
MSI readies liquid-cooled GTX 480 HydroGen, more
MSI is supposedly preparing to unleash three new Nvidia graphics cards designed for performance junkies. Word of the GTX 460 Hawk first surfaced a couple weeks ago and the custom board is expected to ship with the Twin Frozr II cooler, making it a breeze to overclock. Early reports say it will ship this month with 1GB of VRAM and a standard 675MHz clock speed, but that can easily be pushed to 800MHz and even up to 1GHz with some voltage tweaks.

Dragon Age II coming March 8, new trailer released
BioWare has provided a solid release date for its upcoming sequel to 2009's gritty fantasy RPG, Dragon Age: Origins. PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Dragon Age II will land in US stores on March 8, 2011. Europeans will have to wait another three days for a March 11 launch. Of course, if you have $50 burning a hole in your pocket, you can preorder the game online -- for PC anyway, it's $60 on consoles.

RIAA, NAB want mandatory FM radio in mobile electronics
Music labels and broadcasters have been at odds for years over whether the FM radio industry should pay performance rights to artists and labels when a song is played on air. Unlike Internet and satellite services, FM radio only pays songwriters under the current framework, and they believe they're exempt from the fees because they provide a valuable promotional tool.

Sony preps 320GB PS3 for September, 160GB now available
Hoping to steal the spotlight back from Microsoft's updated Xbox 360, Sony unveiled two new PlayStation 3 models during Gamescom today. One of the packages seems to be a regular old PS3 Slim with 160GB of storage instead of 120GB, and it's already available online with the same $300 price tag. The second a $400 bundle that's coming September 19 and includes a 320GB PS3, the Move motion controller and Eye camera, as well as a copy of Sports Champion and a demo disc.

Verizon hits near 1Gbps speeds over existing FiOS network
Verizon announced it has completed a real-world field test of its fiber-optic FiOS network in which it pumped data at nearly 1Gbps speeds to an existing business customer subscribed to their gigabit passive optical network (GPON). The test involved running a separate fiber connection and gauging its speed using a local server as well as a server that was 400 miles away. Verizon claims the link topped at a 925Mbps to the local server and 800Mbps to the remote server.

Qualcomm unveils 1.5GHz dual-core chip for smartphones
Even though they just started shipping 1.2Ghz processors in June, and we have yet to see those in a mobile phone, Qualcomm has announced it will ship the third iteration of its popular Snapdragon chip by the end of this year. The new QSD8672 should deliver a significant upgrade from the first generation Snapdragon found in such phones as the Nexus One and EVO 4G, using a smaller 45nm manufacturing process and featuring two cores operating at up to 1.5 GHz.
