AMD retags Radeons HD 5000 for Russian market
According to CNEWS.ru, AMD has informed Russian system builders that it would start shipping rebranded HD 5000 series cards in the near future. Acer Russia told reporters that Russian PC integrators will soon start selling PCs with rebranded HD 5000 series cards in retail, but the move appears to be limited only to entry-level HD 6000 brands and only the Russian market (for now, at least). Russian PC maker K-Systems will offer three rehashed HD 5000 cards in its systems starting November. The cards are apparently branded HD 6250, HD 6390 and HD 6510. At this point we don't know which HD 5000 series cards they are based on, but we're probably looking at Cedar and Redwood cores.

iPod celebrates ninth birthday
Apple yesterday reached the ninth anniversary of the iPod in the midst of a shifting climate. The MP3 player was first unveiled on October 23, 2001 at a special event on Apple's campus. Early versions were Mac-only, used Firewire 400 to sync and had just 5GB of space, which at the time was enough to hold Apple's well-known 1,000 songs but also cost $399. Today, the least expensive screened iPod, the iPod nano, is just a fraction of the size but holds 2,000 songs, shows photos and integrates FM radio.

NVIDIA accidentally confirmed GeForce GTX 580
NVIDIA has inadvertently confirmed plans for GeForce GTX 580 by briefly posting mention of it on its 3D Vision requirements page yesterday (the info is now pulled off). The mention didn't confirm more than that it would have full support for 3D in Blu-ray and gaming but hinted at a near-term release. The company is expected to ship the GTX 580 in late November or early December.
