly hardware modification.

The Only Free and Instant Solution for PC Users

ASUS Disk Unlocker is a software utility that enables ASUS motherboards, new or old, to access the full capacity of hard drives with capacities larger than 2048GB. ItÂ’s quick to install, requires zero technical knowledge to use, and not only enables current high-capacity hard drives to be fully exploited, but will work with all future hard drive upgrades too.

ASUS Disk Unlocker is offered as a free download from asus.com. Don’t limit your PC to a 2048GB hard drive for the foreseeable future — switch to an ASUS motherboard and realize its full potential today. For more information, visit this page.
