(PR) Samsung Unveils First 16GB ‘Very Low Profile’ Module in IBM’s Newest Blade Server
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced today that it will demonstrate for the first time a 16-Gigabyte (GB), very low profile (VLP) memory module at the VM World 2010 in an IBM H22V blade server, running on Intel Xeon™ 5600-series processors.

Based on 4-gigabit (Gb), 40 nanometer (nm)-class DDR3, the new modules use 18 4Gb dual-die packaged (DDP) chips, and operate on 1.35 volts of electrical current. The 16GB 40nm-class DDR3 memory provides a powerful green solution, consuming 70 percent less power than four 4GB DDR3 modules and over 40 percent less than two 8GB modules, in setting a new "standard" for lower power consumption in servers. The module's very low profile (18.75 mm high) allows it to be used in extremely compact blade servers.

Intel Halves Price of Core i7 950, Introduces New Chips
As predicted back in June, Intel has introduced a series of price cuts for a wide range of PC processors. The most notable of these is a 47.6% cut in the price of the Intel Core i7 950 quad-core processor, from US $562 to $294. This heats up competition severely in the $250~$300 bracket with Intel-AMD competition as well as competition among Intel processors of various platforms. In this bracket, you will now find the Core i7 860 priced at $283, Core i7 870 and Core i7 930 at $289; and now Core i7 950 at $294, quite a mix danger-close to each other. If you add AMD to the concoction, the six-core Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition is going for $290. If you're a high-end dual-core fan, Intel has Core i5 670 for you at $299. In addition to this, Intel released some new chips that include Core i3 560 at $138, Pentium Dual Core E6800 at US$86, and Celeron E3500 at $53.

Arctic Intros Accelero Xtreme Plus VGA Cooler, Supports GF100-based Graphics Cards
Arctic Cooling silently introduced the Accelero Xtreme Plus VGA cooler. Built as an extension of the same essential design of the Accelero Xtreme, the Accelero Xtreme Plus supports the latest NVIDIA GF100-based graphics cards, such as GeForce GTX 480, GTX 470, GTX 465. The main heatsink is designed to handle thermal loads of up to 250W. The cooler is also compatible with the mounting plates of older some Accelero models that give it compatibility with other popular GPUs, importantly support for Radeon HD 5000 and GeForce 9/GTS 200 series with the VR001 mounting kit.

Samsung Intros 27-inch Full-HD Monitor with 1 ms Response Time
Samsung Japan recently added to its lineup, a 27-inch full-HD monitor with a blazing-fast response time of 1 ms. The new Samsung P2770FH makes use of a TN film panel with a matte screen. It features a piano black frame. Apart from the 1920 x 1080 pixels native resolution and 1 ms response time, the panel features a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 (70,000:1 DCR), and maximum brightness of 300 cd/m². Display inputs include DVI, HDMI, and D-Sub. Samsung did not give out a price yet, but one can expect it to be on the higher side.

Colorful Unveils GeForce GTX 460 iGame Graphics Card
Colorful has come up with beastly-looking GeForce GTX 460 graphics card, that makes use of a shark-inspired GPU cooler design, coupled with an equally capable VRM design to facilitate a core clock speed of 900 MHz (vs. 675 MHz reference). The Colorful iGame GTX 460 custom-design PCB of the card makes use of a 6+1 phase VRM, with voltage-measure points. With two BIOS EEPROM chips installed, a switch allows users to choose between the two BIOS chips when the system is powered down. Apart from helping maintain two clock and fan profiles, the feature protects against overly-ambitious BIOS modifications by adding some redundancy. Apart from 900 MHz (core), the CUDA cores are clocked at 1800 MHz, and the memory at 1050 MHz (4200 MHz effective).

The cooler makes use of aggressive-looking shroud design that is inspired from shark-fins. Underneath it is a dense aluminum fin array that sits right on top of the GPU. The GPU base has four 8 mm thick heat pipes that make direct contact with the GPU. Two of these heat pipes convey the heat to the main aluminum fin array, and two to a smaller aluminum fin array that is positioned right on top of the VRM area. A backplate decks up the reverse side of the PCB. Colorful will release this card to the Asian market in September.

