Asus ships N series notebooks with Blu-ray, Nvidia Optimus
As reported earlier this year, Asus and Bang & Olufsen ICEpower have begun serving up two new laptops. Aimed at the premium market, the N line supposedly features superior audio quality, developed by the company's "Golden Ear" team. "Realising that people spend up to a third of their day using multimedia devices of some description and that most laptops fall short in delivering high-quality audio, Asus went back to the drawing board."

New Xbox 360 uses 45nm chip with combined CPU, GPU
Months after launching the revamped Xbox 360, Microsoft has detailed the machine's new processor and graphics configuration. The "slim" 360 uses a 45nm SoC called "Vejle" that crams a CPU and GPU onto one piece of silicon. It has 372m transistors, is 50% smaller and draws 60% less power than the original 360's 90nm CPU/GPU combo.

AMD details upcoming Bobcat and Bulldozer architectures
Speaking at Stanford University's Hot Chips conference this week, AMD offered up some new details about their most significant processor redesign since the K8 architecture in 2003, which made Athlon 64 processors favorites among enthusiasts. Specifically, the company talked about two x86 processor cores aimed at different ends of the market: Bobcat, which will be a low-power core aimed at netbooks, tablets and other portable devices where it will compete with Intel's Atom, and Bulldozer which will be used in multiple-core server and desktop chips due out next year.
