5 Billion Wireless Subscriptions Worldwide, Coming Right Up!
Five billion. That's a lot of faces, a lot of eyes, and a lot of ears. It's also a lot of humans talking amongst one another, and according to a new iSuppli report, that's the number of wireless subscriptions that our planet is home to. Almost, anyway. The report estimates that the grand total of wireless subscriptions in the world will surpass the 5 billion mark this month, which equals nearly 75% of the world's population. Imagine that. 3 in 4 people, with a cell phone. It's also too crazy to believe. Dr.

Peek 9 Is 9x Faster Than Pronto, More Flexible Than Ever
Early on, the Peek was an email-exclusive handheld device. The selling point was its simplicity, as it only did email and nothing more. It was simple in every respect. Somehow, Peek has now broaden their horizons by offering the Peek 9, which is said to be 9 times faster than the Peek Pronto and capable of many, many more tasks. Over the years, Peek's devices have slowly but surely added features rather than simply refining the original formula. The guess was that some people wanted a simple way to check their

And that's exactly what they're doing. This week Cisco has revealed an all-new UltraHD

HTC Taps into Tegra 2, Android for Upcoming Tablet
Steve Jobs and the rest of his Cupertino cohorts did two things when they released the iPad under  Apple's unofficial planned obsolescence model -- you know, the one where Apple leaves off obvious features like a USB port, HDMI connectivity, upgradeable storage, and everything else you'd find on even the most thinly spec'd netbook. First, they left themselves an upgrade path for a second generation iPad, one that will undoubtedly address some, but not all, of the original iPad's shortcomings. And secondly,

T-Mo Sued Over Medical Marijuana Related Short Code Ban
T-Mobile has been sued by mobile marketing firm EZ Texting, one of those firms that provides those short code ad campaigns (text phrase x to number y). EZ Texting alleges that T-Mobile blocked EZ Texting from access to their network because of a client, weedmaps.com (AKA legalmarijuanadispensary.com), whose site provides information on medical marijuana. It should be noted that weedmaps.com, as the suit states, works with those people who live in states where medical marijuana is legal and is thus itself legal.

Pentax Hits At Prosumers With K-5 DSLR Camera

The "mirrorless" camera war seems to be the most heated right now, but the DSLR war is the one that will never stop in all likelihood. Pentax has arrived to the party swinging with their new K-5 Digital SLR, aimed at advanced amateur photographers. The prosumer DSLR has a 16.3MP CMOS sensor, up to 7FPS fast shooting, an ISO range of 80 to 12800 (expandable to 51200) and widescreen 1080p video capture abilities.

There's also a rare 3.5mm microphone jack, an 11 point SAFOX IX+ autofocus system with dedicated AF assist lamp and light wavelength sensor, native support for both PENTAX PEF and Adobe DNG 14 bit RAW files, improved in-camera HDR image capture, SDXC support, and a fully weather-sealed and coldproof design. In keeping with the times, Pentax has also included a 3" LCD, a durable magnesium alloy that surrounds a rugged stainless steel chassis, 77 segment metering system, body-based Shake Reduction (SR) stabilization, HDMI output, built-in electronic level with tilt scale display in LCD panel, and a rather beefy design.

The PENTAX K-5 digital SLR will ship in October 2010 as a body kit only for $1,599.95 USD or as a lens kit with the 18-55mm WR for $1,749.95 USD, which puts it well above the competition in terms of price. New AMD Hex-Core CPU Price Per Performance Champion
AMD has a new Hex-Core CPU in town now, and It's proving to be a mighty contender for the Price Per Performance Crown.
BMR has a review up on it.
BTW,...in the review, he states that *if* "you want to run an NVIDIA SLI setup (which, due to some weird polittical wrangling between AMD and NVIDIA, you cannot now and probably never will be able to do)"
But I have a SLI enabled AM3 board saved in my NewEgg wishlists that does SLI. It's the ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard.
Maybe I missed something in his reasoning. This new AMD x6-1075T is posting nice performance numbers and it's priced even better than the x6-1090T while almost matching it's performance. (It's also $50.00 cheaper than the 1090T)

Cisco's Flip Video UltraHD And MinoHD Get Revised

It didn't take long for companies like HP, Sony and Toshiba to catch on, and now Flip Video is being forced by others to continually innovate if they wish to maintain their edge in the world of pocket camcorders.