MSI Readies GeForce GTX 460 1 GB HAWK Graphics Card
MSI is readying its newest non-reference graphics card based on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 GPU, the overclocker-friendly N460GTX HAWK 1 GB. This is MSI's second non-reference design after the N460GTX Cyclone series. It features a beefier VRM that facilitates overclocking close to (or over) 25% of the reference speeds. The card is cooled by MSI's well known Twin-Frozr II GPU cooler. The cooler is claimed by the company to reduce temperatures by as much as 18°C and run 15.7% quieter compared to NVIDIA reference cooler.

Under the hood is a VRM that makes use of a 7+1 phase design with MSI's Solid State Chokes (SSCs), which don't give out high-pitched noise (translating into energy loss) during load. The SSCs are backed by high-C capacitors. The clock speeds out of the box are 780 MHz (core), 1560 MHz (CUDA core), and 900/3600 effective MHz (memory). Like most other 1 GB GTX 460 cards, it features 336 CUDA cores, and a 256-bit wide memory interface. A copy of Assassins' Creed II game is bundled. MSI's N460GTX HAWK will release later this week, priced at €226.

EVGA Intros Affordable X58 SLI3 Motherboard
EVGA released its newest socket LGA1366 motherboard, the EVGA X58 SLI3 (model: 131-GT-E767-TR). This model completes EVGA's lineup of new LGA1366 motherboards that pack USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s support, other models include the EVGA X58 FTW3 and EVGA X58 Classified3. Among the three, the X58 SLI3 is the most affordable, and targets a sub-$200 price point. The model and its overall design are derived from the X58 SLI, but with 2-port USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s controllers.

The LGA1366 socket is powered by a 6-phase VRM, it's wired to six DDR3 DIMM slots for triple-channel memory support. The motherboard supports all released Intel Core i7 LGA1366 processors, including the six-core models, out of the box. Expansion slots include one PCI-Express 2.0 x16, two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x8), two PCI-E x1, and one PCI. 2-way and 3-way SLI are supported. Apart from the six SATA 3 Gb/s ports from the ICH10R southbridge, there are two SATA 6 Gb/s ports (color coded red). Connectivity includes 8-channel HD audio, gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 and a number of USB 2.0 ports. The EVGA X58 SLI3 is listed on the company's store, at US $199.99.

AMD Intros Affordable DP-DVI Active Adapter for Eyefinity Users
AMD rolled out a reference-design DisplayPort to DVI active adapter today, that lets the masses create Eyefinity setups on existing monitors easier. The adapter plugs into full-sized and mini DisplayPort connectors on ATI Radeon graphics cards, and gives out a single-link DVI signal. The conversion between DP to DVI is active, and conserves video quality, as well as other features such as content protection. This is because when Eyefinity-ready graphics cards with DisplayPorts from AMD came to be, some manufacturers sold cheap $10 DP-DVI dongles that pass DVI signals from the DP directly (passive conversion). Such dongles more often don't work, because Radeon GPUs don't give out DVI signals from DP. Active adapters (those which actively convert DP signals to DVI) were sold at the time in upwards of $100.

AMD has managed to bring the price of such active adapters down to $30. There however, is a limitation. The output is a single-link DVI, meaning that it will support digital resolutions only up to 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz (1080p is supported). It shouldn't matter for the target users, because the DisplayPort on ATI Radeon HD 5000 graphics cards conveys only one TMDS link, so even with a DVI dual-link capable adapter, it would only give out single-link output. At least a bulk of the users are covered, at a very affordable price point. AMD will market this adapter directly, and through its growing network of add-in board partners (in bundles with graphics cards, or directly). PowerColor beat AMD to today's announcement, and released PowerColor-branded AMD-reference DP-DVI adapter last week.
