Halo: Reach sales generate $200 million in first day
Microsoft has revealed that its latest video game, Halo: Reach (review), has generated $200 million in global sales on its launch day, as first posted by TechFlash. Reach starts at $60, with special editions priced at $80 and $250, while a special Xbox console plus the new version of the game goes for $400.

Android chips away at US BlackBerry, iPhone shares
ComScore has released updated rankings for the US mobile device market, showing that Android has continued its strong growth. Some 234 million Americans aged 13 and up used cell phones during the three months ending in July. Samsung, LG and Motorola were neck and neck in OEM share, with splits of 23.1%, 21.2% and 19.8%, respectively. RIM claimed fourth place with 9%, and Nokia took a 7.8% cut of the US handset market.

Augen has followed up on its dirt cheap Gentouch78 tablet with a new sub-$200 offering. This time, however, it's a 10.2-inch netbook, and it too runs Android 2.1. Officially dubbed the "Genbook108," the little guy sports a 1024x600 pixel display, an 800MHz ARM11 processor, 256MB of system memory, and 2GB of internal storage. There's also built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and an SD/MMC slot that can handle up to 32GB cards.

AMD to distribute drivers over Steam, Catalyst 10.9 released

ATI GPU updates can now be detected and installed directly from within Steam -- a convenience that will affect plenty of users. Valve reports that a whopping 87% of gamers with DirectX 11 cards on Steam are using an ATI product.

Rumor: HTC launching Android 3.0 tablet in Q1 2011
HTC is readying to release an Android tablet, possibly running Android 3.0 (codenamed Gingerbread) in Q1 2011, according to Taiwanese component makers quoted by DigiTimes. Unfortunately, the sources are mum about potential hardware, so there are no details on the exact size or functionality of the new HTC device. We'd expect it to include 3G support though, so that HTC and Google can leverage their carrier relationships.

Google fired employees for breaching user privacy
Google Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) David Barksdale was recently fired for stalking and spying on teenagers through various Google services, according to Gawker. Although the stalking was not sexual in nature, it was still a massive breach of privacy since the employee regularly accessed private user information from Google's systems. Barksdale met the teens at a Seattle technology group in his area, of which he is no longer a part of. Google has confirmed that the 27-year-old was dismissed in July for "breaking internal privacy policies" and that this isn't the first time the search giant has had to fire an employee for breaching user privacy.

OCZ releases next-generation low-voltage DD3 memory
OCZ, one of the more high-end suppliers of advanced memory modules, has released two new series of DDR3 desktop memory with lowered voltage settings: Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) and Extreme-Low Voltage (ELV). Notion Ink Adam on target for late 2010 release
Notion Ink founder Rohan Shravan has posted an update on its upcoming Adam tablet. Arguably one of the most anticipated slate devices, the Adam is on track for a late 2010 release. In fact, the project is supposedly about seven days ahead of schedule and the device should reach FCC certification sooner than expected.