And that's exactly what they're doing. This week Cisco has revealed an all-new UltraHD and MinoHD, both of which have HD video capture capabilities, hardware-based image stabilization, expanded product personalization options, and more ways to share video using pre-loaded FlipShare software. The company also revealed Designed For Flip, a new program that will usher in a wider range of accessories (everything from wide angle lenses and external microphones to battery chargers and a portable projector) in the months to come.

These new units can capture video at 720p (60fps), and the new line is available now in the U.S. starting at $149.99. Not a bad time to upgrade!

New UltraHD Family

Sony May Look To Merge PSP With Cell Phone

A Playstation on your cell phone?  The notion might not be so far-fetched. The latest news out of the Japanese electronics and gaming giant is that it's "considering developing a cellphone-game gear hybrid" on Sony Ericsson phones.

Once the superpower in portable music - the Walkman, launched about 30 years ago, was revolutionary and became one of the best-known brands of its time. Anyone who didn't own a Walkman owned a knockoff. The Discman, which, as it sounds, played compact discs wasn't as huge a hit, but primarily because it wasn't as huge a change as the Walkman was and because, after all, it was only recently that you could make your own CDs. Who didn't listen to a mix tape at some point or another in their Walkman?

Then came the iPod and then the iPhone, and Sony's trailed Apple ever since. Did you know Sony had a Walkman Phone?

Reuters reported that the Nikkei business daily in Japan said Sony planned to start getting its team together on the project as soon as next month.

Sony PSP Phone Concept

Sony gaming phone concept draft...
Click for high res.

The new device would be something of a hybrid between the Sony Ericcson phones and the popular
PSP, Sony's portable gaming system.

With Electronic Arts (Sims, Tetris and Tiger Woods PGA Tour) and Square Enix (Crystal Defenders and Song Summoner), among others, starting to offer gaming software for Apple products, Sony and other portable game makers see a big ol' bullseye on their doors and are trying to avoid falling to the iPhone/iPod juggernaut.

Sony, Reuters said, refused comment.

This isn't the first time the idea has made the rounds of the rumor mill. Back in 2007, Latest-Mobile carried a report saying rumors of a PSPhone had been both confirmed and denied.  Interestingly, Sony Ericsson has had a patent in place for some time now.  It makes perfect sense to us actually.  Just bring it.

[ asus p5q realtek audio ] line-in recording distortions in audio.
Hello friends,

**PREPARATIONS:

I updated my bios and installed the latest Realtek audio sound drivers from asus.com.

I still have the files.

**SPECS overview

Asus p5q
Intel core 2 duo
Corsair 2GB DDR2 SDRAM
Intel ssd 40gig + Sata 160gig
8800 GTS

I have Direct X9
Windows XP service Pack 3
Realtek on-board audio HD.

**PROBLEM:

I am using on-board audio, and I have an audio source (a DJ mixer with good sound, tested and it works) that plugs in to the line-in blue jack. (I've tried the mic jack also and the ones on the front panel, all give the same effect)

the sound is audible, but its muffled and distorted. its volume level varies based on the other audio sources that are being played in windows, IE: a youtube video or winamp. volume spikes and raises when other audio sources play. ( leads to suspect audio driver or OS issue )

so basicall; my line-in audio quality is dependent on whatever other audio source is playing in the stereo mix, IE Winamp, WMP 11, or anything that I can hear. It goes up when I play something, and diminishes to a faint murmur the moment I stop.

**DESIRED OUTCOME

I just want my line-in source to play clearly in the windows environment, so I can record it with audacity.
If I cant fix this I'll have to buy a sound card,

please help, I'm trying to record a mix-tape :bounce:
