NVIDIA Reveals the Successor to Fermi
At its annual GPU Technology Conference, NVIDIA unveiled a roadmap for its future video cards. This roadmap shows the successor to the current crop of Fermi cards, codenamed Kepler, and even has the successor to that listed as well which is under codename Maxwell. Kepler, the successor to Fermi, will start to go into production by year's end with shipments expected to arrive in 2011. The Kepler cards will be built on the 28nm process and will deliver an estimated three to four times the performance per watt compared to Fermi. Hopefully this means that not only will the Kepler cards outperform the Fermi ones but it will also feature lower operating temps which would be quite welcome. Then in 2013 the successor to those cards will be out under the Maxwell codename. Maxwell is expected to offer a sixteen-fold increase in parallel graphics-based computing as well as the ability to autonomously process content independent of the CPU. Now, these launches are planned to be two years apart but when pressed for comment about NVIDIA launching its new products every two years, CEO Jen-Hsun Huang wouldn't comment. He only stated that there will be a "mid-life kicker" in between each GPU architecture to presumably compete with AMD and help in sales.

Halo: Reach's Co-Op Requires Hard Drive, Microsoft Says it is Temporary
I am sure many of you ran out and bought Halo: Reach, the latest installment in the venerable franchise. I am also sure there are those of you playing this game on one of the new Xbox 360 S models that doesn't have an internal hard drive. Well, it seems if you want to play the co-op mode of Halo: Reach, you need a hard drive for that feature. When you go to start co-op and you don't have a hard drive installed on your console, you are met with a message saying the HDD is required for this game type which is a major disappointment for gamers the world over. However, this problem also plagued Halo: ODST so at least Bungie is persistent in their developing. If you try to add extra memory via a USB flash drive, it still will not work so you are pretty much forced to buy a hard drive. Microsoft did say that it is working on a fix for this issue so hopefully it is only temporary. In the mean time, online multiplayer still works fine so if you can't get your co-op on, maybe hop into a server and take your rage out there.

Announcement of RIM Tablet Could Come Soon
Research in Motion, the Canadian company behind the BlackBerry, could unveil a tablet computer next week in San Francisco at a conference. The tablet will feature an OS developed by QNX Software Systems, and not the new BlackBerry 6 OS. QNX was bought by RIM earlier this year, and in my experience they make a nice real time OS. The device is being referred to by some as the BlackPad and will be powered by chips from Marvell Technology Group. RIM is looking to break into a market that already has plenty of stiff competition in the iPad, and a number of Android and Windows devices. RIM could really use a boost as the BlackBerry has lost market share to devices such as the iPhone. The device is said to have a 7 inch touch screen, Bluetooth, and one or two cameras.
