AMD might stop putting tacky stickers on laptops
Hate it when companies crazy glue half a dozen stickers to your brand new $1,200 laptop? AMD understands. According to a NY Times report, the chipmaker likens it to buying a new luxury car that's plastered with permanent bumper stickers promoting the motor oil, floor mat, and air freshener companies. If you peel them off, the adhesive often leaves behind a residue that can be annoying because it's on the palm rest, meaning your hands touch whatever grime remains.

Toshiba intros StorE TV+ media player, much more
Toshiba's brought all sorts of goodies to IFA this year. We covered the company's Folio 100 Android tablet earlier, but the company has announced a ton of other products. The manufacturer has introduced its new StorE TV+ set-top box with a 2TB HDD and HD media streaming, as well as a new 3D-ready Blu-ray player, the BDX3100KB (PDF). Toshiba is preparing to ship the StorE TV+ to UK customers this month for POUND 200 (roughly $307), while its 3D Blu-ray player will arrive in October for an unknown price.

Dell reclaims second place in global PC shipments
Dell has reclaimed the number two position in global PC shipments, bumping Acer back to third place, according to iSuppli. The Taiwanese manufacturer suffered a sales setback during the second quarter of this year that cut shipments by 6.2% sequentially from 10.9 million units to 10.2 million. Dell also witnessed a decline, though not as drastic. Sales fell 1.2% from 10.7 million PCs to 10.5 million, leaving it with 12.8% of the market next to Acer's 12.4%.

Verizon offers unlimited and 25MB prepaid 3G data plans
Verizon has announced new prepaid data plans for select smartphones and multimedia handsets. The company said its new offerings will allow customers to experience the carrier's full breadth of devices and services without being bound to a contract. Users of either type of phone will be able to pay $30 a month for unlimited 3G data access, while customers with a multimedia phone also have the option of paying $10 per month for 25MB (20 cents per MB overage).

Google releases Chrome 6 with an even simpler UI
Celebrating its second birthday, Google has released the sixth version of its browser. Chrome 6 features numerous changes, including an updated user interface, improved syncing tools with support for web form data and extensions, as well as the obligatory bug fixes and speed gains.

HP teams up with Hynix to develop memristor technology
Computer giant HP today announced a partnership with memory supplier Hynix Semiconductor to co-develop and market memristor technology in the form of Resistive Random Access Memory (ReRAM), a non-volatile memory with lower power consumption and much greater storage capacity than current NAND flash technology found in everything from cell phones to SSDs. It will reportedly also be cheaper to produce and should perform at least 10 times faster.

Toshiba introduces Android-powered Folio 100 tablet
Not wanting to be left out of the party, Toshiba has also announced its entry into the tablet fray at IFA 2010 with the Android-powered Folio 100. The device measures 10.1-inch across and offers a capacitive multi-touch screen sporting a 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution. It is one of the first major shipping products to use Nvidia's Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip, which reportedly provides snappy performance and can handle 1080p playback (over a mini HDMI output) while keeping power draw in check. Battery life is listed at 7 hours of 'normal use' and the whole thing weighs in at just 760 grams.
