A serious bug that led to a series of fast-spreading worms on Twitter's website Tuesday had been fixed in August but was accidentally re-introduced.
The bug caused havoc until Twitter got it under control later on Tuesday morning. One of the worms sent out a blacked-out Twitter message to all the victim's followers. Another distributed Japanese pornography.

HP, others pledge $3 billion to Taiwan after China pact
Hewlett-Packard and other companies have together pledged to invest over NT$100 billion (US$3.2 billion) in Taiwan after the island signed a landmark trade agreement with China, boosting business ties.
The Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) was a landmark preferential trade document signed by representatives from China and Taiwan in June that paves the way to increased trade and broader protection for Taiwanese businesses in China.

Standard Java improvements due in phases
Java Platform, Standard Edition (SE) will be upgraded in separate releases in 2011 and 2012, with the platform getting capabilities for developer productivity, modularity, and dynamic languages.
The two-phase upgrade involves offering Java SE 7 next year and Java SE 8 the year afterward. Previous plans had called for bundling improvements of both releases in Java SE 7, which would have arrived in 2012. Oracle engineers, however, decided to put out releases in a phased approach rather than waiting for all of the planned improvements to be ready in two years.

Verizon: Droid X update to Froyo is ready
Verizon Wireless will push Android 2.2, or Froyo over the air to Motorola Droid X smartphones on Wednesday, though customers can now start updating to the new OS now on their own, the carrier said Tuesday.
Droid X users can start their own update by going to Menu>Settings>About Phone>System Updates, where Verizon has posted step-by-step instructions.

AMD announced on Tuesday inexpensive desktop microprocessors with up to six cores to put pricing pressure on rival Intel.
AMD's new chips include the fastest AMD Phenom II X6 1075T six-core processor, which is priced "under $250" for 1,000 units, AMD said. AMD also introduced a range of dual-core and quad-core Athlon II and Phenom II desktop microprocessors priced between $76 and $185.

SAP moves an OnDemand service to Amazon
SAP has migrated its online service for reporting carbon emissions over to an Amazon cloud platform, the company announced Monday.
The newly launched version 5.0 of the company's SAP Carbon Impact OnDemand is the first to run on Amazon, said Vishal Sikka, who is SAP's executive board member for technology and innovation. "That gives us a tremendous benefit of low-cost elastic performance and scalability," he said. Customers will work directly with SAP, rather than Amazon.
