Most Hacking Victims Blame Themselves
According to a new survey by Symantec, most people that fall victim to hackers blame themselves. Researchers found that 65 percent of Internet users worldwide have already been victims. In the U.S., it's 73 percent, but things are worse in China (83 percent), Brazil (76 percent) and India (also 76 percent). Those results stood out to Norton Internet Safety Advocate Marian Merritt, who tracks this type of data for a living. "What we were really surprised by was, first of all, how common it was that people are being victimized by cybercrime," she said. Comments

The American Civil Liberties Union, the New York Civil Liberties Union and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) today filed a lawsuit challenging the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) policy permitting border agents to search, copy and detain travelers' electronic devices at the border without reasonable suspicion. DHS asserts the right to look though the contents of a traveler's electronic devices – including laptops, cameras and cell phones – and to keep the devices or copy the contents in order to continue searching them once the traveler has been allowed to enter the U.S., regardless of whether the traveler is suspected of any wrongdoing. NSA: U.S. Has a Duty to Secure the Internet
The NSA says the U.S. has a responsibility to secure the internet from internal and external attackers. The NSA? Seriously? Aren't they the agency that makes people go "poof." In a speech at the Gov 2.0 Summit here, Alexander said that it is incumbent upon the U.S. government to play a major role in making both the public Internet and private, classified networks more secure and resilient to attack. "We made the Internet and it seems to me that we ought to be the first folks to get out there and protect it," Alexander said. "The challenge before us is large and daunting. But we have an obligation to meet it head-on." Comments

According to these reports, authorities in fourteen countries have conducted raids on an untold number of file sharing sites, including The Pirate Bay. The news reports go on to say that the site hosting Wikileaks has also been taken down although the authorities claim they were not the target of the raids. Odd, I didn't we said this would happen over a week or so ago. Police in up to 14 countries around Europe have coordinated to carry out raids against suspected file-sharing servers this morning. Locations in The Netherlands, Czech Republic and Hungary were targeted but Sweden appears to have borne the brunt of the action. Seven locations including PRQ, which hosts WikiLeaks, have been raided. Comments

HP Suing Former CEO Mark Hurd
Now that was fast! Wow, I guess HP don't mess around when it comes to lawsuits. "Despite being paid millions of dollars in cash, stock and stock options in exchange for Hurd's agreements to protect HP's trade secrets and confidential information during his employment and following his departure from his positions at HP as Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, and President, HP is informed and believes and thereon alleges that Hurd has put HP's most valuable trade secrets and confidential information in peril. AMD Demonstrating Fusion APU at IFA 2010
John Taylor AMD's director of Fusion Marketing, attending the 2010 IFA Consumer Electronics show in Berlin, says the company is demonstrating the low power AMD Fusion APU in systems that are expected to ship in Q1 2011. Here is the gist of the blog post: Before we talk power, let's remember the basics of what AMD is packing into this mighty little package: Dual low-power CPU cores codenamed "Bobcat", providing mainstream CPU performance in less than one-half the die area and a fraction of the power. DirectX11-capable GPU cores derived from the award-winning AMD Radeon™ discrete GPU. This is the GPU technology on which AMD built its position as the world leader and #1 market share for discrete GPUs. A new Unified Video Decoder (UVD) on-die in the APU. AMD plans to ramp production here in 2010, with systems available in early 2011. So here at IFA 2010, we're both demonstrating the capabilities of low-power AMD Fusion APUs, and providing a little more information on the individual products. "Brazos" is the codename for the notebook, netbook and desktop platforms that will be built from the APU. But the APU itself comes in two flavors based on performance and (low) power draw: An 18-watt TDP APU codenamed "Zacate" for ultrathin, mainstream, and value notebooks as well as desktops and all-in-ones. And a 9-watt APU codenamed "Ontario" for netbooks and small form factor desktops and devices. Both low-power APU versions feature two "Bobcat" x86 cores and fully support DirectX11, DirectCompute (Microsoft programming interface for GPU computing) and OpenCL (cross-platform programming interface standard for multi-core x86 and accelerated GPU computing). Both also include UVD dedicated hardware acceleration for HD video including 1080p resolutions. Comments
